Chapter 34
The Katseye house was never truly silent. Even late at night, there was always the faint hum of laughter from another room, the shuffle of footsteps down the hall, or the muffled sound of music leaking through a door. But tonight, Dani’s room felt like its own little world – dimly lit, cocooned in warmth, the glow of the laptop screen flickering across the walls.
You sat cross-legged on the bed beside her, a blanket draped over both of you. The movie played softly, its dialogue nearly audible over the steady rhythm of Dani’s breathing. She was curled against the pillows, hair spilling across her shoulders, dressed in an oversized hoodie that looked borrowed from rehearsal, sleeves tugged over her hands.
“You’re not even watching,” you whispered, nudging her playfully.
Dani turned her head, lips curving into a grin. “I am. I just happen to think you’re more interesting than the movie.”
You rolled your eyes, though your smile betrayed you. “Smooth.”
Before Dani could reply, the door creaked open. Manon stepped inside, already in pyjamas, her hair tied back loosely. She gave you a tired smile. “Don’t mind me. Just need to crash.”
“Of course,” Dani said warmly, shifting slightly.
Manon slipped into her bed on the other side of the room, pulling the covers up to her chin. Within minutes, her breathing evened out, the soft rhythm of sleep filling the quiet.
You glanced at Dani, lowering your voice to a whisper. “Guess we have to be quiet now.”
Dani’s eyes sparkled in the dim light. “That’s half the fun.”

The movie continued, but neither of you paid much attention. Dani shifted closer, her knee brushed against yours. The touch lingered, deliberate. Your breath caught, and Dani smirked, leaning in just enough for her lips to hover near your ear.
“You’re blushing,” she teased, voice barely audible.
“Am not,” came the whispered reply, though the heat in your cheeks betrayed you.
Dani leaned in, her hair brushing against your cheek, the faint scent of shampoo mingling with the warmth of the blanket. When your lips met, it was soft at first – cautious, testing. But the sweetness of the kiss quickly gave way to something deeper.
Your hand slid to Dani’s thigh, fingers curling against the fabric of her hoodie. Dani inhaled sharply, the sound swallowed by the kiss. She pressed closer, lips moving with urgency, tasting faintly of mint and sugar. The gloss made everything slick, each kiss messier, more intoxicating.
Dani broke away just long enough to whisper, “Quiet…” Her breath was hot against your mouth, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
You grinned, whispering back, “You’re the one making noise.”
That earned a soft laugh from Dani, quickly muffled as you kissed her again – harder this time, lips parting, the kiss deepening until the movie’s dialogue was nothing but background noise. Your breaths mingled, quick and uneven, the blanket rustling with every shift.
Your hand slid up Dani’s side, tugging her close, and Dani responded with a quiet gasp, her fingers curling into the fabric of your shirt. The tension was electric – every sigh swallowed, every laugh stifled, every touch sharper because of the silence you had to maintain.
Manon shifted in her sleep, and they froze, lips hovering, hearts pounding. Dani’s eyes widened, then softened when Manon’s breathing steadied again. She pressed her forehead against yours, whispering, “See? We’re fine.”
You chuckled silently, brushing your thumb across her jaw. “You’re reckless.”
“Reckless for you,” Dani murmured, before kissing you again – slower now, savouring the moment. Her lips moved deliberately, each kiss lingering, each touch deliberate. The hoodie brushed against your skin, her hair tickling your cheek, her lips warm and insistent.
The world narrowed to the space between you. The movie ended, credits rolling unnoticed, but neither of you moved. Dani’s smile softened as she whispered, “Stay the night?”
You nodded, curling against her as the blanket settled around you. Manon’s steady breathing filled the room, a reminder of the world outside of your bubble. But in that moment, it didn’t matter.
The night belonged to you – quiet, flirty and heated, sparks burning brighter for being kept in the dark.
