Chapter 6
“Fuck, Delaney… you’re going to make me cum!”
Piper turned her head and kissed the edge of my lips. I angled my face towards hers to allow us to fully kiss one another. The kisses were sporadic due to my fingers working circles around her swollen little clit. Her warm, breathy gasps and whimpers were so intimate and exhilarating that I thought I might cum just from experiencing those alone.
I could tell she was close by the way her thighs were trembling as well as how erratic her breathing was. She was only able to last a few more seconds before her orgasm took her. I held her body tight as she came.
Once I felt she could stand on her own, I reached past her and turned off the shower. Piper turned and embraced me, pressing my back against the wall of the shower and kissing me deeply.
“That was fucking incredible! I wish I could do the same to you, but I’m going to be so fucking late if I don’t hurry.”
“I didn’t expect anything in return. I just couldn’t help myself.”
“Oh, you’re going to get something alright. Just wait until tonight.”
I’m looking forward to it. Now, go get dressed and get to work.”
Piper quickly dried off and kissed me once more before going to get dressed. She yelled goodbye before rushing out the door.
I, on the other hand, climbed back into bed. It had been a long night and I didn’t get much sleep. Another few hours would do me some good.
I ended up sleeping longer than I had planned. I got up, took an actual shower, packed up my stuff and went out to grab some lunch. I filled up my gas tank while I was out, in preparation for leaving town. Since there were no reservations at the motel, I was able to stay in my room and check out later in the evening.
Piper texted me when she was off work and came to meet me at the motel. I made sure I had all of my belongings packed and then checked out of my room. We decided on where to have dinner and went to have our last meal together. I could feel the air of sadness between us, but neither one of us wanted to acknowledge it. We sat and chatted at our table until the autumn sun set. We talked about anything and everything besides what was really going on. I guess it was our way of coping with the inevitable. I knew we had limited time left, but we had one more thing we had promised each other.
“Shall we take a little drive?” I inquired.
“I believe we shall.” Piper replied.
I offered to drive so we buckled in and made the same trip we had been making for the last month. I was especially nervous this time. I knew this would be our last time being with each other. Tomorrow, both of us would have to get on with our lives.
I reached over and grabbed her hand. She looked over at me and smiled. I smiled back and squeezed her hand.
I was driving along when I realized that something didn’t seem right. I was looking out the window, trying to determine why things didn’t look the same when I slammed on the brakes. I had stopped just before the turn-off for our path towards the clearing. I felt defeated as I turned onto the dirt path and stopped my car.
In front of us stood the familiar trio of grain bins. The only problem was their view was unobstructed by the cover of large corn stalks.
“They harvested the field.” Piper said sadly.
We sat staring at where our secret little place had once been.
I rested my forehead against the steering wheel and closed my eyes. Just a moment ago, we had time. Now, that time seemed to be gone. I was so looking forward to this time with her, in our place.
We sat in silence, coming to terms with the fact that we wouldn’t have our last night together. I felt her squeeze my hand and lifted my head to look at her. Her eyes were wet, and she was chewing on her bottom lip.
“I’m sorry.” She said.
“It’s not your fault…but, I’m sorry too.”
“What do we do now?” She asked.
I leaned over the center armrest and pulled her into my arms. We were both sniffling as we fought back tears.
“You should get on the road before it gets too late. You have a long drive ahead of you.”
I sat upright in my seat, adjusted my top, and got situated. Then I put the car in reverse. I backed out onto the highway and headed back into town. We had driven a few miles and had just passed the sign marking the city limits when I yanked the wheel and came to a stop on the shoulder of the road.
“Delaney! What the…”
“Piper… what keeps you here?”
“Uhm… I don’t have anywhere else to go. I don’t have enough money to start over anywhere either.”
“Yeah. I mean, look around. This place fucking sucks. It’s depressing, there’s no opportunity, I’m just…. I’m stuck here.”
“Would anyone miss you if you were gone?”
“Well, I’m going to miss you.
“I’m going to miss you too. A lot. I’ve been…I’ve been a wreck these last few days. I knew this was coming, you leaving…but… my god, Delaney… I think…I think I’m in…”
“I’m in love with you, too.”
