Chapter 6
Sasha waved bye to Lux and Zay as they drove away, and took a deep breath before heading in. She was happy that her parents car was nowhere in sight, meaning she succeeded in making it back on time.
The home was dark and quiet, so she headed upstairs to her room.
Her breath regulated when she entered the four walls, and as always plopping onto her bed. She smiled at herself, and although her experience had been cut short she still felt good knowing she got to participate in real teen activities.
Her mind drifted to Lux next, and the same uncomfortable feeling took over her. She wasn’t sure how she felt about the kiss, because she never kissed anyone. Well once, at overnight camp in seventh grade, but she told herself the liplock with Jacob Morgan didn’t count. And she also never pictured herself kissing a girl, however if she was being honest she never thought about kissing anyone. She was just that awkward. Still, strangely enough she admitted that she kind of liked it.
Her heart felt fluttery, and weird. And the whole ride home she couldn’t help but to think about it, and wondered was Lux thinking about it too, although her attitude was like nothing ever happened.
Sasha undressed herself, and decided to save the shower for the morning time. She then thought about the weed smell, and pushed her dirty clothes to the bottom of the hamper and covered them. She turned out her light, and laid back onto her bed. She began to scroll through her and Lux’s messages, and twisted her mouth. This was a whole area she wasn’t exactly experienced it, and quickly closed out the messages. She pressed into her safari instead, and searched ‘lesbians’. She scrolled past the articles, the google questions that read : how do you know if you’re a lesbian, and so forth. She felt completely stupid, because a person should know what they like right?
However it didn’t come that easy for Sasha. She continued to scroll, only to stop when she read something that enticed her. She clicked onto the porn link, and her eyes widened at the graphic video that didn’t hesitate to auto play, the sound of the obnoxious moaning coming from her phone speakers immediately.
She quickly exited out of it, clutching her chest nervously. She waited a few minutes, and after enough time went past she turned the volume down, next pulling up the video once more. Her eyes were glued to the screen as she watched the two girls kiss passionately.
Her eyebrow raised as one moved her hand between the other’s legs, and she threw her neck back in pleasure. At this point Sasha’s heart was racing, but her eyes didn’t move from the screen. She felt a strange feeling between her own legs, but didn’t dare go down to check. She watched as the first girl touched herself in that area, and Sasha grew curious. She licked her dry lips, and made a note to get something to drink because the smoking had took all moisture from her mouth. She then moved her hand slowly down her ball shorts in efforts to imitate what she saw on the screen.
“Sasha!”
Her mother yelled from the other side of the door. She jumped up, and quickly exited out of the video.
“Yes” she called out.
“Me and your father want to talk to you”
“Now?” She asked, as it couldn’t of been at a worst time.
“Yes, now” her mother retorted.
Sasha rolled her eyes into her head and brought herself to her feet. Without letting her phone out of her grip she entered the hallway, only to see that her mother had vanished that fast. She wasn’t sure where her parents were, but took a lucky guess at their bedroom and was correct.
“Yeah?” She asked, as the two finished to get ready for bed.
Her mother was removing the plethora of decorative pillows off of their bed while her father cleaned his glasses in the chair that sat in the corner.
“Your mother and I have decided your punishment” he spoke up, and Sasha folded her arms.
“Punishment for what?”
“You know what, forging your mother’s signature for basketball after I told you that you couldn’t play”
“How do you even know it was for basketball?”
Sasha rolled her eyes, because the permission slip only said for extracurricular activities not specifically for basketball.
“You didn’t exactly deny it, and besides what else would you need a permission slip for?” Her father raised his brow.
The three stayed silent, and Sasha searched her head for an explanation.
“Cheerleading” she shrugged.
She didn’t know where that lie came from, but she was sure her father would ground her twice as long for coming up with such a bogus lie.
“Cheerleading?” Joseph repeated, sounding as if he didn’t believe a word she said.
Sasha chuckled nervously and placed her hand on the back of her neck. While Joseph was reading his daughter’s nervous expression, Myda on the other hand was smiling ear to ear with the news.
“My baby made the cheerleading team!” She exclaimed.
“Myda, don’t be so damn dumb. That girl is playing you!” Joseph said adamantly.
“Oh, hush up Joseph. No she’s not” Myda flagged him. She was just relieved to have her daughter doing something ‘girly’ per say, and wasn’t even thinking about the fact that Sasha never liked anything remotely close to what gender roles expected her to.
“Since when do you, like cheerleading?” Joseph raised his voice, “Just two days ago you couldn’t shut up about basketball, now you get caught with a slip and now you’re a cheerleader. I must have stupid on my forehead”
“Maybe she changed her mind, Joseph. Remember she just met a girl, maybe they’re on the team together” Myda convinced herself.
“We are” Sasha jumped in, “Yeah, Lux joined and when I went to the tryouts and they asked me to join. I know you said no after school activities, so I hid it.
And I’m sorry, I just….want to be a normal girl”
Those words were like music to her mother’s ears, and deep down she knew her father liked to hear those words as well. He still stood his ground on not wanting her to be distracted from school, however his wife was so excited about Sasha joining the team, he let it go for time being.
“Fine” he said disgruntled, “But as soon as your grades slip you’re not doing it anymore. You are to come straight home after school ~”
“Oh, I also have a group project with Lux so we have to work together after practice” Sasha added in.
