Chapter 14
Sasha stirred in her sleep, her snoring coming to a cease as she slowly opened her eyes. She looked around, and her eyes widened once she realized it was the next morning and her parents were most likely on their way home.
“Lux, wake up” she whispered, shaking her gently out of her sleep.
“Mhh, what?”
Lux rubbed her eyes, next opening them as she attempted to wake herself up.
“We have to clean up before my parents get here” Sasha said raising from the bed.
She began to search for something to throw on, and Lux still didn’t move as she just watched her instead. She was still trying to wake up fully, however she wasn’t a morning person and it was currently 8am.
“Ughhh do we have to? Can’t we just blackmail Quan to do it?” Lux groaned finally sitting up.
“No, we can’t” Sasha chuckled.
Lux rolled her eyes and went to stand up. Sasha opened her room door, however the sound of her parents coming in the front door caused her to close it back quickly.
“They’re here” Sasha freaked, her eyes widened.
“Damn this early?” Lux asked, perplexed.
Checkout time at a hotel wasn’t until around 11am, so she wasn’t sure as to why Sasha’s parents decided to return home so early. Still, she knew Sasha would be in deep shit now and this would probably be her last day seeing day light.
“Sasha!” Her mother yelled from downstairs, and immediately her heart pounded against her chest.
“What do I do?”
“Umm, go downstairs” Lux shrugged, “I’ll clean up in here just incase they come upstairs”
Sasha twisted her mouth, and although she didn’t want to go downstairs she knew she had to. She cursed herself for falling asleep and never cleaning up, however after drinking so much and then spending half of the night exploring her sexuality, she was quite frankly tired.
She cracked open her door, and reluctantly headed to the bottom of the steps. Her eyes widened again at the sight of the mess, and at that point she wanted to die. Her parents were clearly fuming, glaring around at the half filled cups with liquor, beer cans sprawled around, and a bunch of other trash. The weed smell had gone, but the multiple pack of tobacco wrappers definitely gave it away.
“Have you lost your mind? You must’ve!” Joseph shouted, his finger pointing towards her.
“I~”
“Me and your mother go away for one night, and you throw a party?! These trifling neighborhood kids in my house, smoking and drinking. It’ll be a cold day in hell before you’re allowed to even leave this house. I’m taking you out of that school and your mother will home school you!”
“No!” Sasha shouted, “You can’t!”
“I can do whatever the hell I wan’t!” Joseph continued to shout, “Including, taking away the very thing that’s been having you smell your ass! That school and that fast as lil girl”
“Why would you do this Sasha?” Myda asked, shaking her head at her daughter.
Sasha didn’t answer, instead just stood big eyed on the steps. Inside she was angry, however she knew it was her fault for even having the party. And while it was fun, she wasn’t sure if the consequences was worth it now that she was caught.
“It wasn’t her party, it was mine” Quan spoke, surprising them all as he emerged from the top of the steps.
Joseph narrowed his brows, and Myda squeezed the bridge of her nose and just walked away.
“What are you, trying to take up for your sister?” Joseph squinted his eyes.
“Nah” Quan shook his head, “It was my party, Lux and Sasha just got here. Sorry dad, I wanted to have a few of the guys over from the team and things got outta control”
Joseph gave his son a long look. Sasha just stood awkwardly in the quiet room, and was hoping her dad brought the lie even if it came with a price on Quan’s end.
“Whatever” Joseph just shook his head tiredly, “Come down here and clean this shit up. Sasha, you and Lux help him”
Sasha nodded, and turned back to her room while Quan headed downstairs.
“Come on, we have to help clean” Sasha shook her head frustrated, “Quan took the blame for it all”
“Smart move” Lux sucked her teeth, “He knows your dad isn’t going to punish him, and now he can demand that we get rid of the picture. I guess it’s all fair in war” she sighed.
“I don’t even care” Sasha chuckled, “My dad was gonna force me to be homeschooled”
“Well I’m glad that’s no longer an option” Lux smiled, pulling herself into Sasha, “Then I would never get to see you”
She titled her head up and kissed her and Sasha returned it. The night before flashed in her head as the two stood making out, and she couldn’t believe that she had waited til senior year to find out what she liked…no loved.
While at first she was nervous about accepting the fact that she liked girls, Lux had more than proven to her that she was indeed right.
And not just sexually, but emotionally too. Lux was like her best friend, and in a short time she had been more of a support system than anyone in her family.
“So, was you serious?” Sasha asked in between kisses, still not able to depart her lips even though she knew her parents would be calling her any second.
