Chapter 39

The sun was merciless. It streamed through the thin curtains of Dani’s room, cutting across the bed in golden stripes. Dani groaned, burying her face in the pillow, her hair a tangled mess around her. Her oversized t-shirt was twisted from sleep, one shoulder bare, and her legs tangled in the blanket.

You stirred beside her, already awake, watching with a mix of amusement and sympathy. Dani looked wrecked – mascara smudged faintly under her eyes, lips dry, her usual grow dulled by the unmistakable weight of a hangover.

“Fuck,” Dani muttered, voice muffled against the pillow. “My head is killing me.”

You smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “Good morning to you too.”

Dani peeked at you, squinting. “Don’t be so cheerful. It’s offensive.”

You laughed, sitting up. “You did this to yourself, mami. Tequila shots, remember?”

Dani groaned louder, rolling onto her back. “Don’t remind me.” She covered her face with her hands. “God, I was such a mess last night.”

You smirked, leaning down to kiss her forehead. “You don’t say.”

Dani peeked at you again, cheeks flushing despite the hangover. “I was all over you, wasn’t I?”

You grinned. “Like glue. You wouldn’t let go. You were kissing me in the Uber, whispering nonsense in Spanish, trying to undress yourself in the hallway…”

“Stop,” Dani groaned, hiding under the blanket. “You’re making me sound like a disaster.”

“You were a disaster,” you teased, tugging the blanket down. “But a cute one.”

Dani sighed, peeking out with a sheepish smile. “I’m embarrassed.”

You kissed her quickly. “Don’t be. I liked it.”

Dani groaned again, though her smile widened. “You’re too nice to me.”

You slipped out of bed, padding across the room in your shorts and hoodie. “Stay put. I’ll get you water and medicine.”

Dani watched you go, eyes soft despite the pounding in her head. “You’re such an angel,” she called weakly.

In the kitchen, the other girls were already awake. Sophia sat at the table with a mug of coffee, scrolling on her phone. Yoonchae was making toast, humming to herself. Lara and Megan were bickering over who had stolen the last croissant, while Manon leaned against the counter, sipping tea.

“Morning,” you greeted, grabbing a glass and filling it with water.

Sophia looked up, smirking. “How’s Dani? Hungover?”

“Like hell,” you replied, grabbing the painkillers from the cupboard.

Manon chuckled. “She was ridiculous last night. I thought she was going to climb in your lap at the club.”

You laughed, shaking your head. “She practically did.”

Yoonchae grinned. “At least she’s entertaining when she’s drunk.”

“Entertaining for you,” you muttered. “I had to carry her home.”

The girls laughed, and you returned to Dani’s room with the water and some medicine. Dani was still sprawled across the bed, groaning dramatically.

“Here,” you said, sitting beside her. “Take these.”

Dani sat up slowly, wincing. “You’re too good to me.” She swallowed the pills, then drained half the glass of water. “Fuck, that helps.”

You brushed her hair back, smiling. “See? You’ll survive.”

Dani leaned against you, resting her head on your shoulder. “I don’t deserve you.”

You kissed her temple. “Maybe not. But you’ve got me anyway.”

Dani chuckled softly, curling closer. “I was so touchy last night. I couldn’t stop kissing you.”

You smirked. “You’re still touchy.”

Dani grinned, pressing a lazy kiss to your neck. “Can’t help it. You’re irresistible.”

You laughed, pushing her gently back onto the pillows. “You need rest, not flirting.”

“Flirting is my natural state,” Dani murmured, eyes half-closed.

You settled into the blankets, Dani curled against you, her hand resting on your waist. The room was quiet except for the faint sound of the girls in the kitchen. Dani’s breathing slowed, her body relaxing as the medicine began to dull the headache.

“Lazy morning?” you whispered, brushing your fingers through Dani’s hair.

“Lazy morning,” Dani agreed, eyes closed. “Just us.”

You smirked, kissing her softly. “Deal.”

You lay together, tangled in the blankets, the sunlight warming the room. Dani drifted in and out of sleep, mumbling half-coherent apologies and flirty comments. You held her close, amused and fond, the chaos of the night before fading into a quiet comfort.

At one point, Dani stirred, peeking up at you. “I was really embarrassing, wasn’t I?”

You grinned. “A little. But I liked it.”

Dani groaned, hiding her face again. “You’re too forgiving.”

You kissed her cheek. “Or maybe I just love you.”

Dani’s smile softened, her eyes closing again. “Yeah. That.”

The morning stretched on, lazy and warm, filled with soft kisses, whispered banter, and the comfort of being tangled together. The hangover lingered, but so did the affection – messy, real, and yours.
