Chapter 3

megan’s jaw tightened. “not that i need your help.”

daniela stepped closer anyway, silent and deliberate. megan handed over the zipper with the tiniest flick of her eyes, her pride warring with practicality.

the tension was electric. every second stretched like a drumroll, the unspoken challenge blazing: neither would admit how much they were depending on the other… even as they were.

lara and yoonchae lingered at the edge of the room, smirking knowingly, while manon and sophia exchanged quiet glances, whispering and chuckling at the silent war unfolding before them.

the zipper finally clicked, megan snapped it into place, and without a word, both rivals turned toward the stage, hearts racing in rhythm with their unspoken duel.

mid-spin, megan’s foot caught on the edge of the stage platform. for a heartbeat, she wavered.

daniela’s eyes snapped to hers, sharp and alert. without hesitation, she grabbed megan’s waist, steadying her just enough to keep the move seamless. megan’s chest hammered—not from the near-fall, but from the intensity radiating off daniela. she didn’t thank her. she didn’t even look at her.

“careful,” daniela muttered, low and clipped, just loud enough for megan to hear, her lips twitching like she was barely holding back a smirk.

megan’s jaw clenched. “i’ve got it,” she shot back, even though the heat of her hand against daniela’s lingered longer than necessary.

the rest of katseye moved around them flawlessly, the music thundering, but all anyone could sense was the fiery tension between the pair. lara and yoonchae exchanged quiet smirks, while manon and sophia whispered under their breath, eyes darting to the duo’s silent war.

every lift, spin, and handhold from that point on carried unspoken sparks, each one daring the other to slip, falter, or blink first. neither would. not now. not ever.

the final notes blared through the speakers, lights flashing, and katseye struck their closing formation. megan and daniela were still paired, bodies aligned perfectly, breaths heavy, movements sharp and charged.

daniela’s eyes flicked to megan, daring, fiery, like she was trying to claim victory without a word. megan’s gaze met hers, calm, controlled, but cold—an unspoken refusal to be intimidated.

the crowd roared, oblivious to the silent duel playing out center stage. hands brushed during a final spin, and neither flinched, neither blinked. sparks lingered in the air like the residue of lightning.

lara floated around the stage edge, twirling in delight. “ohhh, that’s how you end a concert! fire and magic!”

manon laughed, loud and brash. “dani’s being her usual terror, and megan… still icy. honestly, it’s hilarious watching them fight without a word.”

sophia rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide a small grin. “classic. megan doesn’t budge, dani’s relentless, and yoonchae… is the only one keeping me sane back here.”

yoonchae smiled softly, hands clasped in front of her. “they… really push each other, but it’s impressive,” she said, calm and steady, grounding the group amidst the storm of energy.

as the last beat faded and the lights dimmed, the crowd erupted into cheers. megan and daniela stepped back from each other, still maintaining their icy stares, still aggressive vs. cold, neither willing to break the tension even for a moment.

backstage, the group swarmed, congratulating each other, laughing and teasing, but everyone knew—the slow-burn between megan and daniela hadn’t ended. it had simply survived the stage, alive, electric, and far from over.

the group arrived at the hotel floor, dragging luggage behind them. beck, their manager, handed out the keycards with a pointed glance.

“rooms are assigned. megan and daniela—your room is 1205. sophia and manon—1206. lara and yoonchae—1207. everyone else, do not disturb.”

megan and daniela stepped toward their room, the air between them thick with unspoken tension.

daniela smirked, tugging her suitcase behind her. “well, this is going to be… fun.”

megan’s jaw tightened, icy as ever. “fun for you, maybe. i’ll survive.”

they entered the hotel room, and the first thing megan noticed was the obvious: a single bed.
