Chapter 46

The lights of the arena glowed like stars, cameras flashing from every angle. Dani smoothed down her outfit – a sleek silver mini dress, with shiny accents, paired with strappy heels that made her legs look endless. Her hair was styled in loose curls, her makeup sharp, but soft enough to let her smile shine. She felt powerful, but underneath it all, her stomach was a knot of nerves.

The girls were buzzing beside her. Sophia kept adjusting her earrings, Lara was humming under her breath, Megan was cracking jokes to calm everyone down, Yoonchae and Manon were whispering excitedly about who they might see in the audience.

“Can you believe we’re here?” Sophia whispered, eyes wide.

Dani grinned, though her heart was racing. “Feels unreal.”

They’d already performed earlier in the night – Gnarly and Gabriela – and the adrenaline still lingered in Dani’s veins. But now came the moment they’d all been waiting for: Push Performance of the Year award. Their MTV Push showcase of Touch had been nominated, and though Dani tried to act calm, her hands kept fidgeting in her lap.

*

Back at home, you sat curled up on the couch, blanket wrapped around you, snacks on the coffee table. The VMA’s played on the TV, the stage glowing, celebrities scattered across the audience. You’d been waiting all night for this moment, heart pounding every time Katseye appeared on screen.

When their performance aired earlier, you had sung along, eyes glued to Dani’s dancing, smiling at every move. Now, as the Push Performance of the Year category came up, you sat forward, blanket forgotten, hands clasped tight.

“Come on, girls,” you whispered to yourself, bouncing your leg nervously.

*

The category was announced, the nominees flashing across the screen. Dani’s heart hammered in her chest. She glanced at the girls – Sophia biting her lip, Lara squeezing her hand, Megan whispering, “Whatever happens, we’re proud.”

Then Ice Spice and Latto walked out, the crowd roaring. Dani’s breath caught. She barely heard their banter, her ears ringing with anticipation.

“And the VMA for Push Performance of the Year goes to…” Ice Spice paused, grinning. “Katseye – Touch!”

The arena erupted. Dani froze, her jaw dropping, before laughter and tears spilled all at once. The girls screamed, hugging each other, clutching hands. Megan was crying, Sophia was squealing, Manon was shouting, “We did it!”

Dani’s chest felt like it might burst. She stood, heels clicking against the floor, her smile so wide it hurt. “Oh my god,” she whispered, tears pricking her eyes. “We actually won.”

*

You jumped up from the couch, blanket flying to the floor. “YES!” You shouted, clapping your hands, grinning so wide your cheeks hurt. You bounced on your toes, laughing, tears welling up as you watched the girls hug and scream on screen.

“There she is,” you whispered, eyes glued to Dani as she walked toward the stage, her smile radiant, her eyes shining. You felt your chest swell with pride, your heart racing. “That’s my girl.”

You watched as the girls climbed on stage, Dani clutching Manon’s hand, Megan wiping her eyes, Sophia waving to the crowd. The Moon Person trophy gleamed in the spotlight as it was handed to them.

*

The lights were blinding, the cheers deafening. Dani held the trophy with trembling hands, her smile unstoppable. Lara spoke first, voice breaking as she thanked the fans, the team, their families. Sophia added a few words, Manon cracked a quick joke that made the crowd laugh.

Dani’s turn came. She leaned into the mic, her voice steady despite the tears in her eyes/ “We’re just normal girls who love music. This means everything to us. Thank you to everyone who believed in us, who gave us a chance. This is for the EYEKONS, for our families, for everyone who’s been with us from the start.”

Her voice wavered, but she smiled through it, clutching the trophy tighter. The girls huddled together, waving as the crowd roared, before being led offstage.

The green room was chaos – hugs, cheers, flashes of cameras. Dani’s heart was still racing, her hands shaking as she clutched the trophy. Megan was crying again, Lara was speechless, Manon was laughing so hard she nearly dropped her phone.

Dani slipped away for a moment, her grin wide, her chest aching with joy. She pulled out her phone, dialling instantly.

*

Your phone buzzed. You grabbed it, heart leaping when Dani’s name flashed across the screen. You answered instantly.

Dani’s face filled the screen, cheeks flushed, eyes shining, her grin unstoppable. “We won!” She shouted, laughing breathlessly. “Y/N, we actually won!”

You laughed, tears spilling down your cheeks. “I saw! Oh my god, Dani, I’m so proud of you!”

Dani held up the trophy to the camera, her hands still trembling. “Look at it! It’s ours!”

You clapped your hands, bouncing on the couch. “You look so happy. I wish I was there.”

“You are,” Dani whispered, her grin softening. “You’re always with me. “I thought of you the whole time.”

Your chest tightened, your smile breaking into tears. “God I love you.”

“I love you too,” Dani said, her voice breaking. “Tonight, we celebrate.”

For Dani, the night was chaos and magic, lights and tears, laughter and disbelief. For you, it was pride and joy, watching from miles away but feeling every heartbeat.

The Moon Person trophy gleamed, but the real victory was the love that carried you through – from the stage to the couch, from the spotlight to the screen.