“About what?” Lux giggled, her teeth catching Sasha’s lip.
“Being my girlfriend” Sasha muttered.
Lux smiled, and took a step back, “I can be, but only if you’re ready. No pressure”
“No pressure” Sasha chuckled nervously.
A knock came at her door and Quan’s voice emerged.
“Ay, I know I took the blame for it but I ain’t tryna do this shit myself” he whispered through the door.
Sasha quickly opened the door, “Sorry bro”
“It’s cool, just grab a bag” he said passing them both a large black trash bag.
Sasha and Lux followed behind him, and got to work cleaning the downstairs and backyard. Myda and Joseph retreated to their room, and Sasha was glad for that as her dad was glaring at her as if he knew her dirty little secret.
“So, why’d you take the fall?” Sasha asked as her and Quan picked up the red cups from the backyard.
“I don’t know” he shrugged, “Figured I’d be nice for once”
“Let me guess, it comes with a price. You want Lux’s number again?” She chuckled.
“Nah” he laughed, “That’s all you apparently”
Sarah raised her brow, and Quan gave her a knowing look.
“She wasn’t the quietest last night, ohhhh Sasha” Quan mimicked Lux’s moans.
Sasha blushed and shook her head, “You don’t know what you’re talking about”
“If you say so…you know, if mom and dad find out they’ll probably fucking disown you”
“Funny, I was thinking the same thing about you selling drugs” Sasha scoffed.
“Yeah well, we should be even after this. No more blackmailing, cool?” He asked, “And don’t worry, I won’t tell mom and dad about your little girlfriend. As long as you don’t tell them about mine”
“You, have a girlfriend?” Sasha gave her brother a once over.
Granted, he was a handsome young man. And now that he had extra money, he was able to keep up with the other boys in the neighborhood. Sasha was surprised, but agreed to the terms of their peace treaty.
“Yeah” he smirked, “She’s on the cheer team”
“Cool… and deal”
Quan nodded, and the two continued to clean in silence. Lux sauntered out, and blocked the sun with her eyes as she dragged her trash bag behind her.
“Are we done yet?” She whined.
“Just about” Quan replied, “I bet ya’ll will think next time”
“Oh shut up, we know you had fun” Lux smirked.
Quan shrugged, next letting out a small laugh, “Still”
Sasha smirked, and she had to admit it was nice to actually be able to talk to her brother like a normal person. The three finished up the last little bit in the yard, next crowding back into the house. Quan and Sasha shared a look the moment they heard their parents arguing upstairs, and knew it wasn’t going to be a peaceful morning.
“This again?” Quan sucked his teeth, falling back onto the couch.
“Tell me about it” Sasha added.
The argument became louder as their bedroom door opened, and both of their feet stormed into the hallway.
“I’ve been with you since yesterday Myda, stop being dramatic. I told you I had to check up on some things at the office” Joesph shouted, frustrated.
“It is Saturday, Joseph. You don’t go in on the weekends, or do you think I’m stupid? Just because you spent one sorry night out of town with me doesn’t mean anything” Myda argued.
“I do now, we need the extra money. Or wait, are you helping feed a household of seven?” Joseph scoffed, “I didn’t think so”
“If you leave, don’t bother coming back!” Myda shouted, and the kids raised their brows, “I can take care of my kids alone”
A maniacal laugh erupted from Joseph’s mouth, with a condescending tone to it. He continued his way down the steps, and kept straight out the door. Myda followed behind him, only to stop once the door slammed in her face.
“You aiight, mom?” Quan asked, standing from his seat.
His immediate reaction was to console his mother, however Sasha just sat their awkwardly.
“Go” Lux whispered, gesturing her eyes towards Myda.
“No” Sasha shook her head.
She wasn’t the closest with her mom, and she wouldn’t pretend to be now that her parents were going through marriage drama.
“I’m okay” Myda assured her son through sniffles.
“Are you sure mom? He doesn’t get to talk to you that way” Quan insisted.
“Apparently he does” she shook her head, “Don’t worry about it, you two just finish up”
She retreated back upstairs, and the frustration on Quan’s face was clear. The older he became, the more he resented his father and the way he treated them all. He felt he was king of the household, and everything should run on his time because he was the bread winner.
Quan wanted nothing more but to step up and show that he could take care of his family, and that he didn’t need his father. None of them did. Sasha watched as he stormed up the steps, leaving her and Lux alone.
“Yikes” Lux let out once no one was in ears reach, “What do you think is going on with your dad?”
