Chapter 2
“You again,” We said in unison.
She squinted, crossing her arms. “What are you doing here?”
“Chilling… Now what are you doing here?”
“I’m gonna do the same thing,”
“Can’t you find another place to go? I’d like to be alone, thank you,” I said bluntly. I was about to put back my earphones, but she chuckled harshly.
“Do you know who owns this house?” She cocked her head to the side, biting her lip.
I opened my mouth to come up with something so she can get out, so I pretended that it was mine. “Do you know who owns this house? Me. So don’t forget to lock the door on your way out.”
“Really? So sweet of you to hang a big picture of me over there,” Her red lips formed a smirk, her annoyed look now turned into amusement. I closed my eyes and sighed.
The picture was huge alright. It’s a portrait of her. Her eyes were staring at the camera, lips slightly parted, her head leaning on the chain link fences.
How come I didn’t see that big ass picture? Maybe I should use my glasses more. Kayla didn’t tell me that this was Lucy’s house. She knew that If I did, I wouldn’t bother going. She’s so dead!
“Next time you should check who’s the owner before lying,” she said, still smirking.
“I was trying to get rid of you,” I muttered
“You and everyone knows you can’t get rid of me that quick,” She said matter of fact.
“Still. Worth a shot.” I muttered again to myself.
“Didn’t you read the ‘keep out’ sign that’s on my door?” She pointed the door behind her with her thumb.
“I did…” I drawled. “I just didn’t follow it,”
“Obviously.” Lucy scoffed while she rolled her eyes at me.
“Why didn’t you lock the door if you don’t want people to be in here?” I gave her a skeptical look.
She shrugged, “I just went somewhere to get something. Besides you, no one would ever dare to go in,”
“There’s a lot of people who break the rules too, you know?” I pushed.
“I know. They know who owns this house so no one bothers to go in here especially when there’s a warning sign. They know they’re dead if they went inside,” she said.
I gulped in nervousness. I wasn’t afraid of her. But I was afraid that something might happen when I stay a bit longer. I sat up and gathered my things. “Well I’m gonna go…”
Lucy lied down beside me, grabbing my arm to stop me. “You know what? You should stay, Stines. You’re interesting,” She grinned.
Her face changed like she’s a new person. Back at school and awhile ago, she was this cold mean girl; but now, she looked like a completely different person.
I didn’t really want to leave and remembering what Kayla told me about her, I went back to the position I was in awhile ago. “Stines? You know my last name, but don’t know my first name, I supposed?
She gave me a sheepish grin. “So what’s your first name?”
“We’ve been going to the same school for almost 3 years now and you still don’t. know. my. name? “I looked her dead in the eyes.” It’s Amber,”
“Amber… Cute name,” She blurted then continued to speak. “I’m sure you know me already. I mean, everyone does,”
I stared at her in disbelief. “Wow. Maybe everyone is right,”
“What do you mean everyone’s right?”
“That you’re-“
“Beautiful? Hot? Sexy?” She smiled seductively, wiggling her eyebrows.
My face scrunched up, shaking my head. “Conceited! Cocky, so overly confident, and may I add, not in a good way,”
She rolled her eyes and poked my cheek. “A simple yes or no would do, you know?”
“No…”
“What else do people think or say about me?” She wondered, looking at her fingers.
“That you’re a bitch.”
“No surprise there. Anything else?”
I continued. “You’re rude, mean, a slut, selfish, a person who loves herself so much. Has slept with all the football players,”
“Interesting.” She wondered, nodding her head.
“Seriously? Don’t you even feel hurt?” I asked in disbelief,
She shook her head. “I know what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s all that matters,” She shrugged. She then glanced to me and spoke, “What about you? Do you think those are true? What do you think of me?”
What do I think of her? “I don’t think all of them are. I don’t really know what I think of you. I don’t judge people easily,” I admitted.
“What about your first impression of me?”
“Mean and flirts with everyone,”
“Well, you’re not wrong,”
“So the sleeping with all the football team is true?” I gasped.
She let out a laugh. “That’s the number one bullshit I’ve ever heard. Cause Honey…” She cupped my face. “I’m gay,”
My jaw dropped as she grinned. I never realized that she’s gay. She closed my lips by pinching my lips with her fingers, both pinkies were raised up.
“I was annoyed at you at school, but God you’re so cute!” She giggled.
My hands covered the blush that appeared on my cheeks. “I never saw that coming,”
Lucy shrugged. “It’s actually obvious. People just think I’m not cause I’m popular, and the captain of the cheerleading team. So they expect me to be straight,”
“Good point. What about those days that you’re flirting with men?” I said with curiosity.
“Just for fun. It’s fun to mess around with them, especially if they think they’ll be getting something,”
“What about girls?”
