Chapter 5

The detention room was a bit empty. There was only me, Reed Ivans, and this boy that I didn’t recognize. The room was a lot cleaner than the last time I’ve been here. The teacher who was monitoring us went somewhere and told us not to leave. We’re not even planning to.

I had some classes with Reed. He’s the captain of the Football team and he’s so nice. We sometimes talk, and whenever we see each other, we always make sure to greet one another.

“Hey, Amber!” Reed greeted with a warm smile, sitting beside me.

“Hello, Reed! How have you been doing?” I greeted back.

“Been doing good. Just busy being the captain of the football team,” He said, combing through his ash blonde hair with his fingers.

He was gorgeous. He has dark blue eyes that can mesmerize anyone. I was mesmerized. His tanned body was perfectly built. If only he’s my type, I’d totally ask him out on a date.

I mean, he was my type. But there’s just something in me that can’t describe how I’m feeling.

“Being a captain sounds fun,” I gave him a smile.

He snorted. “Sounds fun. It is fun, but it can also be stressful. Imagine being responsible for everything and your teammates,”

I chuckled as he smiled at me. There was a twinkle in his eyes that I didn’t know how he did that. Then he added, “I’d be happy if you come by sometimes and watch us practice,”

“I’ll totally keep that in mind,” The only problem was I get lazy most of the time and I’d rather read a book.

“I’ll look forward to see you there,” His mouth widened into a smile. It wasn’t long until he started speaking again. “Anyway, I saw Lucy hanging with you awhile ago,”

I groaned and hid my face with my hands. “Ugh! Can we please stop talking about her?”

He laughed at my frustration. “Why? You guys seemed to be having fun,”

“Not me. She’s annoying me. No- actually they’re all annoying. Lucy is more annoying. Lexi even told me to give her a ride home and she looks happy about it,” I ranted, pursing my lips.

“Really? Never thought of her being annoying. And what’s wrong with giving her a ride?”

“A lot!”

“You’re overreacting, Amber,” He chuckled.

“What do you think of her?” I asked, biting my lip. Curiosity was going through me.

“I thought you wanna stop talking about her?” He mocked.

I rolled my eyes. “Just answer the question,”

He paused for awhile to thought about his answer. “I have two classes with her and we rarely speak to each other. Although, she’s sometimes approachable and most of the time not,”

“So do you think those rumors about her are true?” I asked more.

I didn’t even know why I was asking him about her. I guess I wanted to know people’s opinions about her to see what they think of her. And I don’t want everyone’s attention on us. I might hear rumors about me soon.

“Maybe some, yeah. But I’ve talked to her before and she didn’t look rude nor mean. We had a proper conversation.”

“Okay, enough about her. Let’s talk about your love life, Reed,” I wiggled my eyebrows as he chuckled. I changed the topic and blurted the first topic that came into my mind.

“You mean my non-existent love life?” He puffed.

“Ah. still single, I see?”

He flashed me a coy smile, then clicked his tongue. “I’m just waiting for the perfect one, okay?”

“What if it takes you years?”

“I don’t mind. I’ll wait.”

“What about Olivia? She’s pretty and in the cheerleading team. You guys could be a perfect match!”

He let out a short chuckle. “She is pretty, but definitely not my type,”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Okay, what’s your type then?”

“Someone who’s simple and kind. Someone who’s stubborn but in a cute way, who’s very talkative, and who can be weird with me,” he grinned.

I rested my chin on my palm. “Have you found her though?”

He stared at me with those mesmerizing dark blue eyes. I wasn’t sure what happened, but there was just something about the way he stared. It made me feel uncomfortable a bit.

“I did. You-“

“I haven’t found mine,” I said in oblivion. “I don’t even think I’ll ever find the perfect one,” I added, snorting at the crazy thought.

He tilted his head, frowning. “How come?”

I shrugged. “It’s been years since the last time I liked someone. I barely even get crushes, Reed.”

“Really?”

I nodded. “Really really,”

“Maybe he’s just right around the corner, maybe he’s stuck in a traffic, maybe he’s in a coma, or maybe you already met him and you just don’t know it yet,” he jabbered.

