Aria’s P.O.V

I was soon infront of the Rembrant Company front door. Walking inside I was a bit amazed at its size and various contents.

‘So this is the Rembrant Company… This place is big…’ I thought as I walked towards the counter.

“Welcome” A employee greeted me.

[Hi, Sorry for not talking, but I came to talk about the request at the guild, Is Mr.Rembrant here?] I asked as he sweat dropped at my method of communicating, but quickly composed himself when I mentioned the request.

“Oh, the Ruby Eyes! Please wait a bit.” He told me as I nodded.

“Moris! There’s an adventure here!” The employee called out as an butler soon came out the doors.

“Thank you for taking on the request. I will call for the Master, so please wait in the drawing room.” The butler named Moris told me as I nodded and followed where he leading me.

When I passed him to enter the room, I could feel that he definitely wasn’t a regular servant. Especially with so much experience and bloodlust hidden under his eyes.

‘I’ll definitely need to stay on my toes.’ I thought as I walked into the room.

The room looked very nice making my gaze wonder as I took in the details to a tea just in case I needed to make a escape or not.

‘They said he’s a reasonable man, so hopefully things progress smothly.’ I thought.

“Thank you for waiting. Your Aria… I am correct? I looked at your letter of introduction. I am Patrick Rembrant, the Rembrant Company president.” The man who just came in introduced himself.

‘Heh, he’s more younger than I thought… also he looks more like a nobleman then a merchant.’ I thought.

[Hello Mr.Rembrant, It’s nice to meet you. I’m terribly sorry for not being able to speak to you, but I have certain circumstances that won’t allow me so I hope you have no problems with this.] I told him as he sweat dropped.

“…Okay, I understand.” He said as I nodded and we both too a seat opposite of eat other with him sitting in the chair while I on the couch.

“So, when did you arrive here, Aria?” Mr.Rembrant asked me as Moris placed some tea on the table.

[I arrived in this place yesterday, from all the way to Zetsuya which is about 3 towns away.] I responded.

“I see, please forgive me, while I’ve remembered most the adventurers that could take on a Rank S Quest, I couldn’t seem to recall your name.” He said as I nodded

‘That means he has a multitude of connections… This guy seems like one of those shady types…’I thought.

[Actually, this request was changed from a rank S to a special request.] I told him.

“Oh, it changed rank? Well I don’t particularly mind that…” He replied.

[Also there’s something else I would like you to understand.] I told him.

“…Go on.” He told me as I pulled out my card and handed it to him. When he looked at the details of it his eyes widen in shock.

[I just recently registered with the guild and I’m only Level 900 Rank E. This will also be the first request I have taken, so I hope you’ll understand that. Also I’m thinking of becoming a merchant and starting my own company some day.] I told him.

“It would seem that you wish to form connections with my company, but don’t understand anything. I’m sorry, but this conversation is over. It would be better for you to look into Ruby Eyes instead of my company.” He told me narrowing his eyes at me as I just sat on the couch unfazed by such a gaze.

‘Heh, understanding man they said.’ I thought.

[I see, but it may be better if I go into details. Yes, having a good relationship with you would greatly benefit me as a merchant. But I could actually earn those benefits by myself if I choose too. The letter I brought from the guild shouldn’t have any mistakes in it. The only reason I told you about my level and experience was so that you could understand that I may have no experience with dealing with business here or adventurering, but I am not a pushover as well so that you won’t be shocked or surprised about learning about such later on.] I told him with a blank look and straight face under my mask.

“…Indeed, Even if you aren’t that good at business or even combat. You must have another way to obtaining the eyes, otherwise you wouldn’t have said all that.” He said sitting back down in his chair.

‘Hm, Thank Father that he taught what I needed to survive.’ I thought.

“But that’s assuming you are capable of accomplishing the task. I’ll assume they’ll be some intermediaries, in which I would like to know how long it will take you to deliver the eyes..” He said.

[There’s no need for any of that.] I told him.

“Hum? What do you mean?” He asked interested as I reached into my inventory and pulled out one of the eyes laying it on the table.

[That is because I already have what you requested. You can confirm it yourself.] I told him as they looked at the eyes jn shock.

“What?! Moris!” Rembrant said.

“Right away.” Moris responded as he began to check it out.

“I’m amazed… it is genuine. Moreover it’s not damaged at all in fact, it’s still soft… It couldn’t have been longer than a day since it was removed.” Moris informed.

“I’d like to apologize for doubting you. It’s just that this is a valuable material.” He said as I just shrugged.

