Chapter 15

Rangi woke to an empt bed, the sun was shining bright through the window as she got up. Scanning the room for any signs of the avatar or where she went off to. Her boots were no longer by the door, nor her fans on the dresser.

She didn’t think much of it as she got dressed, tossing her evening attire onto the desk, before leaving the room. Walking down she heard rattling from the other room. As she paused by a mirror she saw Kyoshi’s make up left beside it, Rangi just rolled her eyes.

“Kyoshi you can’t leave all your make up lying around or else-“

“Good morning to you too dear” Hei Ran said as she sat down at a table. “Sorry I thought you were Kyoshi, she left her makeup in the hall”

Hei ran just nodded going back to her tea. “Have you seen her today by any chance? I was hoping she would be willing to talk to the guy she caught again. See if he will tell us anymore today.” Rangi said, sitting down.

“I’m afraid I haven’t, she’s probably about in the training grounds.” She suggested. “Thanks” Rangi said as she left the room.

The sun was rising more overhead now as Rangi headed to the training grounds. When she got there they seemed to be untouched, unlike any other time Kyoshi had been training there.

“Jinpa, do you know where Kyoshi is?” Rangi asked as she jogged to catch up to the monk. “I haven’t seen her since I pulled her out of the library last night, did you lose her?” Jinpa jokes.

“Well no, she just got up before me and I don’t remember if she told me what she had going on today”

“Nothing that I’m aware of, no meetings of any sort were scheduled today.” He replied scanning a scroll. Rangi frowned, where was Kyoshi?

“Maybe try the library, I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s hiding out there” Jinpa suggested pointing to the building to their left. Rangi smiled, “Thanks, she was telling me about some of the research she was doing last night, I’m sure she went off to continue. She can’t put things like that down you know”

“Oh I’m well aware” Jinpa replied as Rangi headed off to the library.

Empty, again. Rangi rubbed her temple, thinking of where else she would have gone. She decided to return to the house, searching all the rooms. Even the closests, she was getting despite.

“Still no luck?” Her mother called from behind her. “No, it’s just so weird, there is no sign of her anywhere, and it’s not like she would go into town without somebody. She hates going into crowded places alone.” Rangi said , fidgeting with her fingers.

“I’m sure she’ll be back soon”

“Yeah I’m bet you’re right.” Rangi said, bending down to pick up the makeup Kyoshi had left beside the mirror. “I’ll be right back”

As she opened the door to the room she tossed the clothes she had left on the desk earlier onto the floor and set Kyoshi’s make up set down in its place.

She did find it odd though, they had a mirror right here. Why would she do it out in the hall? Maybe it had been too dark in the room, and she didn’t want to wake her up.

Then something caught her eye in the reflection, a tied up piece of parchment. As she picked it up she noticed her name was written on it in Kyoshi’s rushed handwriting.

Her eyes widened as she started to read.

Rangi,

I’m sorry i left without saying anything, but before you worry I assure you I am fine. I was extended an invitation by the spiritual group that had been causing destruction around town. They said that they require my assistance for some plan of theirs, with the man no longer talking I didn’t see how I had any choice. It’s my fault I let Yun get that far, and he must have inspired others to do the same. I don’t want anyone else to suffer because of my mistakes.

Rangi looked away for a second and she guaranteed she knew what was coming next.

I accepted it this morning and headed off to their desired meeting location. But Rangi please I beg of you don’t try and follow, by even sharing this much with you this whole plan might already be in jeopardy. I know I will be able to meet you at Yancheng’s meditation point on the other side of the valley in a week, there I can slip out and we can make a plan then on what to do next.

I promise I will be there. You just have to give me time. If anyone asks, just say I’m still unwell from the smoke of our past two encounters or something else. I don’t think they’ll even notice. You can have me doing horse stances dawn till dusk. Just please let me do this, I’ll learn more and get this all sorted out for good. So no one else will get hurt.

Kyoshi

It felt like she was frozen as she clutched onto the piece of paper tighter, to where she could have ripped it.

“Rangi have you- is everything alright?” Hei Ran asked as she walked into the room to find her daughter frozen in her place. As she approached her Rangi handed her the letter.

Hei Ran took a moment to read it before handing it back to Rangi. “Well I can’t say I’m surprised.”

“She didn’t tell me anything”

“It sounds like she was convinced that you would follow”

“She seemed worried last night, but I thought it was like any other night, what was she thinking?”

“That she had to do this on her own.” Hei Ran said calmly.

“Why aren’t you more concerned about this?” Rangi asked frantically.

“After reading what she wrote it sounds like for once she has a plan, and intends to follow through with it. I don’t think there is anything to be concerned about.”

“Yes but-” Rangi tried to find a way to protest, but her mother had a point.

