Cameron spent the next Christmas alone.

Emma moved to Edinburgh with her new job, and Cameron brought an impulsive ticket back to New York the day after she heard her best friend’s new album, Red. Come Back… Be Here hitting a little too close to home and finalizing Cameron’s decision to move back to the states. There wasn’t really anything keeping her in London.

She was done with her book. Not attached to her job, and her best friend just moved a country away, so it was a simple decision, really.

So with her savings, Cameron moved into a two bedroom apartment in the Upper East Side without a word to any of her friends. Well… Emma knew as they had to decide what to do with their apartment in London. But for now they had decided to keep it as a vocational house in case either of them needed it. They both had the money for it.

And now here she was, spending her first Christmas alone in an apartment way too big for a single person.

The Christmas spirits were high though, and Cameron found herself humming to the music as she walked through the city. She ended up in Rockefeller Center, instinctually renting an ice skate before her mind caught up with her action and before she knew it, the familiar feel of the ice was under her feet.

It made her feel less alone, surrounded by strangers with smiles and laughter. A group of kids chase each other around the rink, and at one point Cameron even saw a couple proposed in front of the tree. Ah… to be young and in love…

Cameron found herself smiling as she skated around the rink, lost in her own thoughts. A sudden collision brought her out of her daydream though and Cameron had a moment to gasp before her body was hitting the ground, a hand wrapped around her head to cushion the fall (which was nice of the stranger, really, but this was such a cliche scene).

“I am so sorry,” the woman on top of her chest pulled away, and Cameron had to blink to make sure she wasn’t hallucinating. Short blonde hair framed the woman’s face and striking blue eyes stared back into greens. A red beanie was pulled all the way down her ears and a winter coat falls to her knees.

“Taylor?”

“Cameron? What are you doing here? I thought you were in New York,” Cameron took Taylor’s offered hands as she got back on her feet. The blonde looked more comfortable on the ice now, no trace of the fumbling girl Cameron had last seen.

Cameron started to skate towards the edge and Taylor followed. “Well, I’m back now. I love London, don’t get me wrong, but I was offered a new job in New York and Emma moved to Edinburgh, so I took the job. We kept the house though, no need to sell that beauty when we can still pay for it and use it as a vacation home for a later date.”

Taylor nodded in understanding, coming to a stop beside Cameron, who raised her eyebrow. “Well you certainly improved on the ice. Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?”

Taylor rolled her eyes. “Your lesson helped.”

“What was that? Taylor Swift announcing the fact that I’m right?” Cameron gasped teasingly. Taylor shoved her, and Cameron skated away playfully before coming back. “But truth be told, I miss you a lot, Tay.”

“Me too,” Taylor admitted quietly. “I am actually looking to move to New York as of a few weeks ago. I acquired a studio here and well… it’s illogical if I don’t stay near my studio.”

“I have an empty room in my apartment,” Cameron blurted out before she could stop herself. But the prospect of living with her best friend seems like a dream come true and she would be stupid to not take that opportunity. She felt if she had been away from Taylor for far too long. She blushed when Taylor studied her. “That is, if you like my apartment. I know it isn’t a penthouse or something but I can promise you that I am an amazing roommate! Just ask Emma, she will tell you all about it.”

Taylor chuckled. “Well, I’ve never met this Emma but she sounds sweet. Come on then, lead the way.”

“You want to see my apartment?”

“If you want me to live in it for the foreseeable future, I would like to see it first,” Taylor gave Cameron a look, and she blushed and started to skate towards the entrance.

“Well, I do hope you’ll decide to live with me, it’ll be nice to be with you again, just like old times.”

Taylor looked over with the softest look in her eyes, and Cameron knew that everything just might be okay again.