“Yes. Very much so.”
Piper’s face scrunched up as she began to cry.
“Come home with me. Let’s go grab all of your shit, and let’s get out of here. Forever.”
“Yes, really. Fuck this place. We will live together. My apartment isn’t big, but it’s plenty for both of us. You won’t have to worry about starting over by yourself. You can easily get another nursing job, too.”
“I let my license expire, and I don’t have enough…”
“Uh uh, I don’t want to hear it. I’ll pay for your license. I’ll pay for everything until you get back on your feet. I’m not loaded by any means, but we can make it work for a while. Please. I can’t leave you here.”
“Oh, Delaney, you have no idea how happy this makes me. I thought I was losing you.” She began crying again.
I leaned over and placed my palms against her cheeks and softly kissed her lips.
“I feel like an idiot for not realizing sooner. These last few days had me thinking so much. You know, shit with my mom had me so upset and I was afraid I was just finding release from it with you. But, the closer the time came for me to leave, the more my heart ached. I didn’t want to hurt you, or myself, so I had to be sure. The sadness I felt, knowing I was driving you back to your place, and the thought of leaving you… it solidified my feelings for you. I don’t want to leave without you.”
“I really didn’t want to see you go. I know we discussed that this wasn’t meant to be serious, just a fun little thing, but I couldn’t help the feelings that I developed for you. Tonight was so difficult. I tried putting on a happy face, but inside I was a wreck. You have no idea how happy this makes me.”
“If it’s as happy as I’m feeling right now, then I have a pretty damn good idea.”
We kissed each other deeply, letting go of all the built-up tension we had both been experiencing.
“So, how long will it take us to get your stuff packed?”
“Not long. I’m living out of my aunt’s spare bedroom. I have all of my stuff in totes in her basement storage unit. I just have a small assortment of clothes in the closet. All of my toiletries are in a little caddy. It’s been hard to get settled in.”
I drove us to her aunt’s apartment. Piper explained to her aunt what was happening, and her aunt seemed almost indifferent to it. We wasted no time in packing her van and my SUV. We stopped for gas and snacks before hitting the road. Piper added her new address into her map app, and we were off.
It was midnight when we pulled into the parking lot of my… our apartment complex. We brought in the essentials and left the rest for tomorrow.
Once inside, I showed her around the place. We had a lot to take care of, but after the night we had just had, we were both exhausted. We stripped down to nothing and climbed into bed together. We would christen the bed tomorrow; tonight was all about sleep.
When I woke later the next morning, it was with her wrapped in my arms. She was sleeping peacefully, nuzzled up against me. To think that I almost left without her, without telling her how I felt… it made my stomach hurt.
Feeling her next to me, thinking about the past month with her, and imagining what the future for us would be like… it warmed my heart. I knew we were meant to be.
I walked through the front door of our apartment and was welcomed by the scent of something delicious cooking. I set my purse and bag down by the front door and slipped off my coat and shoes.
“Is that my beautiful girlfriend?” Piper called out from the kitchen.
“It’s definitely your hungry girlfriend.”
I walked up behind her and put my arms around her.
“So hungry AND beautiful… and sexy, and sweet. I’m happy you’re home.” Piper replied.
“How was your day?” I asked.
“Guess who has a job?”
“Really?! That’s awesome! Where?”
“St. Francis West. I start in a week.”
“I’m so happy for you, baby! Congratulations!”
I squeezed her tight and kissed her cheek. Piper turned her head to find my lips as we shared a kiss.
“I can’t believe it. The hospital seems great, the benefits are so good, and the pay… I just can’t get over it.”
“You deserve it. I know you’re going to do great.”
“Thank you for having confidence in me.”
I planted soft kisses on her neck and made a path with my lips down to her shoulder. I was interrupted before I could go further.
“If you want me to burn dinner, then keep going. Otherwise, you’re going to have to stop turning me on until later.”
“I mean, I can think of something else to eat instead…”
“Mmm… I like that idea, but let’s save that for dessert.”