“She has grown stronger since your first expedition together you know. I think she is fully capable of doing this on her own, and I think you know that too”

“Of course I do it’s just, I wish she wouldn’t do things like this”

“What am I supposed to do now?” Rangi asked quietly. “Now that my job has been suspended for a week”

She has one job. One job. And she failed. Her only job is to protect the Avatar, and now she’s Rava only knows where. Doing something Rangi prays isn’t utterly illegal or dangerous.

Rangi made a point to send a note to Jinpa asking to meet with him, and plans on filling him in. Lunch with Jinpa was irritatingly similar to the one Rangi had with her mother earlier. More less repeating the same message.

“I know your going to worry about her, and maybe even blame yourself for letting her leave to do something we are all so unsure about” Jinpa began. ” Belive when we first started working together it was even more chaotic, ever letter that came in there was immediate action, that was rash and very very poorly thought out.”

“I guess, but still she did she tell you anything, did she tell anyone?” Rangi argued.

“It sounded like she was acually taking some precautions for once”

“Precautions, what do you mean precautions? She just left to go infiltrate a spirit cult gathering thing without any warning.”

“She knew that you would follow-“

“That’s still no excuse” Rangi interrupted. “Rangi we both know that no matter what she told you, no matter what kind of deal she would try and arrange if she told you before hand you would have left at the drop of a hat.”

“You sound like my mother”

“Maybe but you know I’m right”

“You’re pretty irritating for a monk sometimes” Rangi said sarcastically, Jinpa only laughed.

“Now you sound like Kyoshi” He added.

The two continued talking about nonsense for the remander of the afternoon. It was a nice break for Rangi, but the fact that Kyoshi was Rava only knows where still stalled restlessly in the back of here brain.

As she headed abck to the house Rangi made a sudden change in directions heading towards th holing cells. If Kyoshi was out working on the issue then so could she. She would support however she could from here. Doing whatever she could, its not like she had anything better to do.

“Avatar Kysohi tired of talking to a wall” On of the guards asked as she approached the cell. “Yeah, she had other things to attend to” Rangi reopened as the door opened.

“Oh good afternoon, or moring. What ever time it may be. It’s not like they tell what time it is down here!” The man sudden yelled as she entered the room. “Joyful as always.” Rangi replied under her breathe, taking a seat across deform the man.

“You seem bitter today”

“More bitter than usal that is” The man grinned. Rangi took a breathe, and began to ask him about the last bigger scene that was caused when the group had set a building ablaze. She had atleast got him to admit to that. But know he was talking in circles, and it was getting on Rangi’s last nerve.

“I prefer to speak with the Avatar I enjoy my chats with her much better”

“To bad, you’re stuck with me for the time being. She has better things to do” Rangi shot.

“What exactly?”

“I dont seem how it would concern you”

“It does a little bit, is that why your so sour? You’re her big strong body guard aren’t you? So where is she?”

“As I said it doesn’t concern you” Rangi felt her breath growing hot.

“Some job your doing then. Anyways if thats all you come here to say I think I’ll just stuck to my talks with her. I belive we had a great conversation this moring. I was hoping she would come back to continue it. But I guess she just got board.” He said lazily.

“Bullshit”

“How so?”

The two stared at eachother for what Rangi thought was an eternity.

“You know more than you lead on, so why lie about it here in your conditons?” Rangi began.

He just shrugged. “Maybe I do know more, but do you? I dont think you know anything”

“I know more than you”

“Only one of us knows where she is and I have a pretty good guess which one of it is” He nearrowed his gaze, grinning slightly. “The only question left is how badly do you want to know”

“I don’t need this now” Rangi said getting up. “Have fun being jobless in your mess of chaos” He called form behind her.

“I have everything under control.”

“You do?”

“Yes, I know everything I need to, and I know see that coming here was just a waste of time.”

“For one of us yes”

“Ugh” Rangi shut the door probably harder than she should have, as she left

She began to stomp off the grounds, what did he mean he knew more. She pondered on that statement, then it clicked. Within a minute she was back at the cells plowing through the door.

“IT WAS YOU THEN WASN’T IT?” She accused him slamming her fists on the table. “Still bitter?”

“QUITE WITH THE BULL SHIT THIS WAS ALL YOUR DOING WASNT IT” Rangi yelled, the man only laughed. “I guess you do know a bit more, but your pride finally got in your way.

“YOU WILL BE DEALT WITH PROPERLY I WILL BE SURE OF IT” The man looked unimpressed at her words.
“I dont see how I’m the problem anymore” He said guesterning around the room. “But I think you are”

Rangi’s was ready to burn the place down when some guards came though the door. Without being given the chance to offer a rebuttal, she was told she being summoned to the palace to discuss the intrusion, something she had completely forgotten about.

“You alright lieutenant?” One of the men asked handing her the scroll, with meeting notes. ” Perfectly” She gritted between her teeth. She had fucked up, she didn’t know how yet but something was wrong.

I promise to return to Kyoshi’s pov soon. But for the time being, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I feel bad for leaving y’all for so long, so I’m going to try and do two more updates this month, hopefully