Joseph slit his eyes and then continued, “She comes here to work on the project, after practice. Bring me another slip tomorrow and your mother will sign it, the right away”
“Yes dad, thank you” Sasha nodded, “Really, I won’t mess this up”
She went to turn around, however her father called her back once more.
“I didn’t forget your punishment” he spoke back up.
Sasha twisted her mouth, and should’ve known it would be too good to be true without that.
“Oh…right. What is it?” She asked.
“Give me your phone for the weekend”
Sasha’s shoulders dropped, and as bad as she wanted to reject it she decided to take what she could get. She went to hand it over, but then quickly rememberer she didn’t close out of her video. She jerked it back, and her father looked at her suspiciously.
“Sorry, I have to text Lux that I’ll talk to her on Monday about the project” she lied once more.
She was on a roll tonight.
She quickly exited completely out of the video and then deleted her history, just in case her dad decided to go snooping. She handed over the phone, and turned back to her room.
While she wouldn’t be in contact with her new friends, she was still satisfied that she had gotten away with her lies. Although she knew eventually her brothers would find out, for right now she was just glad to have her parents on board. Whether or not they knew what for.
“Well…sucks you couldn’t stay longer” Zay said as he pulled up to the corner of Lux’s block.
She directed him to the corner house, although she had to really go down the alley way to enter her broken down home from the back to access her room.
“Yeah, I was having fun” Lux nodded, “But I didn’t want to get Sasha in trouble”
“Why do you hang with her anyway?” Zay scoffed, still confused by the duo.
It wasn’t that Sasha wasn’t cool, she just definitely wasn’t the type of girl he would see Lux hanging with. Everything about Lux was girly, whereas Sasha was as much as a boy as him.
“I like her” Lux shrugged, and was sure he thought she meant like a friend.
“Yeah but like you could be hanging with much cooler girls. I’m just saying high school is a tough place, you want to get in the right crowd”
“Hellooo, I’m a senior” Lux chuckled, “I know how high school works”
“Yeah well Fels ain’t just any high school” he gave her a knowing look, “But either way you seem to be making a mark”
“Yeah and it’s only been two days can you believe it?” She said sarcastically.
It was only when she was young did Lux ever believe in the hype of school popularity. Due to her pretty features, people always clung to her whichever school she went to through her many years of transferring. She quickly realized those people only hung with her for self gain, like girls who wanted to be friends just because the guys always invited her to parties or to hang out.
Once she caught onto that, she figured it was better to just be a lone wolf.
“Well anyway, I’m going to leave now” Lux gestured her head towards the outside.
“Alright” Zay nodded, “See you at school on Monday”
“See you Monday” she said before hopping out.
Everything in Zay wanted to keep the conversation going, however Lux always was so uninterested in whatever he had to say. That he wasn’t used to, because girls were always following him around or staring at him, but not Lux. It was as if she didn’t give a damn if he even existed.
And Lux didn’t.
Her mind was completely wrapped around one person, as she hurriedly made her way into her room through the back.
She plopped back into her bed and scrolled through her threads to find Sasha’s, next shooting her a text. She too felt weird about their time in the bathroom, but only because she wasn’t sure how Sasha felt about it.
While she had butterflies, Sasha’s face was mortified. Lux’s forehead creased when she realized the message didn’t deliver, and she frowned.
Maybe her phone was dead, or maybe she blocked her. Maybe Lux had moved too fast with the shy girl, and she freaked. Lux rolled her eyes into her head and decided to just get some sleep. Monday would be rolling around soon, she was sure she would get her answer then.
After getting undressed, she attempted to get some sleep but began to hear her phone ringing the moment she threw the sheets over her head. She smiled when she saw the person who was calling, and quickly answered.
“Hey bro” she sung, sitting up and flicking on her lamp.
“What’s up minnie?” He asked, calling her by his nickname for her.
“How are you? Where are you? When are you coming back?” She asked bombarding her big brother with questions and he laughed.
“Chill out, I’m cool” he assured her, “I’m at a friends, but don’t worry about me. How was your first couple of days of school”
“They were okay” she let out a sigh, “But being here at Joan’s isn’t the greatest” she said referring to her grandmother.
“I know sis, I’ma get you and Luna out of there. Just give me some time” he told her, “But in the meantime, I need you to stay out of trouble. Are you doing that?”
“Yup” she said, proud of herself.
She still had the whole school year to go, but so far she was doing well.
“Alright then, we’re cool. I’ll stop by tomorrow to give you some money for school shit”
“Thanks Lucius” she smiled to herself before a loud yawn escaped from her mouth.
Lucius chuckled and decided to wrap up the convo, “Alright sis, get some sleep”
“Okay, see you tomorrow”
“Love you”
“Love you too”
The two disconnected their call, and Lux was excited about seeing her older brother the following day.
While she was only eighteen, her brother was twenty one and came and went as he pleased at his grandmother’s house. Other than that he stayed in the streets, and stayed with any female he was dealing with at the moment or a friend he trapped with. He made sure to show his face and take care of his little sisters when he had the means, and after scoring a little more from working the corners he decided to give Lux a visit to keep her well taken care of.
Lux was grateful for her brother, because without him she would be much more without. She didn’t know her dad that well, and her mom was always ripping and running the streets. Lucius had been the only positive thing in her life, and she thanked God for him.
With a smile on her face she attempted to go to sleep once more. She flicked off her lamp, and dug her head into her sheets moments later, drifting off to sleep only minutes later.
