Chapter 13

Sienna had been to countless basketball games before, but something about tonight’s game had her heart racing in a way she couldn’t explain. Caitlin was on fire, weaving through defenders like they were nothing more than practice dummies. Every shot she took seemed effortless, and each time the ball swooshed through the net, the crowd roared in admiration.

Sienna watched, completely enthralled, as Caitlin went head-to-head with Nika Mühl, the Croatian point guard she had met earlier. Nika was a defensive menace, quick on her feet and relentless in her pursuit, but no matter how hard she tried, Caitlin always found a way past her. Their one-on-one battle was intense, their movements sharp and calculated. But it wasn’t just the game that had Sienna’s attention.

Something else was happening between them.

Sienna noticed the way they stood too close to each other, the subtle tension that crackled in the air like an impending storm. She saw the way Caitlin’s jaw clenched, the way her fists tightened at her sides. And then there was Nika-smirking like she knew exactly what she was doing.

And then, Nika looked straight at her.

Sienna’s breath hitched as Nika sent her a playful wink, her smirk growing wider. As if on cue, Caitlin’s gaze followed Nika’s, landing on Sienna. The second their eyes met, Sienna saw it-the jealousy burning behind Caitlin’s hazel eyes. But just as quickly as it appeared, Caitlin looked away, breaking the connection and turning her attention elsewhere.

Sienna followed her line of sight and spotted Caitlin standing beside a tall woman who she assumed was Katie Lou Samuelson. A nudge at her side snapped her out of her thoughts. She turned to see Camden watching her with a cocky smirk.

“Damn, Cupcake,” Camden drawled, his voice dripping with amusement. “Looks like you’ve got two beautiful women fighting over you. My bet is Caitlin’s gonna snap first and do something she shouldn’t do.”

Sienna scoffed, rolling her eyes. “As if they like me. I mean, come on, Cam. I’m not for the girls. And besides, Clark is just a friend.”

Camden tsked, shaking his head. “Denial is a river in Egypt, babe.”

Sienna huffed, turning back to the game. But try as she might, she couldn’t focus. Camden’s words echoed in her mind, mixing with the burning intensity of Caitlin’s glances. They made eye contact more than once throughout the rest of the game, but each time, Caitlin looked away almost instantly.

Suddenly, Sienna felt unbearably hot. Her skin tingled with something she couldn’t name, shifting uncomfortably in her seat. It was those damn hazel eyes. The way Caitlin looked at her always made her squirm.

When the final buzzer rang, signaling Indiana’s victory over Seattle, Sienna shot up from her seat, muttering something about needing the restroom. She needed a moment away from all of this-from Caitlin, from Nika, from whatever was happening.

Finding the restroom, she rushed inside, heading straight for the sink. Turning the faucet on, she splashed cold water against her face, hoping to cool the heat coursing through her veins. Her heart was still hammering when she heard the restroom door open and close behind someone.

Then, the click of the lock echoed through the room.

Sienna froze.

Slowly, she turned off the tap and lifted her head to look in the mirror. And there she was.

Caitlin.

But this wasn’t the Caitlin she was used to. This Caitlin’s hazel eyes burned with something dark-anger, jealousy, maybe even hurt.

Sienna swallowed hard before breaking the silence. “Caitlin, what are you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be showering or heading home or something?” She rolled her eyes, trying to sound nonchalant, but her voice came out weaker than she intended.

Caitlin didn’t answer. Instead, she took slow, deliberate steps forward, closing the distance between them like a predator stalking its prey. Sienna’s back hit the cool tile wall, her breath catching as Caitlin stopped mere inches away.

Too close. Way too close.

Caitlin raised her arms, caging Sienna in against the wall, palms resting on either side of her head. The air between them grew thick, charged. Sienna could barely think past the pounding of her heart.

And then Caitlin spoke, her voice hard, edged with something Sienna had never heard before.

“Do you like Nika, Sunshine?”

Sienna swallowed hard, her mind racing, as she stared into Caitlin’s intense gaze.

Fuck. I’m doomed. She thought to
herself.
