Chapter 31
After my moment with my mom, I hurriedly called Lucy, jumping up and down on the bed while I waited for her to pick up. Once she did, I let myself drop on the mattress and I bumped my head on the headboard. I heard a witchy laugh on the other line, Lucy obviously finding my pain amusing. Lena ended up talking to me on the phone while her big sister was still laughing her cute ass off. I also invited Lena if she wanted to come and she was happy to go as well.
Waking up at 4 am was a bit too much for me, but I had to find something nice to wear. After all, today was also Valentine’s Day. I’m sure Lucy will be dressing up nice and I don’t want to look like a deformed potato beside her.
I created a pile of clothes on the floor as I threw each piece of clothing that I have, settling on the white sweater and brown jumper shorts I found under the closet. I also found some dresses that I barely wear and thought of wearing one, but the sweater seemed like a better idea than the dress.
I picked them up at their house and saw them waiting for me patiently on the front porch. The 2 girls were wearing black dresses with matching sunglasses. Lucy’s hair was curled while Lena’s blonde hair was tied into a ponytail.
“Where’s the funeral at, girls?” I snorted at my joke, opening the door for Lucy while Lena opened the back door.
“Yours, if you don’t give me a kiss,” She leaned closer to me, closing the gap between us.
“Why did I even come along?” Lena muttered with a grimace plastered on her face.
“Lu-” I tried pulling myself away from Lucy but she has her hands on my cheeks.
“I don’t know. Why did you?” Her sister said between our kiss.
“You guys are gross!”
I pulled away from Lucy, sending Lena a sheepish look, “Sorry, Pet. Won’t happen again,”
Lucy turned to me with a scowl, narrowing her eyes. “Follow her and you won’t get kisses from me today,”
“You and I both know that you can’t resist me, Luce,” I smirked.
“Ugh! Just drive.”
And just like that, I drove right away.
We arrived at the grocery shortly. The two sisters bickered on where we should buy our groceries, and neither of them stopped. Lucy wanted to go to a local supermarket while Lena wanted to go to Walmart. We all knew at this point who’s the more annoying one.
We parted ways as we got inside the store, Lena taking her own cart while Lucy and I shared a cart with her pushing it as I’ll be the one in charge of the checklist. Taking my glasses from my head, I put it on and started looking for the first thing on the list.
“What are we having for tonight?” She questioned, resting her elbows on the handle as she pushed the cart.
“Everything you told my mom. Plus! Her signature banana bread. It’s really good- the best even,” I said while I scanned the list.
Last night, my mom went to my room, asked for Lucy’s number, and went straight out like nothing happened. She called Lucy after, without telling me, asking her what food she wanted my mom to cook. Mom can be a little crazy when it comes to cooking for people. She loves to cook for everyone and let them taste her food. Let me tell ya, she’s more excited about the dinner than I was! Even more than Lucy as well! She even woke me up around 4 am to help her clean the house. She’s driving me crazy much more than Lucy did.
I turned around to see Lucy winking at me with a smirk. My heart leaped. Okay, I think I’m gonna take my words back.
She drives me crazy more than my mom did.
I grabbed a bag of Doritos and chucked it at her face, “Stop that. You’re wearing your flirty look,”
“Flirty look? Am I not allowed to admire you? Can I not appreciate your beauty, your smile, your presence, and everything about you?”
“We-” I didn’t continue what I was gonna say and just emitted a sigh, “Can you get 2 maltesers, please?” I pointed at the chocolates beside her. A pout appeared on her face as she reached for the maltesers and dropped it in the cart.
I grabbed the front of the cart, giving it a pull, and went to the next aisle. We moved on to the pasta section since we’ll be making lasagna along with garlic bread, buffalo wings, mashed potatoes, and mom’s signature banana bread. We already have the ingredients for banana bread at home.
I got the lasagna pasta from the shelf and tossed it in the cart. We already got most of the stuff we needed, except for the spices we’ll be using. I led us to the spices section, some people were at that section too.
“Hey, Amber? You never told me what happened between you and your ex-boyfriend,” Lucy spoke out of nowhere.
My eyes darted from the list to her, “You want me to tell you that now?”
She gave me a shrug, “Save me from boredom.”
With a sigh, I pushed my glasses up, “Okie dokie. But you also tell me what happened between you and your ex,”
“Deal.”
Taking a deep breath, I recalled every memory I had with Ian. It wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t pleasant at all. “When I was fourteen, I always thought about having a boyfriend and getting my first kiss from the boy I liked. Now, around that time, there were rumors about Ian being gay and all that jazz, and of course, rumors being rumors, I didn’t believe it. He knew that I’ve been dreaming of having a boyfriend, and seeing that I was the perfect bait, he started talking to me and telling me that he liked me. Me being naive and all, I believed him, We started dating and I fell in love with him…”
I put the spices in the cart, flashing Lucy a smile while she frowned before she spoke, “He used you, didn’t he?”
