Chapter 23
They had finally reached their destination.
Becky stepped out first. She closing the car door carefully before walking to the backseat where the triplets were sitting. She inhaled deeply before open the car door.
Freen was already beside her. “Let me help them open the seatbelt,” she offered calmly.
Becky nodded her head. She pushing away a few strands of hair that had fallen over her face. Before stepping fully into the battlefield she knew was coming, she quickly tied her hair into a ponytail.
She was ready. Ready to face the tears, the protests, the dramatic accusations of betrayal from her own children.
Fosbein was the first to step down from the car. His small shoes touched the tar road and he froze there for a moment. His eyes slowly lifted toward the tall hospital building in front of him. Fastian stepped down right after him and stood shoulder to shoulder with his twin brother, both of them staring at the entrance like it was the gate to doom.
“Are we get a prick?” Fastian asked quietly, he swallowing his saliva so hard his throat moved visibly.
“Maybe,” Fosbein answered in a low voice. He trying to sound brave but his fingers were already curling nervously at his sides.
Becky heard that and almost sighed but she maintained her composure.
“Freen, let me take care of Fahnareeh. You can handle the boys,” Becky said as she gently took Fahnareeh from Freen’s arms. She knew very well that later, when the real drama started, Fahnareeh would be the most unpredictable one.
Fahnareeh rested her head on Becky’s shoulder, her face still glowing with a bright, innocent smile, completely unaware of the tension building around her.
The boys walked slowly, each of their small hands held firmly by Freen.
Their steps were reluctant, dragging slightly as if walking slower could somehow delay their fate. They kept looking down at the tiled floor while entering the hospital lobby, refusing to look at any nurse in white uniform.
Becky just chuckled looking at her boys who were already starting to get scared.
“What’s wrong, Becky?,” Freen frowned at Becky’s behavior.
“Nothing.”
They reached Dr. Sea’s room and knocked gently before entering.
Dr. Sea smiled warmly the moment she saw them. She already knew who would be coming today it’s was her dramatic trio patient.
“Good morning, Becky and triplets,” she greeted cheerfully.
“Good morning,” Becky replied politely.
Doctor Sea then shifted her gaze to Freen and smiled. “I think you must be their daddy.”
Freen nodded calmly. “Yes.”
At that exact moment, Fahnareeh’s expression changed as if she had finally realized where they were.
“Mommy… I want to go home,” she said softly, her lips trembling.
“We will go home later,” Becky replied gently, but while saying that, she quietly locked the door with a soft click.
Freen noticed it. She didn’t say anything. She just kept silent.
“Doctor, you no prick us right? We already big. No a baby anymore,” Fosbein suddenly said bravely but as soon as he finished speaking, he slipped behind Freen’s back hiding half of his body there.
Doctor Sea chuckled softly. “You will still meet that needles, but only after every check up already done,” she explained patiently. “Who want to going first?”
Immediately, Fosbein pushed Fastian’s back. “Fastian wants to be the first.”
Fastian stumbled forward and quickly retreated to Becky’s side. “Don’t push me!” He frowned angrily and pushed Fosbein back. “If you want, you go!”
The tension rose instantly.
Freen stepped between them before things escalated. “Stop arguing.”
“Boys, we only do checkups without injections first. The injections is the last checkup we do later,” Becky explained firmly. Then she looked at Fosbein. “Rox, you go first.”
“Mommy, I don’t want to be prick,”
Fosbein’s voice cracked, his eyes already glossy.
“The injections can be done together. Now, go to the doctor,” Becky insisted, keeping her tone steady.
Freen gently held Fosbein’s small hand. “Let’s go. Daddy will be with you.”
“Let Tian first,” Fosbein protested weakly.
“Fosbein Rox Suphaphorn!” Becky’s voice shifted into what the triplets secretly called her ‘hulk mode.’ “Fastian already be a first person before. It’s so unfair to him later. Just go. Nothing will hurt you.”
Fosbein’s lips trembled. He started sobbing.
The sound echoed slightly in the small room.
Freen’s expression softened instantly, her heart already melting.
“Just bring him to the doctor, Freen. Don’t pity at him,” Becky said firmly, though her own heart was quietly aching too.
Freen nodded slowly and guided Fosbein toward Dr. Sea.
Fastian, watching from behind Becky’s leg, suddenly laughed at his twin brother’s dramatic crying.
“Fastian!” Becky shot him a death glare so sharp that he immediately stopped laughing and straightened his posture.
“Doctor, I’m not going to die, right?,” asked Fosbein who was still crying. He was sat on Freen’s thigh.
“No.”
“Boy, you will be fine. If you feel it’s hurt, hold daddy’s hand. Daddy is here with you. Mommy, Fastian and Fahnareeh are also here,” Freen held his hand tightly.
The triplets’ check-up went smoothly. Fastian and Fahnareeh didn’t cry at all because they had seen how Doctor Sea did the check-up on Fosbein.
Now, it’s time for Becky to face the trio drama that will be injected.
Doctor Sea has prepared syringes to inject the trio.
“Mommy!!,” Fosbein hugged Becky’s legs tightly. She couldn’t stroke her son’s head because both his hands were holding Fahnareeh’s body which she was carrying by her.
Becky was afraid that her daughter would fall later because Fahnareeh herself was crying hysterically.
As usual, Becky tried to crouch down so that she could talk to her another child while her other child carry by her. She tried to be fair when come to her triplets baby.
“Shh..shh..you said you are big boy,” said Becky.
Freen was soothing Fosbein in her arms. She went over to Becky.
“Princess, can you stand up first?”
“I want mommy carry me,” said Fahnareeh while crying.
“The doctor won’t take you even if you’re not hugged by mommy. Stand up first okay?”
Fahnareeh nodded her head.
