Chapter 28
At exactly six in the evening, the entire house was filled with the soft sounds of chaos.
Yeahh, it’s Freen who battle at kitchen area.
The kitchen counter was crowded with ingredients she had taken out earlier, vegetables spread everywhere without proper arrangement and packets of nuggets half opened beside the cutting board while she stood there still thinking about “mommy spaghetti”.
Meanwhile, in the living room, the loud giggles of Fastian and Fahnareeh echoed nonstop as the two siblings played together on the carpet with their toys scattered around them carelessly.
Fastian was busy making dinosaur growling sounds while crashing toy cars into each other dramatically, while Fahnareeh sat beside him holding a plush rabbit as she continuously argued with her brother over something completely unimportant.
Inside the kitchen, Freen let out a long breath before picking up the small sausages one by one.
She carefully slicing the ends into tiny legs to create the octopus shapes Becky always made for the triplets.
Even while cutting them, she could already imagine how picky the children would become if the food did not resemble what they were used to.
“Should I just call Becky and ask her directly what ingredients she normally puts inside the spaghetti?” Freen mumbled quietly to herself while staring suspiciously at the vegetables in front of her as though they had personally offended her.
“It’s better than cooking something completely wrong and having both of them refuse to eat later.”
The thought alone already exhausted her.
Without wasting more time, Freen immediately wiped her hands against the kitchen towel before grabbing her phone from the counter. She pressed Becky’s contact and started a video call.
The call was answered almost instantly.
Within barely a second, Becky’s sleepy face appeared on the screen, her hair messy from sleep while the blanket was still pulled halfway up to her chin.
Her eyes were barely open and she looked like someone who had been dragged out of the deepest sleep imaginable.
“Becbec,” Freen called casually the moment Becky appeared on screen.
“Hm…” Becky responded weakly, her voice rough and heavy with sleep.
A few seconds later, Becky forced herself to process what Freen had just called her before she frowned tiredly.
“It’s Becky,”she corrected in a sleepy voice, although there was barely any energy behind the complaint.
After that, Becky stayed silent for a moment. She clearly trying to gather enough energy for her brain to function properly.
She rubbed one eye slowly before finally looking at Freen with concern.
“Did something happen at home?” she asked once her sleepiness faded slightly.
Freen shook her head immediately while continuing to prepare the ingredients.
“No. It’s just… Tian and Nareeh requested mommy’s spaghetti tonight,” Freen explained honestly while placing the sausages aside carefully. “But I don’t know what ingredients you always use. Nareeh said the noodles are red and have meatballs, octopus sausages, and star shapes with a smiley face omelette.”
Freen paused for a moment before adding another complaint.
“And Tian said the same thing except he wants dinosaur nuggets with extra cheese. Plus, he wants the omelette to have an angry face.”
Becky blinked slowly at the screen. She clearly still sleepy, but somehow already understanding every single detail immediately because she had heard those exact requests hundreds of times before.
“It’s spaghetti bolognese,” Becky explained softly. Her eyes were slowly closing again from exhaustion. “The star shape Nareeh mentioned is the nuggets. The omelette should be placed on a separate plate, not on top of the spaghetti.”
Freen listened carefully while trying to memorize everything.
“Put carrots, zucchini, and mushrooms,” Becky continued. “But you have to grate them first.”
“Grate?”
“Yes,” Becky answered firmly despite sounding half asleep. “And don’t put celery inside. Just use a little onion and garlic.”
Freen suddenly chuckled quietly when she noticed how adorable Becky looked while trying so hard to stay awake.
Becky’s eyes were barely open, voice sounded soft from sleep, and looked completely defenseless compared to her usual sharp personality.
Without warning, Freen secretly took a screenshot of Becky’s sleepy face.
Becky narrowed her eyes suspiciously. “Are you even listening properly?” she asked.
“Yeah…” Freen answered casually while trying not to smile.
“After grating the vegetables, chop them finely,” Becky continued seriously.
Freen stared at the vegetables again before sighing dramatically. “Can’t I just blend everything?” she complained immediately. “It’s easier. The kids won’t even notice the vegetables later.”
“No,” Becky rejected instantly.
“Why not?”
“Because the taste won’t be the same as the one I always make for them,” Becky replied stubbornly.
Freen stared at the screen for a moment before shaking her head in disbelief.
“It’s so complicated just to feed our babies.”
Becky rolled her eyes tiredly before adjusting the blanket around herself again.
“Then stop complaining and cook properly,” she muttered.
Freen laughed quietly under her breath before nodding obediently.
“Okay, chef.”
After that, Freen placed the phone against a container near the stove so Becky could continue watching her cook through the video call. The angle showed almost the entire kitchen, including Freen moving around while preparing dinner clumsily.
From the screen, Becky silently watched Freen struggle to multitask between cooking and searching for utensils she could not find.
“Where are Tian and Nareeh?” Becky suddenly asked after noticing the living room looked quieter than before.
“In the living room,” Freen answered while busy grating. “They’re playing.”
Becky hummed softly before focusing her attention back on Freen’s cooking.
A few seconds later, Becky suddenly frowned. “Cut the meatballs into four pieces,” she instructed immediately. “They’re too big like that.”
Freen looked down at the meatballs before sighing dramatically again.
“Yes, chef.”
“And don’t overcook the garlic,” Becky added quickly. “You’ll make the sauce bitter.”
Freen quickly lowered the stove heat.
“This seriously feels harder than handling company meetings,” she muttered.
Becky laughed softly for the first time during the call, though her laughter still sounded sleepy.
“That’s because my babies are more difficult than your employees.”
Before Freen could answer, the sound of tiny footsteps suddenly approached the kitchen.
A moment later, Fahnareeh appeared beside Freen while hugging her plush rabbit tightly.
“Daddy…”she called softly. “Is mommy cooking too?”
Freen glanced at the phone before turning it toward Fahnareeh.
“Mommy is supervising me because she doesn’t trust me,” Freen answered dramatically.
Becky instantly scoffed from the screen.
Fahnareeh giggled happily after seeing Becky on the phone.
“Mommy!” she called excitedly before standing at learning tower beside Freen.
“Be careful, Nareeh,” said Freen when looked at Fahnareeh hurriedly stood on the chair.
Fastian suddenly ran into the kitchen too after hearing Becky’s voice.
“Mommy!” he shouted loudly before stopping beside his sister. “I cannot see Mommy here, daddy,” she complained to Freen.
Freen took another learning tower for Fastian.
Fastian then stood up with that. He looked at what was on the table. “Did daddy already ruin the food?”
Fahnareeh covered Fastian’s mouth. Fastian then licked Fahnareeh’s hand. He knows Fahnareeh automatically released her hand from his mouth.
“Daddy!,” Fahnareeh almost crying.
Freen quickly took her to the sink to wash her hands and put Fahnareeh down to learning tower again.
Becky chuckled when looked at them.
“Mommy, where’s my bro?,” asked Fastian.
“Sleeping beside mommy.”
“Listen here both of you, are both of you already assume I’ll fail?” asked Freen towards Fastian and Fahnareeh.
“Because mommy cooks better,” Fastian answered honestly without hesitation.
Becky burst into laughter while Freen stood there staring at the children in betrayal.
“Daddy’s food delicious,” said Fahnareeh.
