Chapter 21

dani and megan stepped into the cool night air.

“i could hear you, y’know?” megan broke the silence. “earlier. when you were repeating ‘even if you don’t forgive me, megan, i’ll love you forever.'”

dani flushed. “sorry.”

megan sighed. “don’t be. and… thank you.”

dani tilted her head. “for what?”

“bringing me back home, and… for defending me. you were my sanctuary during dream academy. every time son killed me inside, you were there. thank you..” megan clearly felt vulnerable in that moment. “… and.. dani.. spending more time with you recently has gotten me thinking. have you ever heard that quote, ‘hate is an obsession, and love is the strongest form of obsession?’ “

megan paused and stopped walking, pulling dani a little closer and lacing their fingers together.

“i…” megan inhaled sharply. “i hated you so much… that i loved you. and i didnt notice… not until now.”

dani froze. her fingers loosened from megan’s, lips parted ever so slightly in shock.

“megan…” dani whispered. “tell me this is real. tell me it’s real. please.”

a small smile spread across megan’s face. “this is real, dani…”

dani’s fingers tightened and she pressed her lips firmly to megan’s.

megan barely registered.

dani was kissing her.

dani, as in daniela andrea avanzini llorente, katseye’s main dancer, was kissing her.

the pair broke apart, breathless.

dani’s cheeks had flushed further, but this time not from the cold.

“dani…” megan murmured.

dani sighed. “i owe you an explanation. why i started hating you.”

“megan… i fell in love with you during dream academy. but i thought that… if i wasn’t straight… my family would hate me.

“so i pretended to hate you… made myself believe it…”

“you thought that if you hated me, you’d forget the feelings,” megan finished softly.

dani sighed. “not… my brightest moment.”

megan chuckled. “c’mon, let’s head back home.”

the pair wandered aimlessly in the direction of home, laughing with one another.

they reached the house and headed up the stairs.

“where are manon, lara, yoonchae, and sophia?” megan asked.

dani flung open the first door she saw, searching for whichever girl was in there, and then froze.

“AGH, WHAT THE FUCK DANI?” manon screamed. she threw a blanket over herself and another figure in the bed— wait. what?

“is that sophia…?” dani deadpanned.

manon flashed a sheepish grin. “out!”

dani shut the door behind her, and the pair continued to the next room.

“anyone here? i’m coming in whether you like it or not,” megan called out, and pushed open the door.

lara screamed. yoonchae jumped up and turned a giant whiteboard upside down.

“hey… guys!” yoonchae managed. “um… how are you?”

megan glanced at dani. “should we tell them?”

a smirk danced at dani’s lips.

“dani and i are… a thing now,” megan said bluntly.

yoonchae gasped. lara shrieked. “no… no way, really?”

yoonchae beamed. “no need for this then! if ya wanna see it, feel free,”

dani glanced at her members. “you made five different plans on how to get me and meg together?” she demanded incredulously.

lara smiled sheepishly. “yeah..”
