Chapter 19

You and Dani walked back into the studio just before noon the next day – sunglasses on, matching iced coffees in hand, and the kind of guilty glow that made it very obvious you hadn’t just spent the night sleeping.

Sophia looked up from her laptop with a smirk. “Wow. Look who finally decided to show up.”

Megan snorted into her water bottle.

Yoonchae raised a brow. “Yeah? Did the mix involve turning all the lights off and disappearing into the vocal booth?”

You froze.

Dani’s jaw tightened. “…What?”

Lara swivelled her chair around, holding up a USB stick. “I came in this morning to check your booth stems. Turns out someone forgot to stop the recording.”

Your stomach dropped.

Dani looked visibly paler. “No.”

“Yes,” Lara said, grinning like the Cheshire Cat. “And the last fifteen minutes of audio? Not exactly… musical.”

The girls had already pulled up the files. Of course they had. You should’ve known.

Sophia hit play before either of you could stop her.

“Mmm… Dani…”

You lunged across the desk. “NOPE-“

Too late.

The room erupted. Megan wheezed, half-choking on her gum. Manon doubled over with laughter. Yoonchae shrieked and rolled off the bean bag. Lara looked like she was hearing a dirty podcast and loving every second.

Even Dani, eyes wide, clearly flustered, let out a low groan.

“Stop. Stop. Stop,” she muttered, her face in her hands.

Sophia paused the track but smirked. “Honestly? 10/10 vocal projection. You ever thought about background vocals, babe?”

You turned beet red. “I will actually walk into the ocean.”

The jokes came in waves all day.

Lara labelled the booth ‘DANGER ZONE’ with a sticky note.

Megan set Dani’s ringtone to a very suspicious breathy loop.

Yoonchae asked you with a straight face: “So how’s the reverb on your moaning? We can adjust levels.”

Even Manon got in on it, patting Dani’s shoulder with mock sympathy. “At least you didn’t say anything too incriminating. Although… we did hear someone say ‘I want you everywhere.'”

Dani looked at you. “I hate everyone.”

You leaned in and whispered, “Still worth it though?”

Her look said: So worth it.

Later that afternoon, the girls were still giggling when Jennie from BLACKPINK dropped by to visit the studio for the collab track.

Jennie blinked, immediately picking up the tension.

“Okay… what did I walk in on?”

“Literally?” Lara grinned. “Nothing. But figuratively? A booth confession.”

Sophia pulled Jennie aside to explain – quietly but with great joy. Jennie blinked, laughed, and then turned to you and Dani with a sly smile.

“I didn’t know you two did audio performances. That’s new.”

You hid behind a speaker. Dani fake-fainted against the piano.

That night when it was just you two again – back in the booth, this time for actual work – Dani sat beside you on the small bench.

“Should we record a new version?” you teased.

She leaned in, brushing her lips across your jaw. “Let’s leave them something really memorable next time.”

And when the red light on the booth blinked again…

Well.

Let’s just say, no one accidentally forgot to stop the recording.
