Chapter 7

                                                         Chapter Seven

                                 ~~~~~ Alex – What are you doing to me? ~~~~~
When I woke up the next day, Kylie was gone. ‘I can’t believe slept the whole damn day.’ me either. My stomach growled loudly and started to hurt. Ignoring the pain I got up and took a cold shower.
As I was in the shower, my hand went slowly to my lips. They felt tingly and sticky. I had lip-gloss on them and yet I don’t wear any. The flavor was amazing. I’ve never liked watermelon, but this was different. Watermelon lip-gloss is now my new favorite flavor.
I changed into some jeans and a black polo shirt. Kylie somehow didn’t get out of my head. I once again brought my hand to my lips and felt the same as before.
‘This, whatever it is, has to stop right now.’ please don’t say that.
When I got to the room, Rachel was sitting on the bed. I froze and stared at her. ‘What did you do now?’ I haven’t done anything. ‘Then why is she here.’ Well, this is HER house.
Rachel looked up and smiled. I let out a sigh of relief realizing that she didn’t look mad. I closed the door and went to sit beside her.
“What happened yesterday?” Rachel asks grabbing my hands. I look at her face which is full of both concern and confusion. “When I went to pick you up, you weren’t there. I looked everywhere for you, your phone was off and I panicked.” tears began to form in her eyes. I hug her tightly.
“I’m sorry. I completely forgot to turn the phone on.” I said into her hair. She let me go a few seconds later and looked at me with a serious expression.
“Why do you do that?” she asks releasing me.
“Do what?” I ask her confused.
“Refer to things as if they don’t belong to you, when in fact, they do.” Her eyes kept searching for something but I don’t know what she was searching for, or what she might find.
“No they don’t.” I say quietly. “This is not my home, Rachel. The things you provide will never be mine.” I get up and go to the closet. Rachel follows shortly after.
“All this is not mine,” I wave my hand around the room. “It’s yours. You bought it, not me. I appreciate all you guys have done for me, but please don’t expect anything but a thank you from me.” It sounded harsh. I know I hurt her, but its better this way. She needs to know so she doesn’t get her hopes up. I’ll only end up messing everything up anyway.
“I know I asked you for a month, but now I ask you to give me three. Give me three months-” I cut her off and didn’t let her finish.
“Rachel, please don’t make this harder than it needs to be. You don’t want me here, trust me. I know you and Mike will be happy together with your own kids, not me.” Grabbing my skateboard and backpack I head out the room. Rachel follows behind asking me to come back.
Mike was downstairs waiting for Rachel. He didn’t try to stop me when I passed him. He gave Rachael a comforting hug and kiss before I headed out the front door. I put my backpack on and put my skateboard down.
‘You could try, you know.’ try what? ‘Give her the three months. Make those months count, and if it doesn’t work out, then you just leave.
I grab my hair in frustration and pump my legs harder.
Just leave me alone! ‘I’ll leave you alone when you answer me this, what’s with you and this Kylie chick?’ if I knew that, I wouldn’t be like this now would I? ‘You-‘
“Oh come on! Not again!” I yelled as I was once again, shot through the air. But this time I did a flip and landed flat on my back. The wind was blown out of me and the fact that I had my backpack and landed on the grass, did not make the impact any better. Closing my eyes I tried to catch my breath. A few seconds later a person was by my side.
“Are you ok? Please be ok. You came out of nowhere, and I didn’t see you. Are you ok? Please be ok.” The voice was unmistakable, it was Kylie.
“You already said that.” I chuckled, but didn’t open my eyes. I heard her laugh and a huge smile spread across my face. I pulled my backpack off still not opening my eyes and laid back down breathing slowly.
“Alexandria, are you ok?” she asks seriously. I slowly open my eyes and look into her piercing blue eyes. She looks so worried.
“I’m fine Kylie and please, call me Alex.” My heart started to beat faster as I said her name. My stomach started to flutter and my hands got sweaty. ‘What is this girl doing to you?’
“Are you sure? There’s a hospital about five minutes away I don’t mind taking you-” she continues to babble on while I tune her out and stare at her. Kylie, what are you doing to me?
