3rd person pov

dinner at the house was normal as always. manon and dani were fighting over the last tortilla chip and lara and yoonchae were whispering to each other while megan and sophia chimed in whenever necessary. suddenly, lara tapped her spoon against her glass.

“y’know, girls, what i said at breakfast this morning?”

each girl gave a nod or a tired ‘yes!’. a/n hahah get the reference?

“well, about that…” lara paused for dramatic effect. “megan, it’s always been you.” lara’s eyes lowered nervously as she gripped yoonchae’s wrist for support. “ever since we debuted, i couldn’t help but fall in love with you. every time you laugh, i wish it was me who made you laugh. every time you cry, i want to kill the person who made you cry. as your bandmate, i don’t care how messy this gets and i’ll fight for us.” her voice wavered, but she kept going.

“i was tired of pretending it didn’t bother me when you looked at someone else the way i wished you’d look at me. i kept telling myself it was nothing. that i was being dramatic. that i just admired you.”

she let out a shaky laugh.

“but it wasn’t nothing.”

her fingers tightened slightly around yoonchae’s wrist before she let go.

“ever since we debuted, i noticed everything about you. the way you practiced until your knees hurt and still said you were fine. the way you got quiet before big performances. the way you pretended you didn’t care when you actually cared the most.”

she swallowed.

“and every time you smiled at me, i wondered if i was imagining it. if i was reading into things that weren’t there.” her eyes flickered down to the table for a second.

“i tried to move on. i really did. i told myself it wasn’t fair to feel like this when… things were complicated. but i couldn’t. because no matter how hard i tried, you were always the person i looked for first in every room.” her voice softened, almost steady now.

“i didn’t want to keep being the joke. the loud one. the one who laughs everything off. i didn’t want to keep acting like it didn’t hurt when it did.”

she finally met megan’s eyes fully.

“i didn’t expect anything from you. i just didn’t want you to think i was indifferent. i wasn’t. i never was. if there was even the slightest chance that you ever looked at me and felt something too… i needed to know i hadn’t been the only one standing still this whole time. so… megan, ” lara paused.

“will you go out on a date with me?”

megan froze as her fork clattered onto her plate. “lara–”

“if not, that’s totally okay and i’m really sorry if i made this awkward,” lara crammed words into her throat, gut clenching from fear.

megan paused. “okay,” she decided boldly. “i’ll go on a date with you.”

dani and manon exchanged a glance. “i’m not hungry,” dani said coldly. “i’ll be in my room if you need me.” after dani left, the table was silent.

“i’ll… go check on her,” lara said awkwardly and backed away from the table as if it had bitten her.

the second the door shut behind lara, manon pounced on megan. “why the actual fuck did you just agree to go on a date with lara?” she demanded, face contorted by anger.

megan frowned. “why not? she likes me, so why don’t i give her a chance?”

at that, yoonchae stood up. “megan… what about dani?”

megan blinked. “what about dani?”

“you fucking kissed her and you ask what yoonchae means?” sophia shouted. “you can’t just kiss her and leave for lara!”

manon nodded, and megan swore there was steam coming out of her ears. “you can’t do that to dani. it isn’t fair, not when she’s loved you since dream academy.”

megan chuckled awkwardly. “well, yeah, i loved her too during dream academy, you know? it was platonic. but what lara said, nah, that’s true love.”

manon pinned her gaze against megan. “fine,” she replied. “but don’t come crying to any of us when you find out lara doesn’t actually like you.”

“good,” megan spat. “go fuck yourself.”

manon and sophia abruptly stood and left, and the door screeched on its hinges.

“well,” megan said lightly to yoonchae, “that was… something.”

yoonchae didn’t so much as look at her. “lara doesn’t actually like you, megan. i found her diary. she’s upset that manon rejected her a while ago and has been trying to get revenge. and she’s doing that by trying to make manon jealous. believe me if you want, but don’t come crawling back to dani if lara breaks your heart. you already broke dani’s.”
