Chapter 33
The apartment buzzed with energy, the kind that always came before a night out. Music pulsed faintly from a speaker on the dresser – one of Katseye’s tracks, upbeat and infectious – while the faint scent of perfume and hairspray mingled with the sugary sweetness of lip gloss.
Dani sat at the vanity, leaning close to the mirror as she carefully applied another layer of gloss. The wand glided across her lips, leaving them shining under the warm light. She tilted her head, admiring the effect, then pressed her lips together with a satisfied little hum.
From the doorway, you leaned against the frame, arms crossed, watching with a grin. “You know,” you teased, “I think you might’ve gone a little heavy on the gloss.”
Dani turned, eyes narrowing playfully. “Excuse me? This is precision. Gloss is supposed to shine.” She puckered dramatically, sending a kiss towards the mirror.
You stepped into the room, closing the distance with a deliberate slowness. “Mm, maybe. But now I’m distracted. How am I supposed to let you leave the house when you look like that?”
Dani laughed, setting the wand down. “Oh, so you’re saying it’s too much?”
“Too much for everyone else,” came the reply, voice dropping just enough to make Dani’s breath hitch. “But perfect for me.”
The tension hung between them, playful and charged. Dani tilted her chin up, lips parted in anticipation, and the kiss landed soft at first – sweet, sticky with gloss, tasting faintly of vanilla. She giggled against your mouth, pulling back just enough to murmur, “See? Now you’re wearing it too.”
You brushed a thumb across the gloss that had smudged. “Guess we’ll have to reapply.”
“Or,” Dani whispered, leaning in again, “we could just keep sharing.”
The second kiss was longer, lingering, a mix of laughter and heat. Dani’s hand found its way to your waist, pulling you closer until the music seemed to fade into the background. The gloss made everything slick and sweet, each movement playful, almost daring. Dani nipped lightly at your bottom lip, pulling back with a mischievous grin.
“You’re terrible,” you whispered, breathless but still smiling.
“And you love it,” Dani shot back, eyes sparkling. She leaned in again, this time slower, savouring the moment. The kiss deepened, turning into something more charged – not rushed, but deliberate, like you were both testing how far they could push before the world interrupted.
Just then, a knock sounded on the door. “Dani, are you ready yet?” It was Sophia, her voice muffled but unmistakably amused.
Dani groaned, forehead dropping against your shoulder. “Of course. Perfect timing.”
You chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from Dani’s face. “You should probably answer before they barge in.”
Dani straightened, calling out, “Two minutes!” She turned back, eyes sparkling. “See what you do to me? Now I’m late.”
“Worth it,” you said simply, stealing another quick kiss before stepping back.
When you finally emerged, the rest of the Katseye were gathered in the living room, adjusting outfits and chatting. Manon raised an eyebrow at Dani’s slightly smudged gloss. “Hmm. Did someone get a little distracted?”
Dani shot her a look, cheeks warming. “Mind your business.”
Lara smirked, nudging Megan. “I think we already know what happened.”
You slipped an arm around Dani’s waist, unbothered by the teasing. “She looks perfect, doesn’t she?”
The group laughed, the moment dissolving into an easy camaraderie. But as Dani leaned into you, her lips still shining, she whispered just for you: “Later, no interruptions.”
And in that promise – playful, flirty and a little spicy – the night ahead felt brighter than any spotlight.
