“Ithinki’minlovewithtaylor,” Cameron flopped herself onto Abigail’s bed, the two of them having bonded after Taylor left for tour. But it was a huge thing to even come out to herself, Cameron had spent agonizing days pacing in her room, trying to figure out what went wrong with herself before she finally accepted her love for what it is: love. To come out to Abigail was a huge step, and even though Taylor would be the first person Cameron trusted with this secret, Abigail was not her unrequited crush and over the years, Cameron had started to really like the redhead.

Abigail blinked, and she looked up from her book. “I’m sorry, did I just hear you tell me that you’re in love with Taylor?”

Cameron nodded, before burying her face into one of the spare pillows. Well, no take backs now, it was out there. But saying it out loud was still different from admitting it to herself. The bed dipped down and Abigail gently peeled the pillow away from Cameron’s face. Her smile was soft, and Cameron felt a little better. “I’m really happy that you trust me enough with this, I’m really proud of you Cameron, sincerely. You can like who you like, and love is love, you know?”

“Yeah,” Cameron poked her head out from between the pillow. “So you don’t think I’m going to hell for liking a girl?”

“I think you might be going to hell for cheating on sweet Drew, but otherwise no,” Abigail raised an eyebrow, and Cameron buried her face into the pillow again. She mumbled into the pillow. “I’m sorry, honey, I think I need you to speak up.”

“I broke up with Drew,” Cameron mumbled, looking up again. “He was sad, like really sad. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone look so much like a kicked puppy. But he told me he saw it coming, and that he respects my decision. I asked if we could still be friends, but he said he needed space. And he said something along the line of ‘I’m just not who you wanted’ and I almost wanted to bury myself into the group and never come back out.”

“At least you have the decency to break up with him before confessing your love for Taylor to me,” Abigail laid down beside Cameron. “So… What are you going to do about it?”

Cameron looked at Abigail as if she was crazy. “Umm… take the secret to the grave? If Taylor ever finds out she probably won’t want to be my friend anymore, I mean I don’t want to make her uncomfortable or anything, you know?”

“She’s your best friend, she’ll understand,” Abigail countered, but Cameron shook her head.

“Nope, I will probably tell her about the liking girls thing, but there is no way in a million years I’m telling her about this stupid crush. It’s going to go away soon, and then we can just be friends. Plus she deserves better than whatever I can offer her, and let’s not forget, she’s straight,” Cameron pointed out, staring at the ceiling blankly. Life was so much easier when she was still a kid.

Abigail nodded in agreement, and took one of Cameron’s hands on her own. “Well, I’m here if you ever want to talk.”

Cameron squeezed her hand in thanks. “Well, I better get going. My mom is expecting me back home…”

“See you tomorrow?”

“See ya!” Cameron relentlessly got up from the comfort of Abigail’s bed and grabbed her backpack. The drive home was filled with Taylor’s song on the radio, and Cameron smiled in response and hummed along. She pulled up onto her driveway, and almost froze when she saw a familiar blonde waiting at the door. She parked quickly, grabbing her backpack as she ran out of the car.

Taylor turned around just as Cameron nearly tackled her best friend. “Taylor! What are you doing here?” She breathed out, wrapping her arms tightly around the blonde. She wanted to make sure it was real. Taylor hugged back just as tightly.

“They’re taking a break for Christmas, so I thought I’d come back and surprise you!” Taylor grinned, and Cameron sank into the familiar embrace. “I really missed you.”

“Me too,” Cameron sighed. “Do you want to come in?”

“Well I don’t want to be a bother-”

“Shut up, mi casa es su casa,” Cameron made awkward finger guns as she walked backwards into her house. She made a face as she turned around, mentally scolding herself. Taylor laughed and followed her in.

Her mom seems to be asleep already so Cameron quietly opened the door before closing it behind her. Taylor jumped onto Cameron’s bed, who gave her a look. “Are you in clean clothes?”

“You don’t seem to mind any other time,” Taylor rolled her eyes but nodded. “And I showered before I came here. Can’t have you smiling in all of my sweats, can I?”

“Nope, definitely not,” Cameron dropped her backpack at the foot of her desk and slid open her closet door, taking off her shirt with her back towards her best friend. “How was the trip back?”

“It was fine, I really miss this town,” Taylor sighed wistfully as Cameron pulled a sleep shirt over her head while kicking off her pants to pull on sweatpants.

Cameron turned around with a smirk. “Just this town?”

Taylor rolled over to pull Cameron down onto the bed with her. “Shut up, I miss you a lot too. We have so much catching up to do, you have to tell me everything. Have you hit home base with Drew yet?”

“Eww, I don’t want to talk about that,” Cameron shoved Taylor teasingly, who feigned falling off the bed. Cameron rolled her eyes at her antics. “And we did, and we also broke up.”

