Chapter 150
That evening, Jennie Kim and Lalisa Manobal genuinely thought the dangerous questions were over.
Ruby was in her pajamas.
Her ducky plushie was tucked under one arm.
Jennie was peacefully brushing her fluffy hair while Lisa read bedtime stories beside them.
Everything felt calm.
Safe.
Then Ruby suddenly asked:
“So… how was the giving birth to me?!”
Jennie froze mid-brush.
Lisa slowly lowered the storybook.
The room became silent.
Ruby blinked innocently. “What?”
Lisa immediately pointed at Jennie. “Your department.”
Jennie looked betrayed. “Why is it always my department?!”
“Because you’re the one who pushed out the dumpling!”
Ruby gasped loudly. “PUSHED OUT?!”
Jennie smacked Lisa with a pillow instantly.
“BABE!”
Ruby looked absolutely fascinated now.
“I came out like toothpaste?!”
Lisa fell backward laughing.
Jennie covered her face. “Oh my God…”
Ruby crawled closer dramatically. “Mommy. Tell me EVERYTHING.”
Jennie sighed in defeat while Lisa grinned like this was the best entertainment of her life.
“Well…” Jennie started carefully, “giving birth was hard work.”
Ruby’s eyes widened. “Like homework?”
Lisa snorted.
“Much harder than homework,” Jennie laughed softly. “You stayed in Mommy’s tummy until you were ready to come out.”
Ruby looked impressed with herself already.
“And when it was time,” Lisa added gently, “Mommy went to the hospital and the doctors helped bring you safely into the world.”
Ruby immediately hugged Jennie’s arm.
“Were you scared?”
Jennie’s expression softened instantly.
“A little,” she admitted honestly. “But Mama was with me the whole time.”
Lisa smiled softly at the memory and intertwined their fingers automatically.
“I never let go of Mommy’s hand,” Lisa said quietly.
Jennie laughed. “You almost broke mine though.”
“I was stressed!”
“You were panicking more than me!”
Ruby gasped. “Mama cried?”
Lisa looked offended. “I did NOT cry.”
Jennie stared at her flatly.
“You cried before we even entered the hospital.”
Ruby burst into squeaky laughter.
Lisa defended herself dramatically. “Because Mommy was in pain! And I couldn’t do anything except hold her hand and cry emotionally!”
Jennie smiled fondly. “She kept telling me I was doing amazing every five seconds.”
“Because you WERE.”
Ruby’s tiny face softened.
Then she whispered, “Did it hurt?”
Jennie gently tapped Ruby’s nose. “A little. But the moment I saw you, I forgot about everything else.”
Ruby immediately melted.
“Awww…”
Lisa leaned closer dramatically. “And then the doctor handed us the angriest dumpling ever.”
Ruby blinked. “Angry?”
Jennie nodded while laughing. “You came out glaring.”
“You didn’t cry right away,” Lisa added proudly. “You looked annoyed first.”
Ruby looked delighted. “Like Mommy!”
“Exactly like Mommy,” Lisa confirmed.
Jennie rolled her eyes fondly. “Apparently our daughter inherited my attitude before she even opened her eyes.”
Ruby climbed fully into Jennie’s lap now, completely invested.
“What did I look like?”
Jennie smiled softly at the memory.
“So tiny,” she whispered. “Tiny fingers. Tiny nose. Puffy cheeks.”
“And fluffy hair already,” Lisa added. “We were shocked.”
Ruby gasped proudly. “I was born fabulous.”
“You were born expensive,” Jennie corrected.
Lisa nodded immediately. “Hospital bill was terrifying.”
Jennie laughed so hard she almost dropped the hairbrush.
Ruby looked horrified. “Mama!”
“What? You were premium quality.”
Ruby crossed her arms dramatically before asking another question.
“Who held me first?”
Lisa instantly pointed at Jennie. “Mommy.”
Jennie’s eyes softened again.
“They placed you on my chest,” she whispered. “And you stopped crying the moment you heard my voice.”
Ruby looked emotional immediately.
“I knew Mommy already…”
Jennie kissed her forehead gently. “You always did.”
Lisa wrapped both of them in a giant hug from behind.
“And then Mommy cried,” Lisa teased softly.
Jennie gasped. “You cried harder!”
“Because both my girls were finally together.”
Ruby suddenly turned around and hugged Lisa too, squishing both her parents tightly with all her tiny strength.
“Thank you for making me,” she mumbled sleepily.
Jennie and Lisa both melted instantly.
Then Ruby looked up again with one final terrifying question.
“So if I was pushed out…”
Jennie narrowed her eyes immediately. “Ruby.”
“…could Mochi fit in there too?”
Lisa collapsed face-first into the bed laughing while Jennie screamed-
“ABSOLUTELY NOT!”
