Chapter 29

The sky outside was a pale gray canvas, streaked with lazy clouds and soft light, casting a muted glow over the city. From her office window, Sienna watched the world below with her arms crossed, her lips pursed in quiet thought. Cars buzzed along the street, horns echoing in distant bursts. Inside, the newsroom hummed faintly-phones ringing, keyboards clacking, quiet conversations drifting through the glass walls. But in her office, it was calm. Silent, even.

She let out a soft sigh, her forehead gently resting against the cool glass as her eyes scanned the sidewalk for nothing in particular. Her thoughts were elsewhere-wrapped in raven hair, deep hazel eyes, and a voice that called her Sunshine like it meant something.

A soft knock broke her reverie. Sienna didn’t flinch. “Come in,” she called, still facing the window.

The door creaked open, followed by a familiar voice and a teasing giggle. “Hey, S. You got a visitor.”

Sienna turned, her brows furrowed. “Who?”

Camryn didn’t answer. She simply smirked and stepped aside, allowing a tall figure to slip into the room.

Sienna’s breath caught.

Her favorite basketball player-no, her favorite person-stood in the doorway.

“Caitlin?” she said, her voice a breathless mix of surprise and disbelief. “What are you doing here?”

Camryn’s smirk widened like she’d just delivered a wrapped gift on Christmas morning. “I’ll leave you two to talk.” With that, she slipped out, shutting the door behind her.

The room was still again, but the air shifted-charged with the presence of Caitlin Clark, who stood tall and striking in jeans, sneakers, and a fitted Indiana Fever hoodie. Her raven hair was tied up messily, strands escaping around her temples. But what Sienna noticed most were the two brown paper bags she held in both hands.

Caitlin smiled-soft and knowing. “I brought lunch.”

Sienna’s heart raced. “Cait, what are you doing here? You know this place is full of journalists. What if my boss sees you? She’s obsessed about you all the time. You’re her favorite story to cover.”

Caitlin walked forward, undeterred, and set the food down on Sienna’s desk. “Relax,” she said, gently. “I didn’t come empty-handed, did I?”

Before Sienna could say another word, Caitlin closed the distance between them. Her hands found Sienna’s waist, and before Sienna could even catch her breath, Caitlin hoisted her effortlessly onto the desk.

“Caitlin-baby-” Sienna yelped, her hands grabbing Caitlin’s shoulders for balance. “Someone might walk in. Camryn could come back. Or worse-my boss-“

But Caitlin didn’t answer. She turned, walked to the office door, and-click-locked it.

Sienna’s mouth fell open. “You didn’t just lock-“

Too late. Caitlin was already back, standing between her parted thighs, her large hands finding purchase on the smooth expanse of Sienna’s legs.

Sienna’s skin lit up everywhere Caitlin touched. Her breath caught again, slower this time, heavier.

Her arms wound naturally around Caitlin’s neck, fingers brushing against the soft ends of her ponytail. “You’re ridiculous,” she murmured, a half-hearted protest already dissolving into longing.

Caitlin’s hands slid higher, fingertips just beneath the hem of Sienna’s tight pencil skirt, thumbs rubbing slow, lazy circles on the tender flesh of her inner thighs.

The moment thickened.

And then Caitlin leaned in, capturing Sienna’s lips in a kiss that was anything but rushed. It was slow, luxurious, the kind of kiss that unraveled nerves and rewrote the rules of the day. Sienna melted into it, lips parting on instinct, and Caitlin’s tongue met hers, tangled and teasing. The kiss was a quiet storm-full of affection, heat, want, and something deeper, something dangerously close to love.

Sienna moaned into Caitlin’s mouth, her hips shifting, seeking friction, desperate to close the gap between them.

Caitlin trailed kisses down her jaw, her mouth finding that sweet spot on her neck that made Sienna gasp every time. And when she sucked gently, then harder, leaving a mark that would have editors and interns whispering if they saw-Sienna could only moan her name in warning.

“Cai-Cait…”

Her head tipped back. Her fingers dug into Caitlin’s hoodie.

“I’m at work. We gotta stop… and you-” she panted, “-you still haven’t answered my questions.”

Caitlin pulled back, breathless, cheeks flushed, eyes dark with mischief and desire. She admired her handiwork-a fresh line of hickeys already forming on Sienna’s flawless neck. Her smile was downright sinful.