“Yep. After 3 months of dating, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes. Told me he loved me but he really didn’t. Then 2 months passed by, he broke up with me, saying that he’s gay and he actually loves someone else. Lexi came to the rescue, broke his nose, and yelled at him for breaking my heart and for using me. He kept saying sorry to me, I forgave him and that’s it. He transferred schools the next year.”
It was something I want to forget, but it’s also an eye-opener for me to never fall in love with someone that fast. Being in love with Ian was totally different than being in love with Lucy. With him, it was just puppy love. But with her? It’s so much more.
“I didn’t know it was that bad,” She said softly.
“I’ve learned my lesson,”
“You’re lucky you’re in love with someone who’s pretty, kind, smart-“
“But also very annoying, clingy and a total pain in the ass most of the time,” I grinned widely, making Lucy roll her eyes. “But yes, I am very lucky.”
Her eyes lit up like stars on a dark and stormy night; Her face softened and it was the first time I saw her make an expression like that. I realized how good it feels to be with her.
“I’m luckier to have you, Amber. You should always know that,”
My cheeks turned red, not knowing what to say, “Your turn to tell your story,”
She snickered at my reply, knowing that she got me speechless. “Diana and I were together for 2 years. She was so toxic and I didn’t see my worth back then. She’s manipulative and bossy and possessive, I did everything she said. I stayed in that relationship cause I loved her and followed everything she wanted me to. I was blinded, I thought I was happy being with her…”
“But you’re not. You realized that you were never truly happy,” I assumed,
She nodded her head, “I realized I was never truly happy with her. She broke up with me and told me she hasn’t really moved on from her ex and they got back together. Basically, I was a rebound. After that, I made a promise to myself to never let anyone treat me like that ever again. I finally see my worth and loved myself more than I ever did. Then I met you,” She smiled.
“Then you met me what?”
“You changed my heart of stone into a heart of gold. You make me feel better about myself, make me love myself more. You helped me to become the best person I could ever be,”
I felt myself smiling, “Are you happy with me, Lucy?”
“No words could ever describe how happy you make me feel.”
“Aww, you guys are so sweet, I’m gonna puke,” A voice spoke. I turned around to see Lena with a bittersweet expression written all over her face, “Like seriously.”
“I’m gonna make sure to put your puke back in your mouth if you don’t shut up!” Lucy spat at her little sister.
“You’re disgusting!” Lena took something from the shelves and threw it at Lucy,
Lucy caught it and threw it right back. “I will be if you stop being a bitch!”
“I can’t. I’m following your footsteps, remember?” Lena dodged it, taking a much bigger canned soup from the shelves.
This time, I was the one who caught it, making me stumble a little at how heavy it was. “Guys! You might wanna stop throwing things at each other or else we’ll be paying for it,”
The Halliwells kept sending glares at each other. Lena put back the other cans on the shelves along with Lucy who was holding cans against her chest. If I wasn’t here, there would be a World War III happening right now.
“I’ll stop, if… You help me get in the cart and push me,” Lena said to me, crossing her arms.
“You can’t stretch your legs and your dress will rise,” I pointed out.
“Hello? Shorts. Now help me, Lesbo,” She raised her dress, revealing a pair of red shorts.
I rolled my eyes, helping her either way. Lena was short but still wasn’t short enough to completely fit in the cart. She pushed the food aside so she could sit comfortably. “Happy?”
“Very much, yes,” She grinned.
I gazed at Lucy who’s watching her sister with envy. “I’m guessing you want to go in too?”
She gave me a shrug, pulling me close to her that I could feel her breath against my ear. “Mhmm, but I’m not wearing anything underneath,”
My heart started pounding, cheeks were tinted red. I pulled away to see if she’s joking or not. She kept her face straight, “You’re joking, right?”
“Do I look like I’m joking?” She started walking away towards the other cart.
“Luce. You’re joking, right?“
“I don’t know, Amber,” She sang.
“Lucy.” I warned. She rose her dress, revealing her black shorts. I released a relieved sigh, “Dude.”
“You look like you we’re about to have a heart attack,”
“I will one day and you’ll be the reason for it.” She gave me a flying kiss and I caught it in my hand and kept it with a grumpy face. “Anyway, do we have everything that we need?”
Lucy checked everything on the list if we had it in the cart. Once she checked every single one, she crumpled the paper and placed it in my pocket. “Yup.”
“Lesbo, don’t forget to push me,”
“Do you hear something?” I said.
Lucy broke a smile before her face turned serious. “I’m not sure. Although I think I heard a pest buzzing around,”
“Guys, the cart wobbles when I try to stand up!” Lena was trying to support herself by holding onto the shelves, making the items fall out.
“Should we run?” I turned to Lucy.
“Guys!” Lena yelled.
“We should,” Lucy grabbed my hand and we made a run for it, “Amber, Amber the cart!”
I went back to the cart, pushing it as I ran away from Lena who was still struggling to get out of it.
“I hate you both!” She exclaimed, knocking out the cart as she got out.
People were staring at her while she’s fixing everything on the shelves and in her cart. Me and Lucy burst into laughter at how crazy she looked.
“Keep up, Lena!” Her big sister called out.
“Assholes!”