She was still talking when I tuned her back in. “Kylie, kylie breath!” I said when she wouldn’t stop apologizing. She took a deep breath and let it out.
“Look, please just tell me you’re ok.”
“Kylie I’ve told you, I’m fine just a little-” she didn’t let me finish as she made her own conclusions and started to examine my body.
‘Whoa! Why aren’t you stopping her?’ simply because I don’t want to.
“Oh gosh that’s going to leave a bruise.” Kylie said turning me over so she could check my back. She lifted my shirt and touched my back where the bruise was. I felt a chill go through my entire body.
“Am I going to live, doctor?” I asked with a grin as she started to pull my shirt back. I chuckled when she came to her senses and looked ashamed. She instantly turns red. That has to be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
‘Ok so now she’s, cute?’ yes, yes she is. I like it when she blushes.
“You’ll live, but your chances are pretty slim if you keep bumping into me like this.” she helps me up and starts to dust me off. It didn’t hurt when she slightly hit my body, but with every touch I could feel my body jump like I was being electrocuted.
‘But why does it feel so good?’ ha! Admit it you like her too. ‘No I don’t!’
Wait did she just blame me for these so called ‘encounters’? ‘Yes she did. What are you going to do about it?’
“Wait a minute; you’re the one who’s always on my way.” I defend myself.
“If you would pay attention to where you are going then, you would notice me walking minding my own business.”
She stood there with her arms cross waiting for a comeback. ‘I have nothing.’ me either.
“Come on, were going to be late.” I said giving up. A huge grin spread on her face as she realized she had won.
I picked up my backpack and went to get my skateboard. When I bent down I saw Kylie’s eyes get wide and her mouth slightly open.
‘Is she starring at your ass?’
Kylie composed herself and looked away when I got up. We walked in silence for a few feet. It was not an uncomfortable silence. We were almost at the school building when Kylie abruptly stopped and looked at me.
“Did you really beat up your middle school principle?” she asked.
‘What the hell? Where the fuck did that come from? And how does she know about that?’ you ask too many questions. ‘Give me some answers so I won’t ask anymore damn questions.’
“Who told you that?” I asked looking straight into her eyes. She looked down and seemed ashamed.
“I kind of Googled you.” Her face got red as she blushed.
‘She did what?’ Are you death? She Googled me. ‘Smartass.’ takes one to know one.
“And what did Google say about me?” I ask raising my eyebrow and crossing my arms.
“There were some articles about you. One said that you beat the crap out of a middle school principle because he gave you a detention.”
‘That’s a fucking lie!’ That bastard blamed it all on me, and a detention. ‘You should have finished him off.’
“What else did it say?” I clenched my fist to hold in the anger. They started to hurt after a few seconds, but I ignored it.
“It said a lot of things, actually.”
“So?” I asked releasing my fists.
“Oh my gosh! It’s true. Everything it said is true. You did beat up that principle. And everything it said is true.”
“Dude I really have no idea why you Goggled me, but some of it is false, I can tell you that much. And before you ask anything else, you’ll just have to find out yourself not by looking me up.” I started to walk again and Kylie followed right behind me. She was quiet the rest of the way.
When we got to school parking lot, she was instantly crowded with people. They all looked at her funny when they saw she was with me. I simply said goodbye and left.
‘She really is popular.’ yeah. ‘Do you think she’s a cheerleader or an athlete?’ I don’t know, but I want to find out.
“Alex!” I turned around and saw Ismael heading my way. He had a warm smile on his face.
‘You’re kidding me right? This fool just doesn’t get it.’ chill, and since when do I say fool? ‘Since now fool.’
“I wanted to apologize for earlier. I was way out of line.” he looked sincere. He was quietly waiting for a response.
“It’s ok. It’s forgotten.” I say giving him a smile.
“So listen, I was wondering if maybe you could umm…” he was nervous and looked embarrassed. Taking a deep breath he finally got the courage to talk.
“I was wondering if you could come to practice with us. Your voice is amazing and everyone loved you yesterday. The guys were extremely impressed with you too, and would like you to join our band.” He talked really fast. Finally he finished and took a deep breath. He looked at me with pleading eyes.
