Chapter 3

The rhythmic thud of basketballs echoed through Gainbridge Fieldhouse as the Indiana Fever prepared for their game against the Connecticut Sun. Caitlin Clark dribbled across the court with practiced ease, her focus unwavering as she sank yet another three-point shot. Her teammates were scattered, engaged in their warmups, but Caitlin felt she’d done enough.

Deciding to head to the locker room for a quick breather, she tucked the ball under her arm and made her way toward the tunnel. As she approached, she noticed a figure standing near the locker room entrance. The person, was petite and about 5’5″, appeared out of place among the towering athletes and bustling staff.

Curiosity piqued, Caitlin altered her path and walked toward the figure instead of going straight inside. When she got closer, her breath caught in her throat.

Emerald green eyes locked with her hazel ones, and for a moment, Caitlin forgot how to breathe. The woman standing there was stunning—more beautiful than any women Caitlin had ever seen. She had seen beautiful women before, but this one was different—captivating in a way that made her pulse quicken. Her golden-blonde hair fell in soft waves, framing a face that seemed almost ethereal.

Meanwhile, Sienna Callaway felt as if the ground had shifted beneath her feet. Seeing Caitlin Clark in person was nothing like the pictures. Damn, the photos don’t do this woman justice, she thought, her gaze shamelessly taking in Caitlin’s tall athletic frame, toned arms, and striking features. Oh my, she’s so hot. I wonder what she’ll look like in her Fever jersey… Stop it, Sienna. You have a boyfriend remember. Who loves you by the way. She mentally scolded herself.

Clearing her throat, Sienna forced herself to focus and looked up again. To her dismay—or delight—she was met with a cocky smirk from Caitlin.

“Well, hello, little lady,” Caitlin drawled, her voice low and teasing. “Are you lost? I could give you directions if you want. I don’t mind.”

Sienna rolled her eyes at the blatant flirtation but managed to keep her cool. Caitlin’s cockiness wasn’t going to throw her off her game. “Actually, Ms. Clark,” she began, her tone professional, “I’m with ESPN, and I’d like to interview you for an article. If you’re willing, I’d appreciate it.”

Caitlin raised an eyebrow, intrigued. Most media requests annoyed her—she hated how reporters twisted words or pried too deeply into her personal life. But something about this woman intrigued her, made her want to say yes.

Sure,” Caitlin said, her smirk softening into a genuine smile. “Let’s do the interview. But first, I didn’t quite catch your name.”

Sienna blinked, momentarily caught off guard by Caitlin’s unexpected agreement. She’d heard the player wasn’t fond of the media, yet here she was, agreeing without hesitation. Recovering quickly, she said, “Sienna Callaway. You can just call me Sienna.”

Caitlin repeated the name, testing it on her tongue. “Sienna,” she said, a small, almost reverent smile tugging at her lips. “Damn, that’s a beautiful name.”

The compliment made Sienna’s cheeks heat, but she quickly schooled her expression. For a moment, silence hung between them, a strange mixture of tension and curiosity. Finally, Sienna broke it, clearing her throat. “So, shall we start with the interview?”

Caitlin nodded, her smile still in place. “Yeah, let’s do it.”

The interview went smoothly, with Sienna asking well-prepared questions about Caitlin’s stats, her time at Iowa, her teammates, and her record-breaking NCAA career. her transition to the WNBA, and her chemistry with her Fever teammates. Caitlin answered thoughtfully, impressed by Sienna’s professionalism and genuine interest in her responses.

As the interview wrapped up, Sienna glanced at her notebook, satisfied with the responses. “Well, that’s all I need. Thanks for your time, Caitlin.” She closed her notebook and offered a polite smile. “Good luck with the game tonight. I hope the Fever wins.”

Caitlin grinned at her. “Thanks, Sienna.”

Sienna turned to leave, but before she could take more than a few steps, she felt a hand wrap around her wrist. Startled, she turned back to see Caitlin looking at her, a curious gleam in her hazel eyes.

“Will I ever see you again, Sienna?” Caitlin asked, her voice softer now. “At least let me get your number. Maybe we could hang out sometime.”

Sienna smirked, pulling her wrist free gently. “I don’t give my number out to strangers. And for the record, I have a boyfriend. Goodbye, Caitlin.”

With that being said, she turned on her heel, and walked away without a backward glance.

Caitlin stood there, speechless and blushing, her heart racing in a way it never had before. “Damn,” she muttered under her breath, running a hand through her hair. “What did this woman just do to me? I only just met her.”

For the first time in a long while, Caitlin found herself distracted from the game ahead. Sienna Callaway was going to be hard to forget.
