Chapter 32
Save Haven
Clarissa PoV:
When we entered our room it was late at night. Leonora headed directly for the bed, falling into it face first. “Don’t you wanna change out of your clothes first sweetheart?” “Too tired…” she mumbled against the soft blanket, not even moving her head to look at me. I chuckled, putting down my stuff before going to the closet, grabbing a fresh shirt for both herself and Leonora.
“C’mon, sit up for me please.” “Noooo…” Standing there, I took a few pictures before I sighed. “Guess no cuddles then for you.” Faster then I had thought, she sat up, looking at me with her puppy eyes. “That is mean. You can’t do that.” “As you can see I can and I will if that means I get what I want. Now be so nice and lift your arms.”
Together, we changed into the fresh clothes before we crawled under the blanket. It didn’t take long for her to cuddle right up to me, her face hidden in my neck. “Now you can sleep, Nora.” I gave her head a soft kiss, sighing at the feeling of her locks against my skin.
“Love you…” she whispered tiredly, accompanied by a yawn, before her eyes fell completely shut and she was out. “I love you too, my sweet little girl.” But other than her, I couldn’t fall asleep. At least not yet. The evening kept replaying in my head, showing me her face over and over again and how excited she seemed about all this. It made me realise just how normale this all had become for me.
Closing me eyes, I sighed, pulling her closer to my body. Maybe they all had a bit truth to their words. This was the first time since forever that I took vacation and it’s purpose wasn’t for work or anything else. She had changed me, to the better. If only everyone could understand this.
The night passed by and soon we had almost 5 AM. Rubbing my eyes, I carefully snook out of her embrace and walked over to the window, looking out. It didn’t take long though for her to notice that I was missing and soon, she stood next to me, her head leaned against my shoulder and her arms wrapped around my waist.
“Why are you up so early?” she asked, her voice showing that she was still, in fact, very sleepy. “I… haven’t slept yet. To much on my mind.” Her hand grabbed my chin softly, turning my head towards her. “Why didn’t you wake me?” “You looked so cute while sleeping, I couldn’t disturb you.” I smiled as her cheeks turned slightly pink and she had to look to the side for a moment.
“Well, then we should head back to bed. You need sleep, grandma.” Before I could even say something, she carefully pulled me closer and gave me a kiss, her hand still holding my cheek. As we parted, I rolled my eyes, shoving her towards the bed. “Don’t think I just missed that you called me grandma.”
Acting all innocent, she pulled me with her towards the bed, pushing me down on the soft mattrest. I chuckled, holding my arms open for her to crawl into. “Cuddles with my old girlfriend.” “Your old girlfriend will do some unspeakable things to you if you don’t stop calling her that.” Once more, her cheeks flushed and she hid her face in my chest.
“That’s what I thought.” Ruffling her hair, I felt how I got more and more tired. She made me feel safe. She always managed to calm me down. She was my safe haven for everything and I was glad that I had met her.
Even though Leonora had already several hours of sleep, we both only woke up way later into the day. And if she would be in charge, we could have slept until it was dark out again.
“Seems like the fly has effected you a bit, hm?” “I don’t know, but I could sleep like two more days.” I chuckled and ruffled her hair before grabbing a fistfull to pull her closer to me. “But then you would miss all the amazing things I want to show my beautiful girlfriend. Do you realy think sleep is more important than that?”
Her cheeks and nose got that cute pink and red shade, her lips lightly parted in a quiet gasp. “N-No…” “That’s what I thought.” Leaning in, I kissed her, my hand untangling from her hair before I slowly stood up, leaving her sitting on the bed as I walked over ionto the bathroom.
We spent the day walking through the city, going into every shop that seemed to peak her interest. Let’s just say we bought quite a bit that day. Mostly stuff for her cats of course, but a few cute and also silly things for herself. I also bought something, but that was more a surprise for later in the bedroom.
We stopped by a little café and sat down. I called our driver and he came by, picking up everything that we had bought, bringing it away so that we wouldn’t have to keep carrying it around.