“Eh, most of them are whiny losers,” said Lucy.
“Mean.”
“So you’ve mentioned. But I wouldn’t mind flirting with you. We can even make out right now if you’d like,” she winked, sitting on my lap.
My heart beat faster as she trailed her hands from my arms to my shoulders. “Sorry to ruin your fun, but I’m straight,”
“Are you now? Cause that’s not what I can sense on you,”
“Must suck to have poor senses, huh?”
Her eyes were filled with curiosity and fun. And not gonna lie, it made me nervous.
“Have you ever had a boyfriend?”
“O-once,”
“What about a girlfriend?”
“Again, I’m straight,” I swallowed.
“Then let me be your first girlfriend!” She flashed me a grin.
“The fuck?”
“I’m just joking, Amber!” She pushed her head back as she laughed.
Being with Lucy for awhile made me realized that maybe those rumors that I’ve been hearing about her weren’t true. I haven’t heard any good rumors about her, except from Kayla and their team.
“What about you? Have you ever been in a relationship?” I asked.
“Yep, once. Been together for 2 years then turned out that she’s only using me to get her ex back,”
“Ouch.”
“Mhmm, but I got over it. Then I never tried looking for one. No one even bothers to talk to me here. They’re afraid of me. But I don’t really care,” she smiled.
A brief smile appeared on my face. “I’m not scared of you though. You don’t even look intimidating,”
“Oh wait til you see my intimidating face. But is it because you find me beautiful and want me?” She joked.
“Dude. I-” The words got stuck in my throat.
I’m not really used to people flirting with me. I get all awkward and embarrassed.
“You’re so fun to tease!” She chortled, slapping me on the shoulder.
I came aware that she’s still on top of me. “I uh… Ugh! Can you get off of me, please?”
“What’s in it for me?”
And here I thought I was the annoying one.
“What do you mean what’s in it for me?” I furrowed my eyebrows.
“A kiss? Second base? Third?” She wiggled her eyebrows, smirking sexily.
“You’re gross! Please get off now!”
She laughed again and did what I said, lying down beside me as she clutched her stomach. I rolled my eyes, feeling irked before my phone buzzed.
I unlocked my phone, opening the text of Kayla.
I sat up, fixing my earphones before I put it in my pocket.
“Leaving so soon?” Lucy sat up too.
“Your best friend texted me. She and Lexi left me and went home,” I informed.
“Aren’t you mad that they left you?”
I stood up from the bed. “Why should I be mad?”
“They didn’t even wait for you,”
“Meh. Lexi can be a handful when she’s drunk, so we should always get her home asap. Sometimes I get left behind, sometimes it’s Kayla, so I don’t really mind. And now, I have to walk my way home.”
“Let me drive you home!” She offered.
“No thank you. I want to walk anyway. It’s just a 15 minute walk. Thanks for the offer though,”
“Please?” She insisted.
I eyed her for awhile. I kinda didn’t want to walk through the night. I might see something I shouldn’t be seeing. “Fine. You can drive me home,” I agreed.
“Hold on,” she jogged over the closet, removing her blouse as her bra was revealed.
“Bruh!” I covered my eyes, figuring where the door was.
“Never seen breasts before? I’m also wearing a bra,” she said amusingly.
“I-I have, but this is different!” I stuttered.
“Then what’s the difference?”
Uhmm… Cause you’re kinda intimidating and its a bit uncomfortable?
I didn’t reply. She glanced over her shoulder for a bit before speaking again, “Relax, I’m just changing clothes.”
“I’m gonna… Just gonna wait outside,” I said under my breath.
I hopped down on the stairs, pushing people out of my way to the front door, scrunching my nose at the mixed smell of alcohol and smoke. I closed the door behind me and inhaled fresh cold air.
The wind brushed through me, hair was blocking my face. I tuck some strands behind my ears as I waited patiently for Lucy.
The door creaked open, spinning around, Lucy was wearing a black hoodie, her hair was tied neatly.
She’s really pretty.
She can wear any style and rock it. Heck, she can even just wear a trash bag, and she’ll look amazing on it.
“Let’s go, Honey Bee.” She opened the passenger seat of her silver Mazda 6. I walked passed her and went in the back.
“Don’t you wanna sit here?” She motioned.
“Eh. Wanna experience how it feels like to have a driver,” I beamed. She rolled her eyes, closing the door and went in the driver’s seat.
I gave her the address of my house. She was surprised that I lived near her and that me and Lexi were neighbors. The car ride was quiet and we barely spoke a word. It’s like we were just enjoying the peaceful ride.
Once we pulled up at the front of my house, I immediately got out of the car. Not bothering to say goodnight. Though I did manage to say thank you.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, Amber!” She called back.
“Hope not!”
