Chapter 38

Lisa swore she had faced a lot of strange situations in her life.

Concert mishaps, chaotic airport chases, even accidentally wearing mismatched shoes on stage once—nothing, absolutely nothing, could have prepared her for this.

Because right now… the world felt like jelly.

Soft. Wobbly. Slightly tilted to the left.

“…Why is the ceiling breathing?” Lisa mumbled, blinking slowly as her vision refused to stay still.

From somewhere nearby, a voice giggled.

A very familiar giggle.

“Oh my God, she’s still out of it,” Jennie whispered, barely containing her laughter as she held up her phone, camera already recording.

Lisa turned her head—too fast.

Regret.

“Woah,” she whispered dramatically, gripping the side of the dental chair. “Earthquake. I knew it.”

“No earthquake, Lili,” Jennie cooed, stepping closer. “You just got your wisdom teeth removed.”

Lisa narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

There was… a girl.

A very pretty girl.

Too pretty.

Dangerously pretty.

Standing very close.

Lisa gasped.

“Oh my God.”

Jennie bit her lip, already shaking with silent laughter.

Lisa leaned back, eyes wide in betrayal. “WHY is there a girl kissing me?!”

“I’m not even—”

“DON’T DENY IT!” Lisa pointed a shaky finger at her, nearly poking her own cheek instead. “I saw it in my soul.”

Jennie lost it.

Actually lost it.

Her laughter echoed through the recovery room as she struggled to keep the camera steady.

Lisa, however, was on a completely different emotional journey.

“I HAVE A WIFE!” she shouted, voice muffled slightly from the gauze in her mouth. “She’s very rich and very powerful and very scary!”

Jennie wheezed.

“Oh really?”

“Yes!” Lisa nodded aggressively, immediately regretting it again. “And she will—she will—” she paused, thinking very hard, “—she will make you… disappear emotionally.”

“Emotionally?” Jennie choked out.

“Yes. Painfully.” Lisa squinted at her. “Also physically, maybe. I don’t know. She’s very capable.”

Jennie leaned closer, still laughing. “What’s your wife’s name, huh?”

Lisa gasped again, clutching her chest like she’d just been asked a sacred question.

“…Jennie,” she whispered dramatically. “Kim Jennie. The love of my life. The light of my world. The owner of my credit card.”

Jennie had to turn away for a second because she literally could not breathe from laughing.

When she turned back, Lisa was glaring at her.

“YOU!” Lisa accused.

“Me?” Jennie asked, tears in her eyes.

“You need to BACK AWAY,” Lisa warned, scooting down the chair like she was trying to escape an imaginary villain. “You’re too close. Suspiciously pretty. That’s illegal.”

Jennie stepped even closer on purpose.

Lisa screamed.

“HELP! NURSE! SECURITY! ANYONE! THERE’S A WOMAN TRYING TO STEAL ME!”

A nurse peeked in, took one look at the situation, and immediately stepped back out, clearly deciding this was above her pay grade.

Jennie was now doubled over.

“I’m not stealing you,” she managed between laughs.

“Yes you ARE!” Lisa insisted. “You’re trying to seduce me with your face!”

“…My face?”

“YES. IT’S TOO EFFECTIVE.”

Jennie finally leaned in and pressed a quick kiss to Lisa’s forehead.

Lisa froze.

Completely.

Silence.

Then—

“…I’m calling my wife,” she whispered seriously.

Jennie dropped her phone for a second, laughing so hard she nearly fell off her chair.

Later that evening…

Lisa blinked awake on their couch, a blanket tucked neatly around her.

Her head felt… normal again.

Not floaty.

Not wobbly.

Just a little sore.

“…Jen?” she called softly.

“In the kitchen!” Jennie sang.

Lisa sat up slowly, frowning. “Why do I feel like I embarrassed myself today?”

Jennie appeared in the doorway, holding her phone behind her back with a very suspicious smile.

“Oh, you don’t remember?”

Lisa narrowed her eyes. “Remember what?”

Jennie walked over, sat beside her, and grinned.

“I have something to show you.”

Lisa immediately felt fear.

“…Jennie.”

“No, no, it’s okay,” Jennie said sweetly, already unlocking her phone. “You were very brave today.”

“That sounds like a lie.”

“Just watch.”

And then she hit play.

Lisa watched.

And watched.

And—

“…I said WHAT?!”

Jennie burst into laughter again as Lisa buried her face into a pillow.

“I told you you’d die early?!” Lisa groaned, voice muffled. “I CALLED YOU EMOTIONALLY DANGEROUS?!”

Jennie nodded, wiping tears from her eyes. “My personal favorite was when you said I was ‘suspiciously pretty and illegal.’”

Lisa peeked out, horrified. “…Delete it.”

“No.”

“Jennie.”

“Nope.”

“Kim Jennie.”

“I’m sending it to Rosé.”

“DON’T YOU DARE—”

Too late.

Lisa flopped back dramatically.

“My career is over,” she whispered.

Jennie leaned over, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek.

“You still love me though, right?” she teased.

Lisa squinted at her.

“…Are you the same girl from earlier?”

Jennie gasped dramatically. “Lisa!”

Lisa broke into a lazy smile, wrapping her arms around her.

“Yeah,” she murmured, pulling her closer. “You’re still illegally pretty.”

Jennie laughed softly, resting her head against Lisa’s shoulder.

“Good,” she whispered. “Because I’m your wife.”

Lisa hummed, eyes already drifting shut again.

“…Best decision I ever made.”

Jennie smiled, holding her just a little tighter—phone still safely in her hand, video very much not deleted.

And definitely saved for future blackmail.
