Chapter 39
okay, context: this girl joined a writing group for an original fantasy i’m writing, which in theory sounds fun because i get to write a sapphic fantasy love story, and people will read it and comment on it, right? WRONG!
anyways, it drove me right back into the arms of fanfics (although i have no choice but to continue that writing group cause i techincally ‘signed on’ for a year)
so here’s a short chapter but full of fluff for you guys!
honestly, you can expect a lot more fluff-ish chapters coming, because we got through the worst of the angst, although the coming out part might be just a little bit angsty, yep, we still need to walk out of the closet…
hope you guys enjoy this little fluff tho, sorry for taking so long, i’ve been insanely busy it’s crazy, and i also moved out so everything is crazy jkadf;jklafd
ANYWAYS, hope you like this!

Lockdown became more bearable when Cameron finally got to cuddle her girlfriend everyday, and although she would never admit it, she did miss Meredith, a little bit. Not a lot, because that cat was still evil at her core, and no matter how many times Taylor claimed that Meredith was the sweetest being in existence, Cameron has yet to see proof of it.
Like now, when Cameron was nestled comfortably in Taylor’s arms, flipping through her notebook as Taylor flipped through Netflix absentmindedly. It started with a poke on her stomach, and she glanced down and scowled when she met Meredith’s innocent looking eyes blinking up at her. Cameron shooed the cat away but Meredith just blinked before climbing Cameron’s body and settling comfortably on top of Cameron’s head, right in front of Taylor’s chest.
And goddamit lockdown was driving Cameron crazy because she wanted to be the one on Taylor’s chest. “Go away, this is my girlfriend.”
Taylor chuckled loudly, patting Meredith’s head as Cameron glanced up with a pout. “You can share.”
“I actually can’t,” Cameron huffed and shuffled around, trying to irritate Meredith enough that the cat would get off, but Taylor wrapped one arm tightly around Cameron, who sank into the embrace.
“Better?”
“Sure,” Cameron glared once more at Meredith for good measure before turning back to her notebook, trying to decipher her own handwriting. Sometimes she cursed herself for believing that she could plan stories on paper, because her handwriting was nowhere near good enough to plan a whole outline on paper. “What do you think of a side revenge plot with August and Betty tag team and prank James?”
Taylor paused her browsing. “A side plot of revenge is always a fun bonus. Which reminds me, I want to show you the songs I’m workshopping for the story. Sorry, Meredith, your mom needs to get up!”
“Yeah, Meredith,” Cameron stuck her tongue out at the cat, before Taylor gave her a pointed look and Cameron realized that she was also laying on top of Taylor. Which was just so unfair because she had finally gotten comfortable. “You’re so mean, you know that, right?”
“I’m sure you can find a song out there about it,” Taylor smirked, leaning down and pressing her lips to Cameron’s as she stood up and made way towards her guitar beside the television. “I know you’ve been focused more on August and Betty’s side of the story, so I thought I would pitch it with James’ perspective in all of this.”
Cameron’s eyes widened in excitement and she threw her notebook to the side as she got comfortable on the couch and watched as Taylor draped the guitar across her shoulder and sat down beside her. This was the fun part about writing a narrative with Taylor, they approached the story from different angles, Taylor in the more musical and poetic sense while Cameron attacked in from the literary and plot points.
“Okay, it’s definitely still a work in progress, but I think I’m going to call this Betty, basically it’s James singing this Betty in order to beg for her forgiveness,” Taylor glanced down at the cord, before pulling up the lyrics on her phone. Cameron listened quietly as the song continued to play, grinning and bouncing at the edge of her seat when Taylor strung the last chord and looked up expectedly at the brunette. “So?”
“I did realize that James never did apologize…”
Taylor’s eyes lit up, and she nodded. “Yep, that was intentional. You know how guys never actually apologize when they do something wrong. I mean I guess they do, but most times they don’t really say the words ‘I’m sorry’, right? So I thought this is what the song is highlighting. Although James wants Betty back, he’s still putting the blame on August for seducing him and– stop looking at me like that.”
“I’m not looking at you like anything,” Cameron pouted. “I’m just looking at you with love because you are a mastermind and a lyrical genius and I love your mind so much. And your heart, and your body, and your eyes.”