‘He was too suspicious as if he was thinking this was trick or a play. I wonder what he was expecting from this.’ I thought.

“Please forgive me.” He said.

[Don’t worry about it. Though if you could tell me, what do you need the eyes for?] I asked.

“I suppose it is only natural that an adventurer would wish to know why they are collecting valuable materials. Consider this my way of apologizing to you, Moris.” Patrick said.

“Yes, We are collecting the eyes to use them in producing a special medicine.,”Morid told me.

[Hm? I’ve never heard of it being used in such a way. What is this medicine you speak of?] I asked curiously.

“Ambrosia, it’s a potion that can cure anything. My wife and daughters are inflicted with a curse disease and this is the only way to cure them.” He explained making me raise a brow.

[Could you tell me just what this disease is? I’m not really from around here so, I’m not really familiar with alot of things.] I told him.

“This isn’t anything a normal person would need to worry about.” Patrick responded.

“Curse disease is a disease caused by a curse casted by a shaman through a ceremony. So you could say it’s a kind of curse. The only way to cure it is to use a special medicine or to have the caster dispell it.” Moris explained making me frown under my mask.

‘So it’s something I can’t use Sakai or Sky Dragon Slayer Magic on… Poison Dragon Slayer Magic won’t work either since no fluids is involved… What a troublesome thing.’ I thought.

“Somtimes the caster is unable to dispell it or it simply can’t be dispelled once casted.” Moris informed.

‘Really troublesome…’I thought.

“The curse casted upon the Madam and young Mistresses is Level 8, only Ambrosia can actually heal them, thr best any other medicine can do is temporarily alleviate the symptoms. However, creating Ambrosia requires the eyes of a Ruby Eyes.” Moris explained more.

“When we learned that nothing short of Ambrosia could heal it, we immediately issued a request at the guild. But all we’ve had were adventurers that seek to interfere and swindlers. In these 3 months we’ve only managed to obtain one eye other than this one.” He said glancing at the one I had on the table.

[Have you also tried getting the caster to dispell it?] I asked.

“Naturally we captured him for that, but he refused to tell us anything other than the level to the very end.” He said making me narrow my eyes a bit.

‘So they tortured him, It’s understandable, but to think they killed him so quickly if he did something so horrendous.’ I thought as Father taught me many things even things that others may deem improper for a child.

[Any ideas on his motive?] I asked him.

“A company of this size is guaranteed to have enemies, regardless of how you conduct business.” He said making me nod my head in understanding.

“However targeting the Madam and Young Mistresses is simply cowardly!” Moris said.

“While I made sure to protect myself, my carelessness ended up leaving my wife and daughters being targeted instead….Lately they’ve begun wishing for their own deaths. The situation is truly hopeless… But we’ve finally been able to make progress.” Patrick said making me raise a brow.

[Progress?] I asked.

“Making enough medicine for 1 person requires 2 eyes. We’ve already secured the other materials needed. With this we can at least save one of them.” He said as I nodded.

[What about the actual fabrication method? You have it?] I asked.

“We’ve already know how it’s made, now we just need an Alchemist of at least level 80 to create it. While we will be putting up a request and teaching an Alchemist how to create Ambrosia, you would normally demand payment from anyone wishing to learn the method.” Moris explained.

‘Hm I could understand that with the knowledge of such a thing. The person could be considered a very expensive healer when it comes to things like this.’ I thought.

‘I would like to learn such a thing for myself, but I would like to not expose to much of my abilities. The Alkeys back home know how to do Alchemy, but there’s no way they would be able to keep they’re forms up the whole time, and with Mio… I’m worried about the materials.’ I thought.

It was after thought I rembered something about this morning.

[I have request and way to help if you would like to hear it, Mr.Rembrant.] I said.

“Hm? Well…”He trailed.

[Let me explain, I would like to watch when it is made. I also have a friend named Hazal who is a level 114 Alchemy Meister. I could just ask him to assist in this and you won’t have to wait very long.] I told him.

“Oh! That would be perfect!” He said as I nodded and reached into my inventory.

[Since everything is now settled, as per the request I have brought all 6 eyes. So Request completed, right?] I said as they stared at me in shock as I laid 4 other eyes out on the table.

I was then surprised and sweat dropped as the doors behind me slammed open and the place erupted in to a place of tears of relief and joy.

I stood away from the group as I watched them with a amused gaze.

‘His workers sure do love him…’ I thought as Patrick came up towards me.