I giggled. “Maybe. Maybe he even goes to this school, right?”

“Exactly!” He grinned, clicking his fingers.

“Well we’ll see,” my mouth shaped into a smile.

I’m not really that type of person who searches for love. It isn’t my main priority. I believe that it will come to me eventually and I have more important things to do.

“Amber?” Reed spoke.

“Yup?” I raised my eyebrows, waiting for him to reply.

He scratched the back of his neck, looking all flustered and shy. “Do you maybe wa-“

The door squeaked as it was opened by the teacher who was in charge here. He went to the table in front to get all his remaining things and put it in his black messenger bag. “I have to go to a meeting, so all of you may able to go home.”

Reed and I shared a look, happy that we can go home early. I also wanted to go home, cause I needed sleep.

Reed insisted to walk me to my car. I told him that it was okay and he didn’t need to, but he can be compelling, so I agreed. Cars were reversing, getting out of the parking lot. Reed’s car was parked 4 lots away from mine, and we were right beside mine.

“Thank you for walking with me,” I smiled at Reed who was returning the smile.

“Hey, no problem!”

“I’ll see you tomorrow?” I questioned.

“Yup, but you’re forgetting something. Or I might say, someone…”

I closed my eyes and let out a sharp sigh. “Reed! Why?!” I cried.

What I do?

“Why did you have to bring it up?” I whined.

“Cause you forgot Lucy,”

“I didn’t…” I trailed off, looking away.

He snickered. “So you’re telling me that you’re not gonna give her a ride?”

“Something like that?” I closed an eye as I wrinkled my nose.

He sighed, rolling his eyes at me. “Come on. I’ll walk you again to the field. I’m sure that’s where she is right now.”

“Or I can just go ho-“

“Don’t be stubborn,” he grabbed my wrist and dragged me on the way to the soccer field.

He didn’t let go of my wrist until we reached our destination. If he didn’t, I would’ve ran away and gone home and ditched the queen bee. But I’ll also feel bad, cause Lexi told me that I’ll be taking Lucy home. She’ll kill me if I left Lucy. And boy, I don’t wanna see Lexi mad.

Reed was right. The cheerleading team was in the field and it appeared like Lucy was scolding them all and punishing them by making them run all around the place. Now I don’t know how many laps have been gone, but it felt like it was more than 5 laps.

“Let’s wait for her here,” I said, stopping Reed from going down the benches and letting go of my hand.

He nodded and jumped on the lower bench, making Lucy’s head snap to our direction. A smile appeared on her face.

“Alright bitches, you may all go home now! If you decided to hurt Kayla again, I swear the punishment would be much worse than today!” She spat out loud, making the girls nod in agreement.

Now that I’m free, I slowly moved my feet away from the guy sitting in front of me. But before I could run, my wrist was taken by the hand who held it awhile ago.

“Behave.” He ordered.

I groaned, pouting as I stood still. “Okay okay,”

“Now sit,” he grinned.

“I’m not a dog,”

“Then be a good girl,” He chuckled quietly.

“Look she’s coming here. Can you let go of me now?” He let go and stood up, dusting his pants. I thanked him for walking me again.

“No prob!” He stared at me with a warm smile.

I smiled back and noticed that there’s something in his eyes. It’s like there’s a sign of hope and looked like he wanted to say something, but he was holding it in.

“Do you have something to share?” I blurted.

“Uh, yeah…” He opened and closed his mouth, unable to let the words out of his mouth. “Amber, do you maybe want to go-“

“Hey, honey bee!” Lucy greeted me.

“Nice timing,” I rolled my eyes and turned back to Reed. “What were you saying?”

“Uh… Nothing, nothing. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”

“Sure!”

He let out a forced smile. “Take care, Amber!” he glanced to Lucy and nodded. “Lucy.”

Lucy nodded back. “Ivans.”

I waved at him and watched him go before turning my attention to the brown haired girl beside me.

We started walking back to the parking lot, letting Lucy walk behind me.

As we got to my car, she started to speak. “I’m glad that you didn’t forget about me,”

“Oh, trust me, I didn’t,”

And I wish I did.