Taylor blushed, and she carefully laid the guitar back on the ground as Cameron shifted forward and pressed a kiss to her lips. She would never miss doing this, being able to kiss her best friend. To know that Taylor knows her, really knows her, and to share every aspect of her life with.
I can spend the rest of my life with her.
The thoughts sprung from nowhere, but Cameron found that the idea of spending the rest of her life with Taylor wasn’t something terrifying or heart stopping. It wasn’t weird, and there was nothing to wrap her mind around, it just felt like a natural next step. Which might be her lesbian speaking, because they had barely dated for five months, and it was definitely way too soon to talk about marriage.
Meredith’s sharp claws dragged Cameron out of her downward spirals, and she hissed at the cat on instinct, only for Meredith to growl back. “You’re on thin ice, missy.”
“And you need to stop leading Meredith on this useless feud you insisted on continuing,” Taylor dragged Cameron into her arms before the latter could do anything reckless, like throw the cat across the room (of course it wasn’t going to happen, but Cameorn won’t lie and say the thought haven’t crossed her mind once or twice). “Come on, you need to hear me play the rest of the music!”
Cameron’s eyes widened, and she turned so that she was facing the blonde. “Do you remember what happened in this town decades ago?”
“A lot of things, I’ll assume,” Taylor raised her eyebrows, and Cameron rolled her eyes.
“Well, obviously, yes a lot of things. Don’t be a smartass.”
“I thought you like that I have a smart brain,” Taylor teased, and Cameron shoved her before lacing their fingers together.
“Nooo, what happened between us! On a certain ice rink! Maybe under the release of fearless? Or was it debut. Honestly, it was one or the other, it was before I went to New York, so it had to be one or the other.” Taylor smiled fondly as Cameron continued to ramble on, before she finally gathered her thoughts. “The point being, you said something and I was wondering if you remember it!”
“You can barely remember which album was released when this happened, you want me to remember something even more specific?” Taylor gave her a pointed look, and Cameron shrugged. “Is it about my music?”
“Yep, Drew and Abigail were also brought up.”
“Are you still salty about your lack of name in my album?”
“NO! Okay, but now that you’ve brought it up, I do want to know where all these songs you claimed have my name in it,” Cameron raised her eyebrows. “Gimme, I want it. While we’re at it, I would love the ten minute version of All Too Well as well. I’m doing this for all the swifties out there, so they know that I am the President of the Taylor Swift fanclub and your very first fan.”
Taylor laced their fingers together, and Cameron smiled and squeezed. “Don’t you think you’re getting a little greedy there? I’ll show you something later, okay? It’s a little bit embarrassing.”
“It’s never embarrassing, it’s about me!”
“I think your ego needs to be knocked down a few notches. A few hours with Abigail will do you some good.” They laid comfortably in each other’s arms, and Cameron loved how easy it was, to go from best friend to lover, as if nothing changed at all. There were decades of shared memories between them, of laughter and tears and moments she won’t trade for the world.
“Don’t threaten me with a good time.” She grabbed Meredith before the traitor could snuggle up to Taylor again. Meredith didn’t protest, curling further into Cameron’s arms. “No, the thing is that we talked about writing a song together, and for the first time in decades we’re actually writing a song together! Tay tay, it took us decades. Oh my gosh, Taylor, I have known you for almost thirty years now. Taylor, we’re old!”
“You’re old, I’m young,” Taylor scoffed, and Cameron shoved her. “What? I’m speaking the truth here! And I guess life just got between us, and we never really got the chance.”
“I think sometimes life has its plan for us, and we never got together until now because we weren’t quite ready, you know?” Cameron traced stars on Taylor’s palm. “We both have our own path to walk before it brings us back together, stronger than before. I think we’re stronger than before.”
Cameron refused to meet Taylor’s eyes, the vulnerabilities of the moment not lost on either of them. “I think you made me a stronger person. I think we made each other stronger, and we built each other up instead of tearing it down, and that’s a quality in our relationships I won’t trade for the world.”
“Yeah?”
“Yep, love you to the moon and to Saturn and all of that,” Taylor muttered quietly, and Cameron paused and looked up. “Too cliche?”
“Just unique enough, actually. Just us.”
They laid in comfortable silence, the TV playing softly in the background as Cameron stroked Meredith’s fur and Taylor scrolled mindlessly through her phone. This, right now, was a moment Cameron would want to capture in a photograph and framed for all or the rest of the world to see.