‘Don’t you dare fall for the eyes!‘ I won’t.
“Ismael I-” he stopped me before I could say anything else.
“You don’t have to decide now. just think about it, ok?.” he gave me a hug and ran off.
‘Did he just hug you?’ yep.
Classes were going smoothly. I even wrote down some notes so it would look like I was doing something, when in reality I was thinking about my beautiful blue eyed girl. Whoa that came out wrong. ‘For your sake I really hope it did.’
During passing period Kylie saw me and smiled. It took everything in me not to faint again.
My stomach was growling the whole morning. Even the dang desk seemed appetizing. ‘Damn calm down.’ hey I haven’t eaten in 48 hours. I’m so hungry I could eat you. ‘Smartass if you eat me then you eat yourself.’
When Algebra came, my hunger got worst. Mrs. Hall gave an assignment and let us work in partners. My stomach growled at me the whole time. I groaned when the clock said we still had 30 minutes left of class.
I didn’t even wait for the bell to ring; I gathered my things and left the paper on her desk before running out the door.
My stomach did a flip when I smelled the pizza. I abruptly stopped. ‘Why pizza?!’ the smell was revolting. My stomach then growled even louder.
With all my might I kicked a nearby locker and screamed out all my anger. The noise was powerful and the pain that came over my foot was excruciating. I grabbed my foot and jumped up and down while cursing in Spanish.
“Mierda! Joder! eso dolió! Puta mano cómo se me ocurre hacer eso?!” (Fuck! Shit that hurt! Why the hell did I do that?!)
I heard someone laughing and immediately stopped bouncing like a fool. ‘Ha! You do say fool.’ shut up.
“That’s what you get for kicking my locker and colorful language by the way.” Kylie walks up to her locker and inspects the damage. There is a huge dent on it. She raises one sexy eyebrow at me.
‘Damn that’s hot.’ What? ‘You heard me. That’s hot.’
“What made you destroy my locker?”
I stood there with nothing to say. I opened my mouth but nothing came out. She just hugged her books and continued staring at me with her sexy eyebrow raised.
“I’m so sorry, I’m starving and hate pizza just the smell makes me want to throw up but I can’t since my stomach is empty. I haven’t eaten in 2 days and I’m so hungry I could eat myself.” she just chuckled at me as I talked really fast and tried to open her locker. Of course it didn’t work.
“Do you want to go out?” she asked me giving up on the locker. I was stunned by the question. She realized what she had said and quickly corrected herself.
“To eat I mean. There’s a good Chinese buffet down the street.”
“I can’t leave campus.” I tell her. Being a freshman sucks! ‘You can say that again.’ Being a fresh- ‘ok smartass just shut up.’ hey that my line!
“If you stay quiet and do exactly what I tell you, then we can get out of campus without any problems. That’s if you want to.” her eyes were pleading for me to agree.
‘If you don’t say yes I’m going to kick your ass.’ hey I thought you didn’t like her. ‘Dude I’m starving!! Just say yes!’
“Ok but I need to put my things away.” she quickly smiles and starts to walk towards my locker.
‘How does she know where it is?’ I have no clue.
“Is it ok if I put some of my things in you locker, since you know, you kinda broke mine.”
“Umm yeah I don’t really have anything in there except textbooks and some notebooks.” when we finally place our things in the locker she grabs my hand and drags me to the school exit.
‘She can drag your ass any day.’ wow you seem to like her more than I do. Wait, that came out wrong. ‘No it didn’t.’
There was a guard at the door checking the student’s school I’d. I started to panic. Kylie noticed it and squeezed my hand. I felt instantly better. She let go of my hand and went up to the guard. I stood there and let her work her magic with the guard.
“Hey Greg, how’s Kimberley doing?” she puts her hand behind her back and signals me to walk forward. Greg was instantly sucked into a conversation with Kylie. He didn’t notice me walking right pass him.
‘She’s good.’ Yes she is.
Kylie appeared seconds later with a huge grin on her face. She happily skipped while whistling acting like an innocent little girl.
I laughed at her as she gives me a high five and continues skipping down the sidewalk.
“You coming?” she says a few feet away. I shake my head and start to walk.
                          ~~~~~ Kylie – Life changes at the blink of an eye ~~~~~

