Chapter 19

I didn’t know that the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’ can be so nerve wrecking. And I didn’t know that asking someone out can be as well. I imagined those people who proposed to their loved ones, thinking that what I’m feeling right now is similar to what they felt when they proposed to their loved one.

Lucy was staring at me with her mouth slightly open and this caused me to babble and look away. “I mean, I don’t want you to go home and sleep with a frown on your face, and you look beautiful today and I know you took your time getting ready and I don’t want your efforts to go to waste-

“Amber-“

“And like I said, you’ve been looking forward to this date-“

“Amb-“

“And I know you’re expecting someone else and I’m not that great-“

“AMBER!”

“But I hope you consider me?” I wet my lips and gulped, gasping for air.

“Do you always babble when you’re nervous?” She observed while I nodded my head vigorously. “Actually, when I saw you sitting there, I wished it was you. I wished it was you that I have a date with. And you know what, Amber? I never stopped liking you,”

My eyes snapped to hers, feeling butterflies in my stomach. “Oh…”

“So my answer to your question is yes. I would totally definitely love to go on a date with you,” She smiled, eyes glistening and that made my nerves go away.

I returned her smile with a beam on my face. Finally understanding the happy feeling when people say yes to the question. I stood up, stretching out my hand for her to grab which she did.

Oh how I’ve missed her touch.

As she stood up, I started checking her outfit. She was wearing a white laced off shoulder crop top that matched her khaki high wasted pants, her wavy hair was down, and her make up was only mascara, blush, and gloss. She looks more beautiful every time I see her.

I felt eyes were on me and I saw her watching me with her raised eyebrows. I coughed and said, “I wasn’t staring. There’s um… dust on your pants,” I pointed to her legs and dusted her pants. “There. All gone,”

A chuckle escaped her lips, her dimples were showing and I just wanted to poke them. “You done?”

“Yup! It’s clean now, good as new.” I rocked my feet back and forth. “Have I told you that you look beautiful today?”

“Just today?”

“No, no. I meant that you look beautiful everyday and today you also look beautiful, and I asked if I told you already that you look beauti-“

Lucy eyes lit up as she flashed me a dashing grin. Then I realized that she was teasing me again. “You did say it already,”

“Oh. Well then let me tell you again. You look beautiful.” I smiled sheepishly.

“Thank you. You look beautiful as well, as always,”

I felt my cheeks turn red. We got out of the coffee shop, our fingers intertwined . My eyes caught Lexi and Kayla who were spying on us. I sent a ‘wtf’ look their way, they gave me a thumbs up in return. Lucy followed my eyes and before she sees them, the couple managed to duck behind the fountain.

“What are you looking at?” She asked.

“Huh, me? I- I was checking that that… That fountain!”

“You’re checking the fountain.” She clicked her tongue.

“You got that right. I think it’s wonderful to have a fountain in my room,” I facepalmed myself mentally. Saying a bunch of bullshit to embarrass myself even more.

“Why would you want a fountain in your room?” She looked at me like I was crazy.

“Who wouldn’t want a fountain in their room?”

“Uh… No one, Amber.”

You go, Amber!

Right…

We got in my car, helping her to put her seat belt on, because it was a little broken and needed a tug. “So where to?”

“I thought you had a plan,”

“I… do…

“Then why are you asking me?”

Don’t. I don’t have a plan,” I chewed on my lips, pondering where we should go.

“You asked me out and didn’t plan on where you we’re taking me?” She teased.

“It was on the spot, okay? Now let me think for a second,” I was thinking of taking her to this cool place, but I wasn’t sure if she would like it. Maybe she’s more of a shopping girl since they were going to meet up in the mall.

“Why don’t we just go to my house and do something fun?” She shot me a sultry smirk, eyes filled with mischief.

I leaned closer as her eyes grew wider. “You know what?”

Her head went closer to mine, ears and eyes were focused on me. “Yeah?”

“That’s actually…” I stared at her lips for a second and her eyebrows rose higher. “A bad idea,” I pulled back with a proud smile on my face while her face dropped.

“Amber, you will be the death of me one day.” She leaned her head on the head rest and closed her eyes, sighing.

“Isn’t it nice to know how you’ll die?”

“If you’re gonna kill me with your love, then it would be an honor to be killed by you,”

I turned my face away from her so she wouldn’t see the blush appearing on my cheeks and the smile that I was trying to stop. After that, I kept my face straight and glanced at her. “There’s no feelings for you other than hatred,”

“Why did you ask me again? Oh right, cause you feel bad that my date didn’t show up and that shows that you care. You don’t care when you hate someone,”

“Yeah yeah yeah, whatever, let’s just go,” I put the transmission to drive and we left the parking lot.