“I don’t know, and I don’t care” Sasha snickered.
“You should, that’s your mom” Lux told her.
“Do you care about your mom?” Sasha asked, giving her girlfriend a knowing look.
Lux twisted her mouth, and knew Sasha was sort of right since she never really felt bad for her mother’s misfortune either.
“Well, can I go back to sleep now? Lord knows once I get back home my mom’s snoring is going to keep me up” Lux asked as she stood to her feet.
“Yeah that’s fine, I’ll meet you up there” Sasha nodded.
Lux smirked tiredly, and happily made her way back up stairs. Sasha decided since she was up, she would give a call to someone she knew she needed to talk to.
“Hey” Chris said dryly once he answered the face time call.
“Hey” Sasha smiled uneasily.
Neither knew what to say, especially Sasha who had never been in this position before.
“So, about last night…Sorry about that. Zay and the guys can be stupid” she chuckled.
However Chris’s face was unamused.
“Zay and the guys, huh?” Chris raised his brow, “I see you’re making a lot of new friends”
“Yeah..they’re on the boys team. And the girls are on the team with Lux, well some of them”
“It’s funny…we used to laugh at the norms, and now you’re friends with them” he scoffed, referring to the name the best friends gave the popular people in high school. Sasha laughed at the fact that Chris still used that term.
“Don’t be dramatic” Sasha shook her head, “They’re cool. Oh, and one more thing”
“Lay it on me” Chris said sarcastically, not really caring for Sasha’s change even though he tried to be supportive.
“Me and Lux are together” she beamed, whispering into the screen.
Chris’s heart felt a tug, but not in a good way. He knew he couldn’t be upset because he never exactly revealed his crush that had been building for years, however he couldn’t help but feel a little salty over her news.
“Like as of right now, where is she?” He shrugged, pretending to not know what she meant.
“No, stupid. I mean like, a couple” Sasha playfully rolled her eyes, “But yeah, she is here. Upstairs sleep”
“And your parents are okay with all this?” He asked, his brow raised, “The party, the fact that you have a girlfriend now, the guys in your room, and oh don’t forget the smoking and drinking”
Sasha caught a tinge of jealously in his voice, and was hoping he wouldn’t feel that way. But she was wrong, and should’ve known since Chris was a loner just like her, however Sasha had grown butterflies and no longer only wanted a screen to talk to.
“Sheesh” Sasha folded her arms uncomfortably, “I thought you’d be happy for me. I’m finally doing all the things we used to talk about”
“You mean, make fun of” Chris snarled, moving his dreads out of his face stressfully, “We used to be happy to not have to do drugs to have fun ~”
“It’s just weed Chris, and honestly you should try it. It’ll help you relax a little” Sasha rolled her eyes.
“Fine, but when your parents find out ~”
“They won’t” Sasha insisted, definitely getting annoyed.
“You think your brothers won’t tell?”
“My brothers know, well Quan does and that’s all that matters. We’re cool now. Everything’s fine, actually more than fine. It’s great, for once its great and you’re…I don’t know..jealous!?”
Chris clinched his jaw, and even though he didn’t want to admit it he was slightly jealous. How did Sasha get a girlfriend before he did? And a smoking hot one at that.
On top of that, every time he called her it looked as if she was having more and more fun. If if wasn’t school, Sasha was the only thing Chris had. He too had family issues, and instead of dealing with them he locked hisself in his room most of the time. And now that he barely got to talk to Sasha, he was growing more annoyed by the day.
“No, I’m not jealous” he lied, “I just…think you’re changing”
“Good, that’s what I want” Sasha nodded.
“But why ~”
“What do you mean why? This is our senior year, you should be trying to change to. Get out, make friends, it isn’t that hard honestly” she shrugged.
“No thanks, I thought I already had one of those”
Sasha caved in her brows, and felt he was being very dramatic.
“So what, I’m supposed to not have a life because you don’t?” Sasha hissed.
She quickly felt bad for her choice of words, but knew it was too late as her sting already hit Chris.
“Chris ~”
“It’s fine. Enjoy your new life”
With that he hung up, and the sound of the call ending caused her to frown. And even though she knew she was harsh, she was tired of feeling bad for just trying to have fun. She thought he would be the first who would be happy for her, bit that wasn’t the case at all.
Deciding to just let him cool off, she headed back to her room and did just as Lux, fall back into a deep sleep. For once in her life she was having good luck, and she wouldn’t let anyone ruin it.