     Kylie woke to the annoying sound of her alarm and quickly got up to turn it off. She knew that if the alarm were to be next to her, she would just hit the snooze button and never wake up, so she made herself get out if bed every morning to turn it off.

After a quick hot shower, she went to her closet to pick out a dress out of her endless collection of sundresses. She decides to go with a yellow dress that is covered in white flowers, and after many shoes she just went with plain white flats.

Her hair was tangled and in many knots. 20 Minutes later Kylie had straighten her hair and had applied her favorite watermelon lip-gloss. One last look in the mirror and she was out her room heading for the kitchen with her things in hand.

“Good morning kylie.” she instantly froze when she saw her father sitting in the head of the table. Gabe was sitting silently eating his cereal, while her mom had a huge smile on her face.

“What are you waiting for? Come give your old men a hug.” said her father with a smile but something in his voice made Kylie doubt him.

Kylie didn’t want any more problems with either her mom or the man in front of her, so without another word she went up him and gave the man a hug.

“So kylie, how’s school?” said kylie’s mother when kylie sat down on the table. Breakfast was already set out for her, so she just prayed for her food and began to eat. She quietly answered a faint fine to her mother and continued eating.

When Kylie finished her breakfast, she got her plate and took it to the kitchen. She put the plate down and put her hands on the sides of the sink. She lowered her head and closed her eyes. She wanted to scream but tried not to.

“Kylie, umm I know you don’t approve of your father being back but please, for me-” She let go of the sink and turned to her mother. Kylie saw the pain in her mother’s face and decided to stop her.

“Mom, its ok I should be apologizing to him. I’m the one who caused all this.” as much as it hurt her to say it, it was true. Kylie let a few tears escape her eyes and hugged her mother tightly.

“Umm… Kylie please don’t hate your father, but,” Kylie knew she had to prepare for what was coming. Her body stiffened but she didn’t let go of her mother. She knew she would collapse if she did.

“He sold your car so we could pay for all the bills were behind on.” Kylie felt like she had been slapped repeatedly across the face. He couldn’t. She thought. God please let be a prank.

“I’m sorry honey we needed the money.” Kylie let go of her mother and stepped away from her.

“Why mom? I need that car. How am going to get to school? Who’s going to take Gabe to school? How am I going to get to my job?” Kylie could no longer control her anger. Kylie saw the tears in her mother’s eyes but for the first time in her life, she found that she didn’t care.

“I’m sick of this! How can you let him treat you like shit? How can you live someone who abuses you and your children? Mom why do you let him come back like nothing happened?” Kylie just said everything she had been storing inside for years.

They were not aware that Gabe was listening to everything that was being said. He leans on the wall and falls to the ground. Tears begin to fall from his eyes as he listens to his love ones fight.

“Kylie he is your father. He’s my husband. I love him.” her mom pleaded. Kylie’s words had hurt more than Adriana ever thought possible.

“That man is NOT my father. He’s a damn-” Kylie felt the pain on her check as her mother slapped her. Kylie covered her cheek in total shock.

“Don’t you dare talk about your father like that ever again! Do you hear me!” Adriana was furious. Kylie saw the woman before her and felt sorry for her.

“You know what mother, you can be blind and love a drunken bastard that beats you, but I can’t. I’m not going to live like this anymore.” Kylie ran to her room to grab her things. She got the necessary things and stuffed them in her gym bag. When she was almost out the door, she saw Gabe on the ground crying his eyes out.

She quickly ran to him and hugged him. Gabe instantly began to beg her to stay. Kylie felt her heart break as she saw Gabe cry and plead.

“Gabriel I want you to take care of mom, ok. I want you to go to school and learn everything you can. I love you more than anything and will miss you. Goodbye little brother.” kissing his head she got up and looked at the house one last time. Memories rushed back as she looked at the pictures and things around the house.

She ran out the house never looking back. Kylie heard both Gabe and her mother yelling for her to come back but ignored them and kept running.

She ran as fast as her legs allowed her. Her mind was everywhere. Her cheek had healed but the pain went beyond the slap. Adriana had never raised her hand at her daughter. Kylie tried not to cry but found it impossible and let the tears fall.

After a few minutes she was too tired to continue and fell to the ground crying while trying to catch her breath. People were nowhere in sight, so she felt no shame in crying loudly.

She knew that she had to compose herself, but found it hard to do so. Finally she got up and walked down the sidewalk. Her eyes were finally there normal color and she was totally composed. Kylie liked this part of her. She could quickly compose herself, and act like her life was perfect, when in reality her life was a mess.