Today was going well so far. I thought that I’ll have another boring day, but I’m happy that I listened to Lexi and Kayla and went to the mall. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have gotten my chance with this girl.

When the traffic light turned red, I texted Kayla about where should I take Lucy. My mind was blank and I couldn’t think of a perfect place. I was nervous and not knowing where to take her made it worse.

Seconds after, she replied the same place I wanted to take her. Looks like this day would be one of the best days I’ll have.

My phone buzzed again, checking to see if Kayla added something.

After I sent that text, I was bombarded by some amazing words that started with ‘F’ and one started with ‘B’.

Who would’ve thought that my choice was the best place to take her. My first guess was right all along. My mind was finally at peace and it felt good. The light turned green and I picked up the speed.

“Already thought of a plan?” Lucy spoke. I smiled, thinking how happy she would be when she finds out. “What’s that smile for?”

“Oh nothing. It’s just that, you’re gonna love where I’m taking you,”

“And where is that?”

“It’s a surprise,”

“Wherever you’re gonna take me, I’m sure I’m gonna love it,” She gave me a heart-stopping smile

I matched her smile with mine, catching her eyes flicker to my lips and her eyes softened. “You will love this place. Anyway, where were you guys planning to go?”

She puffed out a breath. “The mall. She told me she just wanted to chill and talk, which was fine with me. But I wanna have fun,”

“Don’t worry, you’re gonna have fun today,” I said, grinning.

“I’m already having fun,”

“Then you’re gonna have more fun when we get to our destination,”

The car ride was filled with silence and no one spoke after that. I focused on the road, just taking my time. I didn’t want to rush, cause it’s just 3 PM and we were enjoying the ride.

The sun was blazing on us, as I put down the sun visor while Lucy wore her sunglasses. Not for long, she started to speak.

“What happened to your date with Ivans?”

Ooh, someone seems interested. You might get jealous,” I teased.

“Can’t I ask? Besides, we’re on a date. We’re supposed to ask stuff and talk about stuff,” I mean she’s right.

“Don’t deny that you’re jealous,”

“I’m not denying anything, Amber. Tell me what happened,” She demanded.

I heaved a sigh. “It was good. I enjoyed our time and then his sister showed up and we talked about stuff. We went roller skating and he thought I couldn’t skate, but he’s the one who can’t.” I left out the part where I fell cause that’s embarrassing and she would’ve laughed if I told her.

“Glad you enjoyed.” There was a hint of bitterness in her voice.

I gave her a quick look and chuckled. “Is that jealousy I hear?”

“No,” She denied.

“That word suits you! Maybe I should I start calling you that. ‘Jea-Lucy’. Pretty good, isn’t it,” I laughed at my own pun. She glared at me, flicking my ear. It hurt a bit, but she was also fun to tease.

“I’m not jealous!” She gritted her teeth.

Sure,

Amber! I’m serious!” She hissed.

I raised my hand, forfeiting this argument. “I heard you. And even if you were, just think about this. You’re on a date with me now, right?”

That kept her mouth shut, making my lips form into a smirk. Within a minute of silence, Lucy spoke.

“Fine, I was jealous,” She muttered under her breath, fumbling with her hands. I snorted and this caused her to snap her attention to me. “But not jealous jealous! Just a little. Tiny. Very tiny,”

“Alright, Lucy. I got it,”

“Why are you smiling still?”

“What’s wrong with smiling?”

“Stop smiling!”

“Don’t you wanna see my beautiful smile that can make anyone melt?” I grinned at her and that earned me an eye roll. “Come on, let me see that smile of yours too,”

She looked me dead in the eyes as I wiggled my eyebrows. That made her break a smile but then bit her lips to stop it. “Stop it!”

What? I want to smile. Let me be,”

“I shouldn’t have said yes to this date,” she complained.

“But you wanted this, right? You said you were wishing for it. Come on, I’ve been dying to see your smile,” I flashed her a toothy grin.

“I hate you!” She rolled her eyes but a smile appeared on her face.

“I doubt. See, that wasn’t so bad, huh? There’s that smile,”

“Whatever. And are we there yet?” She crossed her arms, looking out the window so I wouldn’t see her blushing. But I did. And it was cute.

“Not yet. Although we’re almost there- oh, there it is!” I pointed at the place that’s a few meters away from us.

Her jaw dropped, removing her sunglasses to see clearly. “No freaking way!”