“Sorry about the commotion. I’ve signed the receipt. We’ll deal with processing the materials later.” He said as I nodded.

[That’s fine, I’ll be going off to the merchants guild to register now.] I told him.

“I see. I wish you luck and hope you pass the exam. After you pass,, I will welcome you as a fellow merchant.” He told me as I nodded.

[Very well that will be appreciated, I hope we get along from now on, Mr.Rembrant] I responded as I started to walk out.

‘So there’s a test. This is going to be amusing.’ I thought smiling.

-Time Skip-

Walking into the Merchants Guild, unlike the Adventurers Guild it was basically empty with only a beautiful receptionist being in sight.

“Welcome, How may I help… you?” She asked as she laid her eyes upon me as I walked to stand infront of the counter.

[Hello, I’m sorry for not speaking, but do you know how to read?] I questioned.

“Y-Yes I can read.” She responded with a small blush as I nodded.

[Great, I am here to join the Merchants Guild.] I told her.

“You wish to… join? You appear to be a high-class adventurer though. Did someone refer you to us?” She asked as I shook my head.

[No, I’m just an regular adventurer. I have come across some unusual and rare goods and I wish to sell them myself.] I told her.

“Goods? We would be willing to buy information about the route for them from you.” She said as I shook my head in disagreement.

[No thank you, I wish to sell them myself.] I told her.

“…Pardon me for saying this, but a masked woman who only communicates through writing and has only recently become a merchant without a referral would have a hard time in this business where trust is very important.” She said making me give a small nod in understanding.

‘She’s worried that I won’t be able to work due to my current appearance. She’s a really nice person.’ I thought.

[I thank you for your concern, but it’s okay. I have a pair of attendants. So in worst case scenario, I’ll just have to find a way of doing things without revealing myself.] I replied.

“Is that so? Forgive me for saying what I did then. In that case, I will explain the conditions for joining our guild. In order to become a member, you must pass 2 exams. If you can’t then you won’t be able to join.” She explained.

[I see, Is there any specific time for these exams?] I asked.

“The exams are always available to be taken, but larger companies tend to have all examines take the exam at a specific time, so there are periods when most of the exams taken.” She explained.

‘Sounds alot like Final exams.’ I thought.

“First is the written exam. Most of the questions are based on the contents of these textbooks we sell, so you can buy and study in advance. After passing the written exam, you move on to the practical exam, where you must gather materials. It doesn’t matter how much you know if you have nothing to sell” She told me.

“There are simple tasks like obtaining an empty potion bottle, but you could also be unfortunate and have to get a really hard material to pass. One of the worst is a howl fang which requires a really strong adventurer to get.” She informed.

“That said, it’s simple enough if you have connections, which will be necessary for a merchant. Also luck plays a part in it as well, as you may sometimes need to overcome bad luck!” She said.

[Understood.]I responded.

‘I feel that she’s getting off track with the explanation, but it’s fine for now.’ I thought.

“Upon passing those exams, you just need to prove your economic strength by paying the exam fee, a deposit, and the yearly guild fee. You’ll need to have money to spare if you wish to be a merchant after all.” She explained more.

“By the way, you can take the the exam as many times as you want, but after failing, you’ll need to wait half a year before retrying. Just use that time to study some more! Naturally you’ll need to pay the exam fee each time.” She finished.

‘Hm, so failing it will make me have to wait half a year before doing it again. Heh, this is certainly more risky then regular tests though Father’s is still the most scariest.’ I thought rembering the punishment I would have to endure if I didn’t pass his tests.

I felt a slight chill run up spine as I shook it off.

‘Bad, but good times.’ I thought.

[May I see the text book please?] I asked.

“Of course, That’ll be 2 gold coins.” She told me making me raise brow at the price.

“The paper used to make these books is very valuable afterall.” She told me as I sighed.

‘It does look better than the paper that was at the guild.’ I thought.

“Um… It’s not a problem if you can’t afford this. Many people work at a company while they study.” She told me.

‘Hm basically an internship or apprentice, that’s good.’ I thought.

[No it’s fine, I’ll buy it. I was thinking of something else.] I told her surprising her.

“Eh?! You’re going to buy it?!” She asked as I nodded and placed the payment on the counter as she nodded and handed me the textbook.

‘Money isn’t really a problem at the moment. Especially since I’ll be making some income and getting some rewards later.’ I thought as I walked over to the lobby in the guild and decided to check out the contents of the textbook.

Flipping through and skimming the information of the pages I soon closed the book.

‘You have to be kidding me, the exam is on this?!’