“I feel like we already did everything we could do here just today,” she mumbled, stirring her coffee, “what will we do the rest of our vacation?” “Do not worry about that, my Dear, I have enough things in mind we haven’t done yet. You won’t get bored here, trust me.” I gave her a small smile, to which she nodded.
“Alright. And what do we do now? I am kind of getting tired from walking around.” “You always have the option to go back. We could cuddle back into back and just watch movies for the rest of the day.” That seemed to sprak an idea in her mind. And telling by the looks on her face, I probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much as she would.
“What have you got in mind you little raccoon?” “Horror movies.” I sighed and looked down, shaking my head. “Please! Please, please, please, please, please.” She gave me her puppy eyes, but I still didn’t give in.
“I will scream.” “We both know you wouldn’t. You hate attention, so don’t try to threaten me with acting like a little child.” Watching her huff like a little child was amusing. “Well… Well then I’ll just go.” “You would be lost in like… lets’s say five minutes, my Dear.” Once more, she huffed.
“Can’t we just watch one?” I looked at her pleading face and rolled my eyes. “But you own me after that. And I mean a real show.” She blushed, knowing completely what I wanted to tell her with that and nodded. “You, you can have a show.” “Good… Good girl. Now c’mon, finish your coffee so we can head back.” And so we did.
The rest of the vacation passed by quickly, t least it felt like it, but left us with enough new and happy memories.
“I am honest with you, I don’t wanna go back. Ever.” “But what about your friends?” She sat on the bed before me. Today was the last day here, tomorrow we would go back to the airport to fly back to Detroit. “I think they would understand. And also, we could visit them sometime. After all they want us to be happy.”
She turned around to face me, a small smile on her lips. “And your cats?” “We would defenitly have to get them. There is no debate about that.” We both started laughing and I sighed, leaning back against the head rest of the bed.
“You know how many times I had thought about this before I met you?” Her eyes found mine, reminding me just how lucky I got with her. “Staying and never going back?” I nodded slowly, letting my gaze fly to the outside of the window, admiring the scenery as the sun slowly went down, giving everything a nice red and golden color.
“I hate the big cities, always have. And all these vacations in these perfect countries, lord… But everytime I found myself back in Detroit, covered in work and questioning why I even kept doing this. I mean, it’s not really for the money anymore.” She chuckled, crawling next to me, her head leaning against my shoulder.
“For what then?” “I guess the enviroment. After all we are trying our best to help get rid of the atomic waste.” Her hand grabbed mine and she started to play with my fingers. Whatever it was, it helped me calm down and get my head out of my thoughts and back to here and now.
“Maybe one day we can just go and never return,” she whispered after a few minutes of silence, not looking at me but straight ahead. “Telling everyone we are going on vacation and just vanish. With my cats of course.” “Could you really do that? Leave everything behind just like that?” The silence returned, before she sat up, turning her head to face me.
“For you? Yes. For a peacefuly life with you and my cats? Yes. No doubts. I mean, I would probably tell those three idiots so they wouldn’t worry to much, but the rest of the world can go ahead and miss me. As long as I have you by my side I don’t really care.”
Something inside of me started crying at her words. Compared to everyone else, she really was the one I had been waiting for for so long now. “The real question is, if you could do that.” My eyes trailed down to my hands and I sighed. It was like a fight inside of me, not able to decide what I should do in this situation.
One side wanted to stay in Detroit and keep working, bu on the other hand. It sounded so peaceful. So wonderful. A life away from work and stress and everything. No big cities, no cars, no rude people, no getting up early to get to work. Just her, me and her cats, going whereever we desire.
As I looked back up, I got greeted by her waiting face. No pressure to answer, but still a longing to get one. “I would. I… I could and I would, yes. For you.” The smile on her face was adorable and she scooped closer, cupping my face in her hands as she kissed me.
“One day…” she whispered against my lips, her hands not falling from my face, keeping me close to her. “One day…” I whsipered back, leaning in again to give her another kiss. It still felt like the very first time I had kissed her. And lord I never wanted it to end.