Her mind took her back to Gabriel’s face. She would do everything in her power to get him out of there. He would not suffer like she had; she would get him out of that life.

Kylie never saw her. When she realized what happened, it was too late. The girl was already flying through the air.

“Oh come on! Not again!” Alexandria said as she did a backfill and landed on the grass. Kylie ran to the girl and panicked. She spoke rapidly not knowing what to say. “Are you ok? Please be ok. You came out of nowhere, and I didn’t see you. Are you ok? Please be ok.” Alexandria had her eyes closed but found it easy to smile and laugh at Kylie.

Kylie could not control herself as she spoke to the girl. All the mixed feeling had come back when she saw the girls face. Alexandria was breathtaking. When the girl had mentioned that she was ok Kylie felt relief fill her body but heard the girl complain about something. She immediately turned the girl around and raised her shirt to check out the damage. Her eyes got wide as she saw the bruise forming on her lower back.

When the girl chuckled and asked if she was going to live, Kylie realized what she was doing and quickly put the girl’s shirt back. Her cheeks were burning with embarrassment.

“You’ll live, but your chances are pretty slim if you keep bumping into me like this.” She helped the girl up and lightly started to clean her clothes. Her hand was begging to touch the girl’s body but she fought the urge to do so.

When Alex bent down to pick her skateboard up, Kylie couldn’t look away. Her eyes got wide and her jaw dropped to the floor. She couldn’t look away. The sight was amazing to her. Kylie had never felt anything as strong as this before in her entire life. Jeans had never been so sexy to her, until now.

She quickly pulled herself together as the girl got up. It was difficult not to think about what she had just seen.

After the little incident Kylie walked beside the girl in silence. She still felt embarrassed. After a while she remembered what she had found out last night when researching about the girl.

When Alex didn’t deny everything, Kylie was in total awe. This beautiful girl is something else.

She wanted to ask her so many things, but was then surrounded with people. Kylie heard Alex say goodbye but could not see her through the crowd in front of her.

“Hey Kylie, where’s your car?” asked Anthony putting his arm around her waist. Kylie felt the anger go through her entire body.

“My dad sold it.” she gritted her teeth and left without another word. When she went inside, Alexandria was at her locker. Kylie was about to go talk to her, but the bell rung indicating that classes were starting soon.

Kylie simply went to class and tried to focus. She gave up 10 minutes into her first hour. Where am I going to stay? The question hunted her. She could afford a hotel for at least one whole week with the money she had on her. Luckily she had remembered to get the spare cash she had.

When lunch came around Kylie had decided that she would go find a job after school. It didn’t matter what the job was, as long as it was close and she could still attend school.

She turned the corner just in time to see Alex kick her locker. Kylie laughed when she saw Alex jump up and down holding her injured foot. Kylie recognized every word Alex yelled in Spanish and laughed at the girl’s colorful language.

“That’s what you get for kicking my locker and colorful language by the way.” Kylie went to inspect the damage but like she had guessed the locker could no longer open. She silently thanked that she had not left anything important inside it.

Kylie heard the girl’s stomach growl as Alex explained herself. Something inside her wanted to ask her the question she asked. She couldn’t stop the words as they came out. “Do you want to go out?”

Alex looked shocked and stunned. Kylie quickly tried to straighten things out and the girl instantly looked better.

Walking to the girl’s locker, Kylie was frustrated with herself. How can she invite a girl she barely knows to lunch? Not caring anymore Kylie grabbed the girls hand and practically dragged her. The girl’s skin was soft. She mentally slapped herself and shook her head to get rid of all the things she was about to think.

Greg was checking Id’s as the approached they door. Alex got nervous so without thinking Kylie squeezed her hand. That seemed to calm Alex down, so Kylie let go of the girls hand and went up to Greg.

She asked about Kimberly, since Greg was always bragging about his daughter. As the conversation was distracting Greg, Kylie put her hand behind her back, and signaled Alex to move.

The plan worked out successfully. Kylie felt like skipping, so that’s what’s she did. She skipped and whistled down the sidewalk. She felt childish, but she didn’t care. Giving Alex a hive five for a job well done, she continued to skip down the sidewalk. Alex was left behind.

“You coming?” Kylie asked looking at Alex. The girl followed behind her. Kylie smiled and walked with the beautiful girl.