“You marked me, didn’t you, Clark?” Sienna groaned.

Caitlin’s grin widened. “I did, baby. And I like it that way.” She kissed her again, softer this time. “And to answer your question-I came to have lunch with you. Even in a building full of journalists who adore Caitlin Clark.”

“You’re impossible,” Sienna whispered, but her voice betrayed her. There was no anger-just awe.

Caitlin could see the hesitation in Sienna’s eyes, the flicker of fear under the affection. She touched Sienna’s face, tender now, vulnerable. “You know it’s risky, right?” Sienna said. “This thing between us. I’m a journalist. You’re… you.”

“What if my boss finds out? What will your fans think?”

Caitlin pressed her lips to Sienna’s forehead, lingering. “I don’t care if it’s risky, Sunshine. If loving you means risking it all-then it’s worth the risk.”

Sienna’s heart squeezed. Her throat tightened. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears.

She didn’t speak. She didn’t need to.

Instead, she kissed Caitlin-soft and slow, with every ounce of emotion she couldn’t say out loud. It was a kiss that said thank you, I see you, I want you, and I might already love you.

When they parted, Caitlin was smiling again, but this time it was gentler, touched with something vulnerable.

“You’re so hot when you’re soft and romantic… and wild,” Sienna murmured, teasing, her lips brushing against Caitlin’s as she spoke.

Caitlin’s smirk returned. Her hands slid higher under Sienna’s skirt, her fingers grazing the edge of her panties.

She leaned in, her voice low, sultry, and dangerous-like a secret. “And you… you look hot sitting on this desk, legs parted, skirt almost at your waist, cheeks flushed because of me. All I wanna do is fuck you on this fuckin’ desk-let the whole office hear exactly what I’m doing to you.”

Sienna’s breath caught. Her mouth parted in a silent gasp. “Tell me, baby…” Caitlin whispered. “What will I find if I slip your panties to the side?”

Sienna moaned, her back arching. “Why don’t you find out yourself, Clark…”

Caitlin’s eyes darkened.

But then, she pulled back.

Sienna blinked. “Caitlinnnn,” she whined, exasperated and turned on. “Why would you do that? You’re such a tease. Please just finish the job.”

Caitlin chuckled, shaking her head. “Not happening, Sunshine. Gotta take you on a real date first.”

“You’re cruel.”

“You love it.”

Sienna huffed, sliding off the desk and adjusting her skirt. She walked around and sat behind her desk, pulling the compact mirror from her drawer. Her lipstick was smudged, her neck a constellation of red marks. She rolled her eyes and grabbed her makeup bag-reapplying her lipstick, dabbing concealer over her neck.

The air had shifted again. Still thick with heat and tension, but lighter now-filled with something playful. Something real.

It was quiet for a beat, and then Caitlin said, softly, almost shy, “Sunshine… I mean it. I wanna take you on a date. So… will you go out with me this weekend?”

Sienna looked up from the mirror, a smile tugging at her lips despite herself. “I guess I have no choice, huh?”

Her voice turned warm, affectionate.

“Well… yes, Clark. I would love to go on a date with you.”

Caitlin’s smile could’ve lit up the entire newsroom. Her cheeks hurt from how wide it stretched. She wanted to lift Sienna up again, kiss her, yell out “I’m going on a date with Sienna Callaway!” to the whole damn building. But she couldn’t. So instead, she settled for something softer.

“Well that’s settled,” Caitlin said. “Anyway, let’s eat. I’m starving.”

Sienna nodded. “Me too.”

They sat across from each other, unwrapping the bags of food Caitlin had brought. The smell of Thai food filled the office, warm and comforting.

“I hope you like Thai,” Caitlin said, opening the container of Pad Thai.

Sienna beamed. “I love Thai.”

They talked and ate, their knees brushing under the desk. Caitlin stole bites from Sienna’s plate. Sienna complained but let her. They laughed about Camryn’s smirk, debated who made the best dumplings in town, and leaned into each other’s warmth like they were made to fit.

And somewhere in the middle of it all-between a forkful of noodles and a glance that lingered too long-Sienna found herself thinking:

Is this what love actually feels like? Being cared for. Being seen. Being known.

Her heart whispered back: Maybe it is.
