Chapter 14
Ellie’s POV:
Clarisse and I took today off, most of the cabins did, really, as someone spread an idea around camp for us to hang out by the lake and swim.
It’s been really hot out this week, and today was blistering, says the kids around camp. Being a child of Apollo means we cant feel the sun’s heat like everyone else, which is fun.
My siblings and I changed into bathing suits. I stepped into some jean shorts and a camp t-shirt before sliding on a pair of sandals for the walk.
“Soooooo.” Kayla asks, saddling up next to me with a grin that reflected the sun.” How are things going with Clarisse?” I blush and nudge her, leaving her giggling.
“Come on.” Kayla whines.” Nothing interesting ever happens with me.” I roll my eyes.
“We’re doing good, we’re both learning how to let people in and be in a relationship, but it’s great. I really like her.” Kayla squeals at my words, and I gasp as I get pulled in by my waist, my body crashing into another. I glare up at the person to see a smirking Clarisse.
“Clari-” The brown-eyed girl cuts me off as she suddenly bends, tossing me over her shoulder.” Clarisse!” I squeal out, people look our way as the brunette starts to jog, pushing past people who didn’t move quickly enough.
“What are you doing?!” I shout, slapping her on the butt, but I gasp as she sharply slaps my ass back with a wicked laugh.
I look up as I hear a chuckle and spot Luke with Chris. “Need help?” Chris smirks as Luke watches on, amused.
“Please!” I shout after him, reaching for him, but he doesn’t even attempt to help. He watches with a smile, and I flip him off.
And like deja vu, I gasp as I free-fall and land into the cold water, and Clarisse laughs fill the sandy beach.
I sit up to see Clarisse dying of laughter, Marcus joins her along with Luke, Chris, and some other older kids who watch on in amusement, some laughing themselves as each cabin takes claim to a spot on the beach. I glare at my girlfriend and stand to my feet, dripping wet. I march right up to her as she watches me with a cocky smirk.
“You’ll regret that.” I spit out, and Clarisse chuckles, stepping even closer, pushing her face into mine.
“Will I?” Her words come out flirty, and I huff when my cheeks turn red. I get a fantastic idea, and an innocent look comes over my face as I step back from her.
“You got my clothes all wet.” I tell her, she raises a brow, her smirk widening. I unbutton my shorts and slowly shimmy out of them, the water reflecting off my tan skin making me look like I was glowing.
I look up at Clarisse as I step out of the shorts. Her smirk was gone, as her eyes widened, she swallowed loud. I glance around to see she wasnt the only one watching as I kicked my shorts to the side and grabbed the end of my shirt.
“Don’t.” Clarisse pushed the word out airily; she was holding back; her eyes darted around suddenly, and her eyes narrowed as she noticed what I did. This show wasn’t just for her.
I pull my shirt up and over my head, stretching as I pull it off and let it fall next to my shorts.
“Now they need to dry.” I tell her innocently, her eyes snap to mine, her jaw tightening. I pick up my wet, sandy clothes and walk past Marcus, Luke, Chris, and another of Luke’s brothers named Josh, all of whom were staring after me with wide eyes and dropped jaws.
“What are you lossers looking at!” Clarisse snapped, I heard a grunt, and looked back to see Clarisse marching after me and Josh on the floor. I giggle, knowing she shoved him down. I dropped my clothes next to Sarah, who grinned with a brow raised, silently asking me what I was doing.
“Do you have sunscreen?” I ask my sister and she chuckles.
“Our father is the Sun God; we don’t get sunburns.” She tells me, and I smirk.
“I know.” I walk around our setup just before Clarrise could grab me, and I cirle round to Luke and Chris.
“Do you guys have sunscreen?” I ask, and Luke smiles.
“Yeah.” He reaches into his bag and pulls it out, holding it out to me.
“Can you put it on my back?” I ask him innocently, and he shakes his head with a laugh.
“-You tryin to get me killed?”
“-I will!”Josh and Luke speak at the same time. Luke and I both stared at Josh wide eyed as he snatched the sunblock from Luke.
I hide my laugh as I turn around. Josh squeezes the product on his hands.
“Josh, I really wouldn’t.” Luke warns him, and I look over my shoulder with a mischievous smile.
“I’m not scared of Clarisse; she’s a whole bunch of bark and not a lot of bite.” Josh says with a cocky smirk, sending a winks at me, but my face drops as Clarisse, in that moment walked up behind him, stealthy and quiet. Her face read murder.
Before Josh could touch me, he was choking. Clarisse wrapped her hand around the guy’s throat and shoved him back down into the sand. He let out an, ‘off’ as his back hit the compacted sand, and he gasped, shouting as her knee slammed into his chest as she held him in place, a knife right above his left eye.
I roll my eyes at her dramatics.
“What was that about my bite?” The brunette asked too calmly.
Josh tried shoving her off, her knee on his chest making him gasp for breath, and she pressed the knife into the skin right below his eye.
“Ellie, make her stop.” Luke comes over and whispers, knowing that if she heard it from him, she would only get angrier.
I sigh.
“Clarisse, if you stop being a jerk, I will too.” I tell her, she snaps her head back to me with hard eyes.
“Promise?” She asks, and I cross my arms over my chest and nod.
“I won’t make you apologies for throwing me into the water either.” her lips twitch at that, holding back her smile at her actions, I know she didn’t feel an ounce of guilt for throwing me in the water, and I knew given the chance she would do it again, but I also knew bringing it up would amuse her.
She stands with a small chuckle, throwing her knife into the ground near Josh’s cheek, making him flinch as he rolled away gulping in air. Clarisse wrapped an arm around my waist and lifted me. I wrapped my legs around her slim waist.
“Mine.” She says, slamming her lips to mine, and I smile into it.
When we pull away, she walks us towards the water.” He never stood a chance.” I tell her, and she smirks.
“I know, you’re mine.” I giggle, tightening my legs around the taller girl waist.