Taylor’s teasing smile faded, and she looked over at Cameron with remorse. “Oh darling, I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay, it was bound to happen, we want different things,” Cameron shrugged. It was her first heartbreak, and it wasn’t for the weak, for sure. “Better now than years later when we’re about to get married, right? Plus, he deserves better from me.”

Taylor pulled the brunette into her arms, and Cameron soak in the warmths. “I know what can cheer you up! We can go to the ice rink tomorrow!”

“Really? But you hate the ice rink,” Cameron looked up with a refined sparkle in her eyes.

“Really, I’ll even let you drag me on the ice.”

“YES! Best day ever!” Cameron grinned with a mischievous smirk. “You’re going to have so much fun.”

“This is the worst,” Taylor grumbled as Cameron saved her from a near death experience once more. The blonde held onto the ledge for dear life, refusing to let go even as Cameron offered her hands in offering. She almost tripped again just trying to get to the brunette, who has her hair tied up in a bun away from her face. “I hate these skates.”

“Rental can be a bitch,” Cameron agreed, holding both of Taylor’s hands in her own as she skated backwards. The latter had a death grip on Cameron’s hand, and she wouldn’t be surprised if she couldn’t feel her fingers later. “But if you stop tripping on your toe-pick, you’ll be fine.”

Taylor blinked. “My what now?”

“Your toe pick, the wavy parts in the front of your skate-” before Cameron could finish, Taylor stepped on the offending object and Cameron found herself feeling the sensation of falling before instinct made her turn so she was falling sideways and not backwards. Which means her best friend face planted and slid across the luckily mostly vacant rink. “Now I know why my mom wanted me to start skating early, that hurt like a bitch.”

Taylor groaned and sat up. “SAY YOU! I’m five-eleven, I fell more than your five-six fall.”

Cameron gasped in offense as she stood up expertly. “Just for that comment, I am going to leave you on the ground.”

“Noooo, get me up,” Taylor whined, sitting up with a pout on her face. And who was Cameron to say no to that face? She rolled her eyes and offered her hand to Taylor, who took it gratefully. Once she found her footing, she forced Cameron to guide her back to the ledge, where she was hoping she would stay for the foreseeable future. “You can go do your stuff, I will be staying here.”

“Come on, it isn’t that bad,” Cameron rolled her eyes. “I fell all the time when I was just starting out.”

“I’m sorry, how old were you when you started out? Five? Nine? And how tall were you?” Taylor pouted, rubbing her thigh with a pained groan. Cameron shoved Taylor teasingly to push off from the ledge. “I will be staying here, thank you very much.”

“Suit yourself,” Cameron shrugged and skated off. She loved the ice rink, it was like a home away from home. Although she doesn’t skate competitively like she used to, it still feels good to know she’s good at something. When she was sure there wasn’t anyone in her way, she gave herself some speed and did a jump. The moment in the air felt like flying, and Cameron felt herself holding her breath before her feet landed again.

Taylor cheered loudly from the ledge, and Cameron found herself smiling as she skated her to her best friend. “Am I looking at the future olympics skaters or what?”

“I’m afraid I’m no Olympics player in the making, sorry babes,” Cameron shrugged, before taking a breath and braced herself. “I actually got into NYU. And I’m committed to it.”

Taylor froze, before her face stretched into a huge smile. “If I could move I would hug you right now but I’m too afraid of dying right now. But I am so proud of you.”

Cameron laughed, and went forward to pull the blonde into a tight hug, who tried to protest when she realized her hand was no longer touching the ledge. “I won’t let you fall.”

“That’s what you said last time and we both fell,” Taylor deadpanned, and Cameron just shrugged. “But I’m so excited for you! It gives me more excuse to visit New York!”

“Or you can apply and attend that school with me,” Cameron raised an eyebrow. Taylor had chosen to focus on her music career instead of applying for college, and while her parents were against it at first, they had started to accept it.

Taylor sighed. “I don’t think I will. I am actually working on a second album right now, and don’t tell anyone, but I’ll be announcing it soon.”

“What?!” Cameron gasped and leaned forward. “You’re releasing a second album?! That’s so cool! Is my name going to be in it this time? You got Drew’s in there, I want my name there too.”

Cameron pouted, and Taylor shrugged. “Who knows, I guess you have to wait and see.”

“Fine, be that way,” Cameron crossed her arms, before suddenly reaching out and pulling Taylor out into the rink again. The blonde let out a squeak as she was dragged along again, laughing along eventually when she fell five more times in the same day.

“I think I can’t feel my ass anymore,” Taylor grumbled, and yelped when Cameron slapped her ass. “Did you just slap me?”

“You can still feel your ass,” Cameron shrugged nonchalantly, but a smirk was on her face. “Love you!”

“You’re on thin ice, Cameron. Thin ice,” Taylor warned, almost tripping again as she tried to get to the bench. “I hate skating.”Β
