Chapter 64
The Katseye house was loud in the best way – music playing from someone’s speaker, Sophia yelling at Megan for stealing her snacks, Yoonchae and Lara arguing over a card game, and Manon humming in the kitchen while she made tea.
You were curled up on the couch beside Dani, your legs touching, her hand resting casually on your thigh. Every now and then she’d lean in and whisper something in your ear – a joke, a comment, a tease – and every time, you’d feel your stomach flip.
“Stop looking at me like that,” she murmured at one point, nudging you with her shoulder.
“Like what?” you asked, smiling.
“Like you’re planning something.”
“Maybe I am.”
She blushed instantly, which made the girls groan.
“Can you two behave for five minutes?” Sophia complained.
“No,” Dani said back, leaning her hand on your shoulder.
*
Eventually, the chaos downstairs got too loud, and Dani tugged your hand.
Come upstairs with me,” she said softly. “Just for a bit.”
You followed her into her room – the one she shared with Manon – and she closed the door behind you, leaning against it with a small, shy smile.
“You know,” she said, stepping closer, “I missed you today.”
“You saw me this morning.”
“I know,” she whispered, brushing her fingers along your jaw. “Still missed you.”
You didn’t even get a chance to reply before she kissed you.
And it wasn’t soft.
It was hungry.
Her hands slid to your waist, pulling you closer. You tangled your fingers in her hair, tugging gently, and she let out a quiet sound against your mouth that made your heart stutter.
“Dani…” you breathed.
She kissed you again, kissing until your lips tingled. Her hands slid up your sides, desperate and hungry, like she couldn’t get close enough. Your shirt was rumpled, her hair was a mess, and her lipstick was definitely no longer where it started.
“Dani,” you murmured against her mouth, “someone could walk in.”
“They won’t,” she whispered, kissing your jaw. “Manon’s downstairs.”
You laughed softly. “You’re too confident.”
She kissed you again – and that’s exactly when the door opened.
*
“Hey Dani, have you seen my-“
Manon froze.
You froze.
Dani froze on top of you.
Then:
“OH MY GOD.”
Dani practically launched herself off you, stumbling backward so fast she nearly tripped over her own shoes.
“MANON!” she squeaked, face bright red. “KNOCK!”
“I DIDN’T KNOW I NEEDED TO!” Manon yelled, covering her eyes with one hand while blindly reaching for something on her dresser with the other. “I THOUGHT YOU TWO WERE JUST TALKING!”
“We were!” Dani insisted.
You snorted. “We definitely weren’t.”
“Y/N!” Dani hissed, mortified.
Manon finally grabbed whatever she came for – a charger – and backed toward the door like she was escaping a crime scene.
“I’m leaving! I’m leaving!” she said, eyes still covered. “Please continue… actually no, don’t continue, I’m traumatised.”
The door slammed shut.
Silence.
Then you burst out laughing.
Dani groaned, burying her face in your shoulder. “I’m never showing my face again.”
You wrapped your arms around her. “She’s going to tease us forever.”
“She already does,” Dani mumbled. “This is going to make it worse.”
You kissed her cheek. “Worth it.”
She peeked up at you, still flustered, still red, still adorable. “…Yeah,” she whispered. “Worth it.”
*
The house had finally quietened down. The earlier chaos – the yelling, the teasing, the accidental walk-in – had faded into the soft hum of nighttime. Downstairs, you could hear the faint clatter of someone washing a mug, but the rest of the Katseye house was settling.
You and Dani were curled up together in her bed, the lights dimmed to a warm glow. She was lying on her back, one arm tucked behind her head, the other wrapped around your shoulders as you rested against her chest. Her fingers traced slow, absent-minded patterns on your arm.
She was still a little pink from earlier.
“You know,” you murmured, “you handled that better than I expected.”
She groaned dramatically. “Y/N, I nearly died. I’m still recovering.”
You laughed softly. “It wasn’t that bad.”
“It was the worst moment of my life,” she insisted, though she was smiling. “Manon is never going to let me forget it.”
You shifted closer, pressing a kiss to her jaw. “I’ll protect you.”
She snorted. “You? Protect me? From Manon?”
“Yes,” you said confidently. “I’ll take her down.”
Dani laughed, the sound warm and soft. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And you love it.”
She kissed the top of your head. “I really do.”
*
There was a pause. Then a knock.
A very pointed, very exaggerated knock.
Dani groaned into your shoulder. “Oh my god. She’s doing it on purpose.”
You sat up slightly. “At least she knocked this time.”
“That makes it worse.” Dani whispered.
“Come in!” you called.
The door cracked open just enough for Manon to poke her head in.
She looked at you two – tangled together, cosy, peaceful – and smirked.
“Just checking,” she said sweetly. “Didn’t wanna walk in on anything… again.”
Dani threw a pillow at her. “GET OUT.”
Manon dodged it effortlessly. “Wow. Violent. Someone’s still embarrassed.”
“I’m not embarrassed,” Dani lied immediately.
You snorted. “She absolutely is.”
Manon pointed at Dani. “Her ears are red.”
Dani slapped her hands over her ears. “STOP LOOKING AT ME.”
Manon stepped fully into the room now, leaning against the door-frame with her arms crossed. “I’m just saying… if you two are going to have a whole moment in here, maybe put a sock on the door or something.”
Dani looked horrified. “MANON.”
You burst out laughing. “She’s right.”
“No she’s not!” Dani protested. “We’re not- we weren’t- it wasn’t-“
Manon raised a brow. “You were on top of her.”
Dani covered her face with both hands. “I hate this house.”
You rubbed her back soothingly. “It’s okay, baby.”
Manon grinned. “Awwww, look at them. They’re cuddling to cope.”
Dani peeked through her fingers. “Manon, I swear-“
“Relax,” Manon said, walking over to her dresser. I’m just grabbing my water bottle. I’ll leave you two lovebirds alone.”
She rummaged for a moment, then turned back to you both with a wicked smile.
“By the way,” she said, pointing at Dani, “next time you want privacy, maybe don’t leave the door unlocked.”
Dani threw another pillow. “GET OUT!”
Manon cackled, dodged again, and slipped out the room, closing the door behind her.
*
Silence settled again.
Dani flopped back onto the bed, covering her face with a groan. “I’m actually never going to live this down.”
You curled back into her side. “Probably not.”
She peeked at you. “You’re enjoying this way too much.”
“Maybe.”
She rolled her eyes, but she was smiling – that soft, sleepy smile she only had at night.
Her hands found yours under the blanket, fingers lacing with yours.
“Stay,” she whispered.
“I’m not going anywhere.”
She kissed your forehead, her voice barely above a whisper. “Good. Because even with Manon being the worst, this is still my favourite part of the day.”
“Mine too,” you whispered.
And the two of you drifted off like that – tangled together, teased half to death, but happier than ever.
———-
Im so glad that when the girls moved out of their shared dorm, Dani and Manon moved in together.
The chaos continues lmao
